Everyone is just focused on the school generating electricity themselves, that is even by the way, I think focus should be placed on the fact that Ikeja electric and EKEDC are greedy gluttonous companies from hell, if you don't have prepaid meter their estimated billing can give somebody high BP. Imagine giving a duplex 80k for a month. For what na, is it a factory.

It is all systemic Fraud!
Virtually, the Fed Govt claimed Pre- paid Free Meters is lost between Discos and the System.
All the DISCOS and the Gemco don't have what they can give Nigeria, other than darkness,as they bill you for darkness! Most of bill Nigerians are paying on the Pre-paid Meters today are fake bill loaded on the unestimated past bills.
When last did you hear about the Power Minister or Education Minister or Finance Ministry,on innovations on how to move Nigeria forward!
Or when last did you hear about Ministries and their Budget Performances of their Establishments?
E Choke you, that there is no accountability anywhere again,as the leadership roles have failed Nigerians!
Very Very Shameful!

the landlord of a new building was told he couldn't be given prepaid meter yet that he should use estimated, not like he couldn't afford the meter, now the guy is running into debt every month as he can't Pay all what they bring. Eventually when they bring the meter, it will be loaded with debt that they made him incur in the first place, very wicked people.

The university research team needs to consider alternative sources of power as tarrifs will still be increased.

Wow just like that?
some universities are doing that already. An institution like unilag should be solving problems for the country not to talk of their own problem. Ordinary electricity there can not generate, what's the essence of their electrical department and their profs in that department. They should look for means to start generating their electricity and stop complaining. The school is there to solve problem not add to it.

undecided

You see why I have reservations about granting these federal institutions total autonomy....what is UNILAG doing with all the monies given to her by the federal government, monies raised from post graduate programs, monies from undergraduate programs, research grants and other internally generated revenues from testing, consultancies and sample analyses carried out in the institution.

Common N200mill Unilag cannot pay....it is indeed finished, if it is to be sexually harassing students you'll see them with topmost alacrity.

University of Lagos should shut up and stop playing the victim card here. They should come up with alternative means of powering their institution or monitor usage of electricity on the campus.

The mistake we often make is thinking that electricity is cheap. Electricity across the world is expensive which is why everyone is coming up with different means of generating cheaper electricity.

Deeperlife Bible Church, Gbagada, Lagos generates its own power or electricity through sewage from the houses close to the church. Its generating capacity is 35 megawatts.
So why can't Unilag generate its own power?

The money they claimed to have paid in 17 months period is enough to run their efficient power plant that will supply stable electricity around the year.

You think the management of the school is that dumb that creating power plant is that cheap and they will keep paying millions every month to a disco?

My advice is for them to find alternative means of generating their own electricity like through solar and other means or better still, some places should be connected with solar while some places should be installed with prepaid meter, in that way, the bills won't be much.

As big as UNILAG, the power company cannot bill them on estimation. There's a meter reading their consumption. They should not sound as if the bill they were talking about is estimated bill. They should go and pay otherwise continue enjoying the darkness.
