UNILAG sef no try... As old as the university is, by now they should be using solar, wind or other sources of electricity. Why do we do research then?

The money they claimed to have paid in 17 months period is enough to run their efficient power plant that will supply stable electricity around the year.

Ah.. hahahaha.
Thank God we are no longer using the same line with them.

I remember those days we were using the same line with Unilag, it used to be 24/7 uninterrupted power supply for us then.

I hope they resolve it though.

When your students have water heaters, electric stoves, irons, electric kettles, microwave ovens, and never turn off electricity, what do you think would happen?

Besides, it's the government that increases tariff, and not the DISCOs. You'd think a university would know that.

Solution is for the electricity company to provide adequate prepaid billing for the university.

It is all systemic Fraud!
Virtually, the Fed Govt claimed Pre- paid Free Meters is lost between Discos and the System.
All the DISCOS and the Gemco don't have what they can give Nigeria, other than darkness,as they bill you for darkness! Most of bill Nigerians are paying on the Pre-paid Meters today are fake bill loaded on the unestimated past bills.
When last did you hear about the Power Minister or Education Minister or Finance Ministry,on innovations on how to move Nigeria forward!
Or when last did you hear about Ministries and their Budget Performances of their Establishments?
E Choke you, that there is no accountability anywhere again,as the leadership roles have failed Nigerians!
Very Very Shameful!

Nawa ooo, the VC sound as if, staff's in the quarters run on free light, as if people living on campus don't pay for light consumption.

Unilag staffs living on campus pay heavily for light more than people living outside the campus premises

How come you said you can't pay for what you charge your staff's so much to lights their home.

As far I know, everyone at different quarters have prepaid meter and paid for light consumed.

Nigeria nah cruise shaa

Just wow....

That is a huge indictment per management.
It seems everywhere you look all our leaders (old in age though) are always characterized with incompetence.

What's wrong with generating own electricity, using abundance gas we have in this country.

Still don't know why Nigerian didn't use gas generator

The abundant gas is free for them ?
Who will be covering for the cost of the research ?
This is a public school with little to no funding for research.

Yes sir nothing stops unilag from manufacturing their solar panels n at least take the low consumption devices off national grid. We are not saying they should establish a 50MegaWatt power generation plant. Just use scaled down processes to create alternative for the university. And this is not just unilag, universities generally, especially the 1st generation ones that have received lots of financial support over the years.

There are cheaper means of generating power for low power-consuming appliances. If they have been comfortably paying PHCN bill to the tune of 50million naira monthly, then generating power for the university through renewable means should not be sumtin they cannot afford or afford to raise money for.
