Pictures of terminal building

When the Chinese consortium pulled out of this project, I totally lost hope that it could ever be built.
In fact, I opposed every idea of building it because judging from the mentality of the average southeast governor to do some type of low-quality project just to say they have built an "airport" and considering the paltry level of funding available to the southeast states, in relation to what will be required to build an international standard airport, I considered it a mission impossible. Yet, from what Obiano did at Agulu Lake hotel, the three Awka flyovers, multiple bridges, and completion of Onitsha mall etc, I knew there was something different about Obiano's capacity to deliver projects.

Alas! Obiano launched the airport in early 2020 and simply kept his work more or less unexposed to the media. Obiano was quoted as pleading with Alhaji Hadi Sirika to make space in his calendar to attend the test flight in April, 2021! He also told the Minister that he was at his office to seek other technical assistance, NCAA guidance and not to ask for money for the airport project! At that point, I thought this "airport" would be a tiny aerodrome of about 1.5 KM runway, with the ATC tower mounted on top of the tiny terminal building. However, two respected individuals in the aviation business; Femi Fani Kayode and Allen Onyema granted interviews where they both mentioned that the airport was indeed being built to true international quality and standard! I didn't know if I should believe them or not. However, since they went with the governor's entourage I chose to take their words with a grain of salt. They could just be trying to be "politically correct" by exaggerating what they saw.

In fact, I didn't even want to know what was going on there because I thought it would resemble the picture below of "what Obiano was expected to build". My first true expose was from two youtube videos from NedMedia and Ebo Media respectively. I was shocked that Obiano was indeed seriously building a 3.7 KM runway, had already completed a 300M by 200M tarmac, about to complete an 11 storey all-concrete- ATC tower, terminal building, ~750 car park, and many other facilities SIMULTANEOUSLY! It totally blew me away! How did he do it? More importantly, how come he didn't do a shoddy project like typical southeast governors would? Just to then turn around and claim they "saved" N1 billion naira after building a shameful airport. I was totally dumbfounded after watching those youtube videos. In fact, I got angry at my friends at Njenje Media for giving the airport somewhat bad press as though it was all a fluke and nothing was indeed happening.
[/i]

Today, Obiano has clearly written his name in gold! Not just that he fulfilled a dream of an Anambra airport planned since 1982 during President Shehu Shagari's era (Onitsha airport), followed by Gov. Ezeife's Oba airport project in the 1990s. Obiano went the extra mile to make sure he built a truly world-standard international airport that can compete with similar facilities globally. He also insisted on the appropriate state-of-the-art navigational equipment, including ILS Cat 2 and runway lighting systems! Not to mention building its own water supply systems and state-of-the-art fire station for the airport. Obiano went the extra mile of building a new dual-carriage accessway with bridges in line with the tradition of linking international airports with dual carriage main access roads. Truly, if a future Anambra governor names this airport Chief Willie Obiano International Cargo/Passenger airport, it would be a deserving "Thank you" from Anambra people for not just achieving this lifelong aspiration at the highest truly -international standard, but for the numerous other achievements that Obiano achieved as a governor. Despite the harsh economic challenges during his tenure.

One final thing is that Obiano should remember that this project was promised with an "Airport City" to drive the new Anambra economy. This Airport city would definitely help create world-class modern areas where international companies could be attracted to the state to build their own offices because the entire area is well-planned. Similar to how Abuja was able to attract businesses from Lagos simply for being a well-planned purpose-built city. Obiano's economic and physical development planning team should get together and plan how they could partner with reputable and well-resourced private real-estate companies to gradually begin a phased development of the airport city. This will definitely attract a whole lot of aviation-based companies, hospitality global hotels brands to invest within the airport city. Thus boosting revenue and creating jobs. The beauty of it all is that the state does not need to invest its own funds in building this airport city if it could work out a good MOU agreement with private real-estate investors to do it.

That was totally stupid and unfounded. I really doubt any individual with Anambra blood in him will choose not to land in Anambra Airport. Worthy of note that 2 ministers chose to land in an uncompleted Airport despite any perceived risk that would be involved. This has boosted the confidence level of the project. Truly remarkable.

The media blackout in 2020 helped to reduce unnecessary drama and for the airport delivery team to concentrate on their job.
Although criticized at the time, it was a masterstroke to prevent unscrupulous people from accessing the area to create mischief.

However, the most important thing now is for Anambra to select another technocrat like Prof. Charles Soludo to succeed Obiano. Else, Anambra could return to the dark days when common criminals and thieves simply brought the state to its knees. The fight for Anambra people now is to ensure their state does not fall into the hands of these criminals who are already plotting how to use INEC to falsify fake results and bring about the Hope Uzodinma supreme-court formula to Anambra state.

Concerning the new airport...things we’d like to see in the next couple of weeks are: the installation of the lifts and escalators in the terminal building; the installation of the lighting on the runway; landscaping of the entire premises and approach roads; the arrival of the new kickass fire-fighting trucks; wrapping up of works in the terminal building; and more!

That's very true of what we shall be expecting from the next update

As posted by craneburg

It's very heartwarming that they make effort to prevent cars from driving on the runway. Especially cars with muddy tires that leave sand deposits on the runway. I'm quite happy to see that they are protecting the runway even when it's not currently used daily. It is still clear of sand and debris.

Govt and all ifite Awka indigenes should think deeply on how to bring the menace of cultism and killings to a halt. The area is becoming deserted..soon those areas will become a graveyard. Nobody wants to live in an area where he keeps living in fear.

Yesterday’s shoot out, four persons were gunned down. Pathetic

Anambra is the only state in the southeast with a long river coastline that leads to the Atlantic ocean. The state with the most prosperous city in the east Onitsha that all other states depend on for goods. The only state in the east that earns billions everyday from trade. The state with the highest number of house of reps delegation to the national assembly in the south east. The state with the wealthiest Igbos without doubt. The state with a distinct dialect of Igbo that all other Igbos strive to speak in order to feel accepted. The state with a large international airport due soon. You can understand why some people are not happy with Anambra grin

Working For Obi Cubana’s Mum’s Burial Has Been Our Most Challenging … Unique Rentals Boss, Uche Ajator

Uche Ajator, Chief Executive Officer of Unique Rentals speaks with Uche Nworah of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) on the services provided by his Awka, Anambra state -based rental company.

About Us: Unique Rentals is an events management company. We handle premium events including decorations etc. We are based in Awka, Anambra state but our discerning clientele are based all over Nigeria. We have been in operation since the year 2000.

Our Clients: Although most of the jobs we do are for the upper segment of the society, however our bespoke services are tailored to suit different budgets. However, we won’t go as low as to undermine the quality of our work.

Working For Obi Cubana’s Mum’s Burial At Oba: It’s really a privilege and honour that Chief Obi Iyiegbu (Okpataozuora) trusted us with providing high end decoration and marquees, and other services at his mum’s burial. It is a big endorsement of our work because Okpataozuora is a man of taste and quality, he is the number 1 lifestyle guy in Nigeria. Most importantly, it is a huge endorsement for many of us based in the South East providing rental and other services. Gone are the days when our people bring companies from Lagos and other places for services that local companies can provide. With the commendation we have received for our activation in Oba for Obi Cubana’s mum’s burial, I hope we have been able to change the narrative and open the door for our people.

Your Most Challenging Job: I will say that our current project with Obi Cubana at Oba has been the most challenging. Obi Cubana’s mum’s burial has been trending for days now and will continue to trend. It’s as if the whole world is coming to Oba. All the celebrities, top government officials, business men and women etc. We needed to be on our A game as the client, Obi Cubana demanded for nothing but the best. As the pictures show, we believe that we have done our client and ourselves proud.
