babyfaceafrica: You are right. Prepaid Metre is helpful, more light in the area where they are. All you need is control unnecessary usage of electricity. |

loswhite: The thing is, cost reflective tariffs have not been implemented because most of you Nigerians would not want to pay it. The problem with Nigeria is that we want free of charge. The day we wake up and realize that nothing comes free in Freetown is the day we will have light 24/7. |

Beancounter94:Wrong assumption. It has been implemented and ppl are already paying it when they buy prepaid credit. The question you should ask yourself is, why is it that the distribution company has failed to give metre to customers ? Isn't that the first thing to do if you really intend to sell energy? You don't expect ppl to pay for darkness. |

loswhite: Actually it hasn't. We have several bands, and depending on your band, you pay less than others. If we really implemented cost reflective tariffs, we would be paying something around N80 per kwh. or more. At most people pay between N49-71 per kwh (see below). Right now it costs N73 to make one kwh of power. The question you should ask yourself is, why is it that the distribution company has failed to give metre to customers ? Isn't that the first thing to do if you really intend to sell energy? You don't expect ppl to pay for darkness. I am asking them the same thing...plus metering everyone won't solve the financial issues.
