Top sources in the IGP’s office told SaharaReporters that the FBI detectives were with the IGP office till he went for the Friday’s Juma’at prayers.

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, on Friday met for several hours with operatives of the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation in Abuja over the arrest warrant issued on Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.

This was sequel to the revelations made by serial fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, alias Hushpuppi, who recently pleaded guilty in the United States.

Top sources in the IGP’s office told SaharaReporters that the FBI detectives were with the IGP office till he went for the Friday’s Juma’at prayers.

They added that Kyari was given till next week to formally respond to the allegations till his extradition to the US would be decided by the police authorities.

One of the competent sources said, “The FBI detectives left when he (IGP) went for Friday Juma’at prayers. The FBI personnel were insistent and had a long meeting with the IGP till the close of work.

“Abba Kyari was given till next week to respond to allegations. The IGP agrees with them (FBI men) and assured that Kyari would not be assigned any new cases until the investigation was over.”

Another source added, “During the meeting, the FBI insisted that IG must issue a statement confirming that Abba Kyari had been indicted because of his earlier Facebook posting mocking the FBI investigation.

“Kyari later took down the post but blocked the news media outlets that were critical of him.”

SaharaReporters since Thursday started a series on Kyari exposing how Hushpuppi claimed to have offered bribes to Kyari, going by court documents that were ordered unsealed.

The United States Attorney’s Office, Central District of California, had also issued an arrest warrant against Kyari for his alleged links to Hushpuppi, who is standing trial for various offences that include internet fraud and money laundering.

Hushpuppi has since pleaded guilty to the charges and, if convicted, risks a 20-year-jail term, three-year supervision upon completion of jail term, and monetary restitution to the tune of $500,000 or more.

The court documents also outlined a dispute among members of the Hushpuppi conspiracy, which allegedly prompted him to arrange to have an individual identified as ‘co-conspirator’ Kelly Chibuzor Vincent, jailed in Nigeria by DCP Kyari.

According to the affidavit, “Kyari is a highly decorated deputy commissioner of the Nigeria Police Force who is alleged to have arranged for Vincent to be arrested and jailed at Abbas’ behest, and then sent Abbas photographs of Vincent after his arrest.

“Kyari also allegedly sent Abbas bank account details for an account into which Abbas could deposit payment for Vincent’s arrest and imprisonment.”

The Inspector-General of Police has ordered an internal review of the United States’ authorities’ allegations against Kyari.

Kyari's case is just a replica of what Nigeria Police Force is all about. Intimidation, bribery and corruption. Kudos to the rather few men of the force who perform his/her duty diligently.
He should be grounded and punished accordingly.

This is a very very grevious case. Just imagine the respect which Abba Kyari commands in the Nigerian police force. This is destroying further the battered image of this very country.

FBI is talking to Nigeria police because it's Agency and Nigeria have a partnership on helping each other squash criminals

It's government and Nigeria government have partnership on extradition treaty

If iGP and his crew don't denounce Kyari by handling him over to FBI then they have become complicit in his sin because Kyari used the police office of DCP to aide the crime

It's not by force to hand Kyari over but not handling him over means serious consequences below

(1). FBI has lost trust in it's collaboration with Nigeria antigraft agencies and would stop giving it info on the Yahoo boys it sends to them

(2). Interpol it's sister agency would loose trust in the Nigeria police commitment to it's values and stop collaboration with Nigeria which benefitted from it in getting Kanu

(3). Nigeria may be heading for a huge showdown with USA which it can't afford because of aiding one man

FBI would loose interest in dealing with Nigeria and start using Interpol to extradite.

Nigeria would claim "territorial integrity" saying Interpol can't extradite on behalf of USA without USA filing to them

USA knowing Nigeria can no longer be it's Ally in Africa for holding unto wanted criminals would melt out sanctions and cut out Nigeria from alot of it's policies, companies forcing it's allies to do same

Kyari is a highly decorated deputy commissioner of the Nigeria Police Force who is alleged to have arranged for Vincent to be arrested.

Highly decorated, dirty cop. Rotten to the core. As bad as the criminals he is supposed to be putting behind bars.

This is a defining moment for this useless government. Will Kyari be given a soft landing, there by rubbishing the FG's so-called anti-corruption fight?

They knew he would deny hence they kept quiet and finished investigations before calling him out.

I'm sure they haven't even revealed 25% of what they know about his involvement in this case and other ones.

Hushbingo might not be the only fraudster he has done dirty jobs for.
