Senator Anthony Adefuye, a Third Republic federal lawmaker and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday said attempts being made to stop Asiwaju Bola Tinubu from becoming President in 2023 will fail if God has destined him for the position.

Speaking in an interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Adefuye, a delegate to the 2014 National Conference also said Tinubu, former governor of Lagos state and APC national leader has done lot of things for Nigeria which qualifies him for the number one office in the land.

Also speaking on the controversy over zoning in the party, Adefuye said the unwritten gentleman’s agreement between the North and South must be honoured.

“In party politics, there is usually no written agreement. But there is a known agreement in APC that the North will rule for two terms of eight years, after that it will be the turn of the South. So, if Buhari had spent two terms, that is for the North, it will now come back to the South in 2023”.

“The South will also spend their two terms. That is the unwritten agreement that we all know. So, it is the turn of the South this time”.

“If God says it is Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who will be our president in 2023, by the grace of God, so shall it be. He is qualified to be President. We all know many of the wonderful things that this man has done for Nigeria. I pray that may God give him good health so that he will be our president come 2023”.

On attempts being made by some power brokers in the party to stop Tinubu, Adefuye said “Like I said, in party politics, there is usually a struggle for power. You don’t expect people to just allow you grab the power without struggling with you. So, it is normal in politics. People will struggle for power but at the end of the day, everything will settle”.
