Who knows how many levels of competition it takes to qualify, how long does the competition last, where is it even organized?

I am just curious it's never publicized.

What sports discipline are you interested in?

Ensure you're abreast with the dates for the forthcoming national trials or competitions/ national sports festival

Then, identify yourself with the Sports ministry in your state of choice either state of origin or state of residence

A good number of athletes that make it to the Olympics have proved themselves in couple of national competitions....

Okay thanks I'm interested in 400m race actually, so I just have to contact the sports ministry
