Dear All,

What do you all think can be done differently on the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.

This is just an hour stretch road.
Do they typically use multiple gun trucks on these checkpoints?

Yes Military has up to four FOBs with checkpoints on that road. These ISWAP guys strike in between the checkpoints/FOBs

Tho mostly between the checkpoints might be a 15minutes drive.

Mount check point for ever 2km to 5km or less, that was how it was done way back. I don't know why they stopped, Alot of people have been killed, kidnapped and unaccounted for on this dangerous and treacherous road.

Before it was destroying power gridlines, it's like this as stopped. They've now resulted into kidnapping, the army HQ should adapt to this terrorist tactics swiftly.

I know you would have lost alot of colleagues playing through this road cool

Sincerely many have gone unaccounted for on this route. I remember when they took over 8 University of Maiduguri students till date no news about them.

The Gridlines have remain damaged and no electricity for five months now. Once you try to fix one, they’ll blow another. Well we are now used to blackout.

This is very bad.
Honestly the military hirachy should create a special unit that would be responsible for securing those power line grids and dangerous route in the N.E.
Not just creating them they should be well equipped to respond to any situation, attacks or distress calls. Intact they should have there dedicate air unit like the Cameroonian B.I.R. Another problem we have in this country is doing stuffs the old way, there is nothing wrong if we have dedicated UAV patroling this grid lines. How can a whole city be cut off of power for months shocked

If this is the case, then it's simple. install 1 surveillance camera per km or half a kilometre, that gives you 130 or 260 cameras respectively. You'll have complete coverage of the road, but since the situation of Maiduguri is very volatile, you can expect attacks on those structures and one mi 35 will be dedicated to the road to make sure those that attack it don't go back alive. But I don't think the strategy will be sustainable since we don't have enough platform.

Those attacking the road operate from communities near the road, frequent clearance operations should reduce the frequency of attacks on the road.

Nigeria's Embattled 'Supercop', Kyari Is A Billionaire With Posh Houses In Maiduguri, Sells Cars Seized From Kidnappers – Resident Alleges
A resident of Borno state has said that Nigeria’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari who is being investigated for the extent of his connection with suspected fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, alias Hushpuppi, sells cars he seizes from kidnappers and armed robbers in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The resident in a private message to a Nigerian academic and media scholar, Farooq Kperogi also claimed Kyari has enriched himself through proceeds of corruption.

According to the anonymous resident, Kyari is not a millionaire but a billionaire, who has more than 20 properties in a posh area in his state, Borno.

Kperogi said: “Na wa o. This is what someone from Maiduguri sent to my inbox in response to my column. It is unedited and unverified but interesting nonetheless: ‘Everyone in Maiduguri knew that Kyari is extremely rich, he gives out cars, monies and sells those he seized from the kidnappers and armed robbers at some selected car stands in Maiduguri and Abuja, as at now he's building a big plaza along Gombole Road near Giwa Barracks and bought the neighbouring plaza.

‘There's sign post he stood and snapped a picture where street was name after him, that's New GRA or Bama GRA he has more 20 properties there!

‘You can independently find out from those who knows him, he has properties to his named in lagos, abuja etc, I call him super rich, he surpasses IGP Kamseleem.

‘What those kidnappers were saying is very true, I developed interest on what he's doing when I read Evans interview where he said what Abba and his team took from his house was far beyond what they declared....he's not a millionaire but billionaire.

‘He moves in convoys when in Maiduguri and brazenly go round his properties.’"

SaharaReporters had reported how Kperogi also quoted a resident of Borno saying Kyari was building a mansion on Jemina Road of Damboa, with its gate made of glass and steel.

The resident alleged that the police chief offered N70 million to a neighbour who has a house behind his mansion “so he can have his house out of the way to enable him have straight access to the main road from this mansion.”

"Good evening Prof. Just reading your post on the Abba Kyari saga. It didn't come to me as a surprise. Kyari is so super rich for the job he does. He is building a mansion on Jemina road of Damboa, that house is something else. It is the first gigantic double-gated house I'm seeing in Maiduguri, the gate is made of glass and steel.

"He wanted paying (sic) of a neighbour who has a house behind him 70 million naira so he can have his house out of the way to enable him have straight access to the main road from this mansion. And with a couple of people who have told stories implicating him, and them being shut up, it doesn't come as a surprise at all,” Kperogi quoted the Borno resident as saying.

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has recommended the immediate suspension of Kyari, who is also the Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), from the service of the Nigeria Police Force, pending the investigation of fraud allegations against him.

The IGP, in his letter to the Police Service Commission, dated 31st July, 2021, noted that the recommendation for the suspension of the officer, is in line with the internal disciplinary processes of the Force.

The United States Attorney’s Office, Central District of California, had issued an arrest warrant against Kyari for his alleged links to Hushpuppi, who is standing trial for various offences that include internet fraud and money laundering.

Hushpuppi has since pleaded guilty to the charges and, if convicted, risks a 20-year-jail term, three-year supervision upon completion of jail term and monetary restitution to the tune of $500,000 or more.

US court documents also outlined a dispute Hushpuppi had with a member of his gang, which allegedly prompted him to arrange to have an individual identified as ‘co-conspirator’ Kelly Chibuzor Vincent, jailed in Nigeria by DCP Kyari.

According to the affidavit, “Kyari is a highly decorated deputy commissioner of the Nigeria Police Force who is alleged to have arranged for Vincent to be arrested and jailed at Abbas’ behest, and then sent Abbas photographs of Vincent after his arrest.

“Kyari also allegedly sent Abbas bank account details for an account into which Abbas could deposit payment for Vincent’s arrest and imprisonment.”[/img]

Depends on your category. If you are a security personnel it’s a good night irrespective of your religion.

If you can identify yourself as a Humanitarian aid worker it will end in Ransome.

If you are a Christian with a solid background like a Pastor. They might keep you for Ransom.

If you are a Christian or even a Muslim Youth I don’t think you’ll survive it especially students.

That road no be am. Even the United Nations started using Heli from Maiduguri to Damaturu last month.

Lots of peeps have been picked up on that road that never made any headline. Just we in Borno Dey know Whatsup.

I’ve never followed that road to Damaturu, tho I’ve worked in between the road around Jakana in 2017.
We were operating a Clinic there and na those guys Dey full the clinic. We had to stop when they started carrying their weaponry to our clinic for treatment. grin
Guy, you and your peeps get serious liver for real grin grin grin. The thing that pains me most here is that even if you treat these guys because of your Hippocratic oath and other considerations and save their life, they go still kill or kidnap you if them catch you outside your post.

A question: you said students, whether Muslim or Christian are killed off. Why please? And when they were coming to your area with arms, what stops them from simply kidnapping you all for ransom, or for giving medical care in the bush to their personnel for the rest of your lives?

You did not know Nigeria was sending plane load of arms and money to Angola?. C-130s were shuttling quite frequently. Nigeria's leaders then were young officers fresh from a civil war with a pan Africanist political bent.

After Cuba, Nigeria was the hero of the liberation struggle.

There are FOBs there you say, I would simply equip these with rapid-fire 105-155mm artillery and eyes in the sky in the form of surveillance drones. These drones can be parked overhead as long as is necessary, getting relived and replaced by others once they are low on fuel. Targets once seen can be pulverized within 5 minutes or less and very quickly ISWAP or Boko Haram will learn the area is far too hot for their taste.

Risking men patrolling the area or manning checkpoints is a risky endeavor with a low payoff. Far better to restrict the ability of the enemy to move, breathe, or even take a crap in peace.

It was a trophy display by the Angolans who were fighting the behemoth of the apartheid regime at the time. Lagos because Nigeria was the major financier supporting numerous freedom fighters for independence in Southern Africa both materially with clandestine military forces and advisers and also was a political and military counterweight to apartheid and nuclear armed South Africa at the time a powerful military force in Africa. The picture is in public archives. No secret.

Patrols both regular & irregular

Quick response standby units 24/7 to reenforce incase contact reported

Ambush units deployment as per needs based on intel reports of hostiles in geographical proximity

When Afghan & Pak mujahideens were operating at their peak numbers decades ago small units disguised as mujahideens ( same dress , beards , profiency in their languages including specific dialects, same weapons , complete command of koran/hadiths , circumcision of pen*s etc ) used to be inserted into probable routes & locations inside enemy territories. They would remain incognito or approach the mujahideens befriend them , extract information , eliminate them or leave them be if required . They would remain isolated in enemy territories for upto 30 days with zero contact with HQ. Few even went in without weapons inorder to get recruited by the enemy as terrorists where they would spend months getting trained in the terrorist facilities while at the same time collect intel etc

Missions were so successful that the ops are classified till date

Something which Nigeria military could replicate if possible

Pic 1 & 2 units of soldiers disguised as Mujahideens

Pic 3 Captain Tushar Mahajan disguised as a Mujahid . KIA during a rescue op

Pic 4 Major Mohit Sharma disguised as a mujahid lived with them for 2 weeks. KIA during a rescue op

For missions be it military or civilian those who circumcise their pen*s get special monetary allowances grin ( did you know circumcision reduces sensitivity by more than 30% hence the extra allowance grin )
Very impressive.

Put quite succinctly but I'd say Cuba's involvement was more in terms of men but in terms of money, weapons, logistics and training, intelligence and diplomatic weight and support (liberation heroes traveled on Nigerian diplomatic passports and had permanent resident permits to live in Nigeria) Nigeria trumps the card. Without Nigeria Southern African countries would have taken a lot longer to be liberated from white minority rule.

Elvictor:
The aftermath of the order by a United States court to the FBI to arrest Nigerian Police Officer, DCP Abba Kyari in connection to a $1.1million fraud perpetrated by Fraudster, Abbass Ramon aka Hushpuppi, the Police Service Commission said on Saturday that It is strange that a US court could order the arrest of a non-citizen, a Nigerian citizen resident in Nigeria saying Nigeria is a sovereign nation with its laws and justice systems which should be respected.

The Commission also said it is not in possession of any report of any formal processes of Indictment or allegations against DCP Abba Kyari from either the FBI or the US court where Hushpuppi is being tried hence it cannot come up with a position on the matter.

Furthermore, the Commission called on the office of the Attorney General of the federation to intervene on the issue and guide it on what to do since the commission is the legal body empowered to discipline erring Police officers.

“We surely must be guided by our own Attorney General considering the global stance it is taking and the matter of the sovereignty of nation’s,” the commission said.

While noting that it will work in accordance with the law which established it and empowers it to carry out Disciplinary measures when it is notified officially about the matter, the commission said that a formal report must come from the appropriate quarters to the commission before anything is done.

The Commissioner in charge of Media on the board of the Police Service Commission, Mr Austin Braimoh said, “A formal report must come to the Commission from somewhere or someone. The PSC has no position on the allegations against DCP Abba Kyari for now. This is because there is no formal report before the Commission on the officer as we speak. All we hearing on this matter is from the media.

“We also heard that a United States Court either indicted or ordered his arrest. It sounds strange that a US court could order the arrest of a non-citizen, a Nigerian citizen resident in Nigeria. Nigeria is a sovereign nation with its laws and justice systems. We surely must be guided by our own attorney general.

“We have to be guided by our own justice systems and courts as well as internal investigations processes. We are not aware of any petition against the officer (DCP Abba Kyari) before the Police Service Commission. If the IGP has one, we believe that he will do justice to it and forward it to us for necessary action at the appropriate stage”.

Similarly, the PSC said it will conduct its own separate investigation into the allegation of bribe against DCP Abba Kyari by Hushpuppi

A source said the PSC’s decision to do a separate probe became necessary following suspicion that some persons within the Police force were not favourably disposed to DCP Kyari’s high profile status as a result of the many feats he has achieved in crime-busting investigations and arrests.

Recall that a statement on the IGP’s directive titled, ‘Alleged Indictment of DCP Abba Kyari: Inspector General of Police Orders A Review of the Information’, was signed by CP Frank Mba, Force Public Relations Officer.

It read, “Sequel to the receipt of allegation and indictment processes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) against one of the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, DCP Abba Kyari, the Inspector General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba has ordered an internal review of the allegations.

“The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to the pursuit of justice and the strengthening of its professional relationship with the FBI and other international partners.

“Further developments on this case will be communicated to members of the public accordingly”.

According to the source the PSC would carry out independent investigations irrespective of findings of the Police authorities on the bribe allegation against Kyari.

“Even though the IGP as the operational authority has the right to investigate any allegations against any of his officers, the final decision on punishment or discipline rests with the Police Service Commission.

“In this regard, the commission which has its own mechanisms for investigation would conduct its own probe concerning the alleged indictment before any final decision can be taken on the future of the officer.

“Yes, it is true that we will wait for the full report of the investigation and it will be treated officially by the commission in accordance with the law. The law has specific punishment for such offences if proven and they include dismissal, demotion, reduction in rank and suspension, as the case may be.

Usually, cases of alleged misdemeanour against Police officers or personnel are investigated by the Force Disciplinary Committee headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration who is the most senior DIG at Force headquarters.

However, after sitting and coming out with the findings of their investigation, the findings are sent to the PSC, whose own investigations department sits and vets, for final decision.

On many occasions, indicting conclusions reached by the Force Disciplinary Committee on Police officers conduct that recommended dismissal, demotion or suspension, have been overruled by the Police Service Commission in the past.

The United States Department of Justice had said ongoing investigations showed that Hushpuppi allegedly bribed Kyari to arrest one Kelly Chibuzo Vincent, one of his accomplices in Nigeria.

According to documents released by the United States Department of Justice on Wednesday, titled: ‘Six Indicted in International Scheme to Defraud Qatari School Founder and then Launder over $1 Million in Illicit Proceeds’, Abba Kyari was alleged to have been bribed to arrest one Kelly Chibuzor Vincent, 40, in Nigeria, who created bogus documents and arranged for the creation of a fake bank website and phone banking line to support the defrauding of a business person trying to provide $1.1m for
