When your income is dependent on raw materials whose prices you do not control....you go broke when prices fall below replacement/sustenance (Zambia is 80% Christian, has no Hausas as far as we know...and is broke like Nigeria because they rely on copper...and the last time copper prices were high enough to sustain their economy was in 2006-11)

Plus VAT plus the recent increase and our entire earnings from crude oil, our total $30bn budget is far less than what our juniors, smaller African countries are getting from their smaller GDP. They have $70 - $150bn.
How can we then hope to put as much resources into public education, infrastructure and healthcare to the level of those smaller African countries? Even when we have bigger responsibilities and needs due to population?

This fact is irrespective of the person in power. Even if you make corruption 0%, you won't get b$100bn worth of merchandise if you enter the market with $30bn.

The $450bn GDP we declare is it not human being, Nigerians who generate the wealth? That is what every country tax and why world bank is talking of tax to GDP ratio. Our ratio is 6℅, Ghana is 16%, Egypt and South Africa is 28%, and they all have smaller GDP. But they end up with bigger revenue apart from Ghana with tiny GDP.

Even Lagos state is underperforming in tax collection when compared to African cities like Johannesburg.

But Lagos is the undisputed champion when compared to other horribly run Nigerian states that can't survive or pay salaries without federal largess. How can people own the state when an external party funds it?

Running generators is an indirect tax since the deceptions in APC promised the gullible ones power within 6 months of ascending the throne. Up until a few months ago everybody who wanted a prepaid meter had to pay through the nose to get one.

A small kiosk pays the local govt for a license to operate, it doesn't end there. The boys will come around for levy, then one day the state govt comes to bulldoze the place.
