The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has frowned at the attitude of the younger generation of not making judicious use of the library towards enhancing their knowledge.

Aregbesola said that modern education system is practically impossible without the library, stressing that most youths had never been into a library before.

The former Governor of Osun State said this in Akure, Ondo State during the inauguration of a library built in Akure Muslim College by the children of the first indigenous Chief Imam of Akure, late AbdulSalaam Alake.

A book titled ‘Imam AbdulSalaam Alake: His Life and Legacies’ was also launched in honoured of the Imam, the Minister stated that the soul of education in any part of the world is a functioning library.

Aregbesola said that “Modern education system is practically impossible without library.

Unfortunately our children don’t even know what a library is.

“Teachers only have enough time to introduce to students the subject, the actual learning will be drawn from the library resources and personal research”
“Education, both secular and religious is important to man.

Religious education helps man to develop his personality and grow in the knowledge of and build his relationship with God.

“Religion without morality will lead to disaster. Religion with morality leads to spirituality. If you are spiritual, you cannot hate any other person regardless of what they do.”

Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu disclosed that the state government had prioritized education in the state.

The daughter of the late Chief Imam, Dr. Munirat Ogunlayi, the library was built as part of efforts of the family to contribute to the development of the society Ogunlayi said “our dream is for the library to be a reference library in Ondo State if not in Nigeria.

“We’ll like to implore and work with the school and the Ministry of Education on proper management including deploying a professional Librarian to handle the proper management of the Library and instituting a system of conducting annual audit to ensure books and items are always in place.

She added that ” Accountability was a great quality of the industrious and hardworking sages we are all celebrating today they only eat from the sweats of their labor, and we look forward to the stakeholders at all levels working with us to sustain my father’s legacy when it comes to accountability.

put free wifi and free internet in libraries (with special clause to use it) and see how Nigerian youth will suddenly get interest again...lol!

with the advance in technology (mobile phone/computer/internet), the majority dont need to go into a library any longer.....so just like video rental, Library biz is outdated.

Does he mean library with outdated books? Who studies outdated books?

Currently in the developed country, they have virtual library with latest editions and free internet access. Making use of their library isn't cumbersome.

Unlike Nigeria where the virtual library is an audio one and the outdated library, a prison.

What's the need of one wasting time in the liberary when one can use his or her gadgets to source for materials online at the comfort of his/her room. There are alot of Ebooks, PDFs , textbooks on playstore etc etc, also you can register with some online libraries that you can.easily access whatever material you want and as many as you want.

This is not 50's , 60's , 70's , 80's , 90's and early 2000's, this is 2021. Things have changed and will continue to change more. Some change for bad, some change for good. But this very one is a good one.

1. Who would want to go to a library when Google is just seconds aways from giving you variety of materials to study from.

2. The younger ones are not motivated to study these days, because their elder ones that did are at home jobless or doing petty jobs. Even our president gave out a resounding earning that there are no jobs, no vacancies.

The trend is everywhere. My town's libarary is packed with books but people hardly go there to borrow books or read. Ebooks and audiobooks has replaced traditional books.

These olodo government people really have to keep up with the times, and not focus all their attention on just stealing our money...
Why go to a library, flipping through heavy books, just to get small information, when you could just google it in seconds and find hundreds of materials on that same information?

One of my plans in life is to build library around Nigeria as much as possible cus no matter how gadgets and other devices makes books accessible it can never be like going through hard copy, and there are numerous distraction while using gadget to read.
There can't be modern library other than the physical center. Many successful people have library in their houses.

Behold, old things shall pass away and become New.

Goes to show how our so called leaders see the masses. Ask him if his grandkids always use books at school and I am sure the answer would be No.
My daughter and her class mates started using IPad/Tablets and a personal computer at school when they were 3 years old, at age 7 she's already familiar with gadgets making e-learning easier during first wave of covid19.

Now tell me why most of these useless leaders who see and know all the trend in the expensive schools their families and friends attend chose to ignore and start cooking food for students instead of providing modern day educational tools to help them build their future and cope with others globally.

The days of physical books and Library will soon fade away like video cassettes and their rental stores back in the days.

I went to a building site where pop, screening and painting guys where working on. After some minutes, some corpers came in to see the owner of the building who is a king.
To my greatest surprise these pop, screeding, painting guys and even a meson man where making jest of the corpers saying what's the essence of going to school when at the end you guys will still join us to learn handwork after wasting years going to school and coming out to look for jobs without getting one. After a while, i engaged them in a chat and discovered that three of these guys are graduates.

Now tell me how can the younger generation not loose interest in education and your libery when they see these.

Why do we need to go to the library?

I can accept that there's a decline in the reading culture but why exactly should going to the library be equated with reading? (before you state the obvious, in my school library is/was a fornication center).

Google and other pdf sites are there to meet all my needs abeg.

This is my problem with the older generation, when something does not follow the 'old' ways it is not good.
