Because from my findings, the igbo clans in Abia have ancestral ties with the efiks and the ibibios, the Nsukka people have theirs with the the Idoma people. the ebonyi people have their with the ogoja people of cross river, the nothern Anambras and some anioma people have theirs with the igalas, the nothern aniomas have theirs with the binis. The Ikwerres do not have any ancestral ties to any other known group, rather they dominated the lifestyle in the creeks and are responsible for introducing igbo centric cultures to my people in the creeks, when my great grandparents were talking about igbo people they were doing business with from the hinterland, they were actually talking about the Ikwerres, most riverine communities in Rivers state know the ikwerre people as Igbo people according to history. This is exactly why Nnamdi Kanu insists that every group in the South East and South south, up to southern Benue are ONE, united by origination. These days, you see people trying to separate Igbo from Ibibio (who have been there for thousand years) for example, but they don't attempt to separate Hausa from Fulani who just came in 1804. As for the topic, everybody enslaved everybody in our part of Africa and it is a shameful legacy that no intelligent African should want to identify with. Reno is only desperate for attention, and should be ignored. |

Xbobtage: Ikwerre area was one of the major melting point of Igbo-Ijaw trade led by Aros and Kalabaris. You made a point from Okrika-Kalabari point of view but in reality there is still more to it. Oha was a Southern Igbo term for all the people which was adopted in the phrase "Oha na eze" meaning the people and Kings also called "Oha nu Eze" in modern Ikwerre. If you visit towns and clans in the South Igbo area including Owerri, Ohaji and Ikwerre they have a title system known as Oha which is a bit similar to North Igbo "Ozo". In the South the traditional rulers lead with Oha as cabinet members unlike Ndi Nze or Ichie in the North. "Ihuru Oha" means 2 things which is "face of the people" or "the first of Ohas" It means when you are approaching Igboland you first meet the "face" before entering the hinterland. Ihuruoha was never a single man who gave birth to Ikwerre but collective name taken by the people. The Igbo as an ethnic group was defined by the Portuguese using language similarities and perception from neighboring groups as basis. For example in the video posted by Reno Omokri to support his claims the historian said Binis were always at war with their Igbo neighbours to the East and that Igbo neighbor is present day Ika in Delta State. 2 Likes |

Walkee: Anambra were never colonies to Bini kingdom, stop contradicting yourself. What is called Colonialism? Okay, they were colonials and couldn't even influence their language or lifestyle. Why didn't Anambra people become subjugated and called themselves Bini. Anambra influenced Bini just the same way Bini influenced them. And come to think of it, do you think of the Oba would be satisfied with just that kingdom, he'll be looking forward to expand even the whole of Africa if he had the power. So your judgement is not true :- |

I think these clown are trying to test the patience of the Igbo man. They are soon (most weren't born then) to forget that Edo was one of the territories taken by the Igbos in the Biafran war. If they are not careful such a thing could repeat itself in the foreseeable future, especially with the way the country is going. The Binis don't even make up a sizable percentage of the country's population. They are a minority. |

jimyjames: Lolz. What is the proximity of Ikwerre to Benin? How many ethnic groups are found between them. Are there any dialectical similarities between Ikwerres and Binis and Ishekiri or Urhobo or Ika or Isoko. None whatsoever. So where then lies your baseless claims. Cos if there were any interactions between Ikwerres and any of those ethnic groups, no matter how long or short, there must be some form of cultural ruboff. |

onumadu:A son comes under his father not a father under a son, Biafra came under Benin, the Benin Empire supersedes all other kingdoms, in the South of the River Niger, South of Nigeria. Nnamdi Kanu goofed, a slave must know it's place, no one is coming under biafra, we are not one in the real sense, a bit of differences, some were slaves and some were kings and Princes. 1 Like |

Do you know how insignificant your people are to Nigerian politics? If you were an Ijaw man I'd have shown more concern. The Benin Empire fell ages ago and has been plundered several times. All that's left is a bunch of mud huts in a back water village somewhere. Stop clinging to lost glory. When's the last time any Edo related topic was even mentioned on Nairaland? |

Walkee: Let me guess, Lagos was your colony in history books, be logical yourself and see and make analysis with your eye, and find the truth for yourself. Do not rely on another person's truth or discobery. If Lagos was so-called your colony, why don't they hold at least a festival in honour of your Oba or Ogiso. Lagos was only a port of trade for the Bini, and Bini didn't influence any where, if it did the Oba would have taken the whole of the west as you claim. Stop trying to fight for a presence, when you have none. The power your Oba holds is for the Ika, Urhobo, Itshekiri, etc, but none of the West or even the east, not even the South, like Akwa Ibom or Cross-River knew he ever existed until Nigeria came together. |

Walkee: Okay, okay, okay.... but was the Oba so humble that he didn't conquer the whole of that land and its resources, that's the question now, and why he didn't? Why would he conquer only Swamp Lagos at that time, there was no Lagos as we have it now. Places like Abeokuta, Oyo, Ile-Ife and the rest where there, with resources, but Oba only had Swamp Lagos. Why? |

ThickSharon123:lekki was initially called Ẹki, the esan word for market. That was where Yoruba slaves were sold. Idumagbo was initially idumuigbon the esan word for slave quatets. It was later renamed idumuagbo meaning humans quarters. The name it was called back then was Eko, the esan word for settlement. Eko is surrounded by Yoruba villages reason they were able to easily sieve into the city and populated it and subsequently "claiming" it later. |
