please what can you say about IT(BSc)
Any field that intersects in a way with computer science sells. The onus lies on you to develop yourself via free materials online to be at least good in data structure and algorithm if you would be interested in a technical career path down the lane. If you have people skills and do not want to code for a living, then look towards a career in IT leadership, product management, business analysis, scrum lead etc. The only drawback here is you would need to look for a way to set yourself apart from the crowd here. All the best.

Computer science is no doubt a very useful course, it permeates almost every facets of life.

Ranging from type writing ťo the complex one's of Artificial Intelligence etc. It is no doubt inevitably relevant in This planet earth

Many has divert views esp does who studied or are studying other courses in campus on its relevance.

Many opine that its no more lucrative,
Some has it that its value or even level of tutelage in Nigeria is so pitiable.

please one of my younger brothers insist on going for IT instead of CS any advice on that?

Same path, same advice, until he specializes in a specific area, he'll just be looked at as another generic graduate. In 9ja, I.T can be very wide and open to interpretation, it could be someone working at a Cafe or an engineer at MTN. Information Technology can be split into so many levels, security architect, systems admin, cloud, I.T auditor, QA and so on, let him start thinking about specialization and gaining real practical experience rather than just focuising on theories.

There is difference between a computer scientist and a road side web developer who just read Udemy course.

It's like saying we don't need civil or mechanical engineer because we have bricklayers and kamurudeen mechanics.

For you to get a job in most countries...number 1 criteria in the job advert is.

1. You must be a graduate or master degrees in computer science.

It's Nigeria where a company higher a web developer who studied agric studies and pay 70k per month.

Everything is upside down in Nigeria.

ICT permits all aspects of life, providing newer, better and quicker ways for people to interact, network, seek help, gain access to information and life. If other people can make with computer, then a computer scientist should make it bigger...
However, computer science remains a lucrative course both home and abroad.

The richest people in the world currently and in big tech companies are majorly computer scientists. It is not just lucrative but highly sought after. Where they teach it very well, it's not a course for averagely smart people. If you succeed you are good for life.

You may also learn via YouTube in addition to Uni's lectures. Then seek for hands-on-skill outlets.

Bros calm down, I know a couple of programmers abroad that didn't have a computer degree but works for FAANG (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Google). Yes a computer degree is an advantage, but it isn't a criteria for securing a job abroad.....oyibo no send CS certificate, na wetin you know be the Koko.... that's why they give you exams before you're certified to work with them.

Career wise and business wise, I don’t think there is any better course than computer science in Nigeria right now.
Tomorrow I write my last paper for my B.Sc computer science program but I already have 4 years of software development experience without the degree.
I’d love to go into research for the fun while learning blockchain and cloud computing
If you know how wide this field is ehn?
So many things to learn.
Even if you study computer science in Nigeria, follow who know road.

B.Sc in Computer Science no matter where you get your degree (University wise or Country wise) will always be lucrative. 'Will even be more and more lucrative by time unless the world decides not to use Computers again, and if you will agree with me, that's impossible. Not after we've known it's efficiency, speed, reliability and other great features and functions of the Computer System. This has already answered the major part of your question.

But, now I think there is a second part to your question. Is it still advisable to study Computer Science in Nigeria these days? And my answer is Yes. You see, sincerely our environment, I mean our nation now doesn't seem to favour not only Computer Science graduates but all graduates. So the problem is a general problem. But the great exception about Computer is that you don't really need a degree to operate a computer, so now having a degree will be an added advantage.

There are lots and lots and lots of opportunities in Computer Science as degree holder and non-degree holder, whether you are in this country or not. So if you want to study Computer Science, I will gladly advice you to go ahead, know what you really want in the study because it is a very broad and diverse discipline. And with determination, faith and prayer, you shall succeed.

Studying computer science in Nigerian universities is the biggest waste of time.

Courses are being handled by lecturers who have no clue about computers, they only teach theory without practical application.

If you are considering acquiring computer skills you better register in an online program like linda.com or teamtreehouse.com, even udemy is a good choice. In less than a year you become a pro and start earning good money and building your career.

My Advice! If you ain't sure studying the course, don't stress yourself... because your first approach to the program will determine your zeal throughout your year...and that will obviously have an effect if you gonna be successful with it...

I'm a Computer Scientist...I study that before I left Nigeria... Computer Science is not all about theory...it's basically Practical

I used to know my mates then...they all graduated with very very strong grades...but you know what? Non of them can even prove that on a PC...

If you gonna be studying in Nigeria...just forget graduating as Elon...it's not gonna work...you need to make use of online IT courses...those will help you alot...you will be giving a year or 6month for placement...pls don't use it to hustle for money....use that space to find a IT Scholl and learn programming, AI or Networking...

Finally when you graduate... prepare your mind to Run a postgrad studies abroad...

We value IT here in the states..Canada,EU want people like us to help move forward their country with digital...you can be part of that team...

God bless!!

Before you go into computer science you need to know what the course and in other to avoid heartache know that computer science is a theoretical course so don't expect to be doing a lot of practicals. Most people always get the idea of CS wrong and they later end up being disappointed

Google is also developing a new suit called Google career certificates which is intended to help young people get qualifications and skills for high paying jobs without university degree. The suits is tailored for the millennials to learn in-demand skills online in 6 months and will be globally recognized as equivalent of a traditional university degree.
The question is, in the next 15 years, will certificates be required for most jobs?

My dear, currently companies are no longer looking for certificates, they are interested in Impact. Most western Universities have scrapped out most of the courses we still offer here in Nigeria. 15 years is still in the future, it has begun already.

But more importantly, you must have the skills, else an accountant that learned the rudiments of programming from udemy will be way better than you.

Some of you might say having a degree isn't that important anymore, unfortunately that's not true. I don't have time to explain but i hope you find answers to this.

I studied computer science and I thank God I did.
