You are mixing stuff up. Age of consent that I know off in developed countries mean people of similar age group.

I posted a picture of Senator Yerima who is probably close to 70years old marrying a 13 year old girl.

Do you have a data to present of how many of such cases happen in Nigeria?
That's the thing. Senator Yerima is a Muslim practising the nonsense they do. You want me to pull up links to U.S. or U.K. authorities battling child marriages in Muslim communities?
Officially, the age of consent for sex or marriage in Nigeria which is more effective in the south is 18. Even in marriage, there has to be consenting sex, right?
Some U.S. cities allow for 11, 12 and 13-year-old kids to have sex and some exploit it.

I hope he posts the rate of VVF cases in Nigeria as well. I hear the guys up north are fond of sleeping with and impregnating little girls.
Forget North. Even in South, I know of two incidents of gãngrape in secondary school and the guys were laughing about it. The girl was still greeting them like nothing happened. The threshold of rãpe in Nigeria is low. Even if a girl tells her people about a rãpe, you may see the matter settled between the families over a meeting with kolanuts and some restitution paid without police involvement.

That USA is a funny country. This kind of conversation can never make it into the National discourse in UK. Below is UK Government stance on the matter which allows everyone their freedom according to their level of tolerance. Once you take the heat out of a matter, everyone will focus on more productive yarns.
Can you imagine a person who has had that conversation with their employer then going into a toilet to rape someone?

The irony that this is what engages some when debt is north of $28.5 trillion and inflation is eating into savings and income, does not elude me. Something must divert attention from more pressing matters.

There's a trans at my local supermarket. She's so nice that the queue to be served by her is always the longest, mostly women too, and her main competition is a Hijab wearing woman right next to her.

Talking about N28.5 Trillion in debt, you wonder why Naira is becoming a tissue paper that's not fit to wipe the rear. I hope these guys jump on Buhari and these worthless Thieflicians bankrupting and mortgaging the future of the country while their children are living in obscene wealth in Dubai, Europe and America. Like I say, I've never seen a trans in male toilet before. I assume they use the female toilet with no fuss. Americans can worry over minute things.

He is one of many. A country where rape is justified if you can bribe the police and even when a rapist is charged to court, the Magistrate or Judge is on sale to the highest bidder. Look at all their political arguements about the winners of the elections that ends up in courts. The winner in courts is the money bags who can deposits money in foreign banks of the judges. I know a guy who is a friend of my Brother in Atlanta and his Uncle was a judge in Nigeria and my brother's friend used to do the dirty transactions for him from corrupt politicians and money bags in Nigeria wanting the judgement to go in their favor. What a country Nigeria is.
Of course, Yerima is one of thousands, if not millions.

Nigeria is seriously lacking in data collection, and this does not apply to rape cases alone. The same Nigeria that the Northerners would hide their kids and wives from Census workers. How would policemen even effect the arrest of rapists or abusers in the North when women are seen as sex objects by majority of the locals?

Try contacting the FRSC to collect data on accident records and see if you would get any help from them. I did once back in 2010. Maybe they would reply next year.

You are going around in circles. You don't get to choose which facts you want to accept. The U.S. and South Africa sit a top the top 5 highest rape rates.

You are more likely to be murdered in Chicago than in Port Harcourt and twice more likely to be murdered in St. Louis. These are not facts I wrote - these are facts that have been reviewed and reposted by creditable sources.

You don't get to choose facts when it suits you

Nigeria has one of the highest eclampsia rates in the world. Just because pregnant women aren't dying around me doesn't make it untrue. I can't live the reality of over 20 - 25 million women within that demography who can still get pregnant.

How can they have database. A country almost 61 years old that can't produce more that 5.000 Megawatts of electricity for 200 million people. A country where you can shoot someone dead in full glare of people and if you are loaded, nothing will happen to you. A country where 70% of the youths are jobless despite the facts that majority of them are well educated. A country that an average lifespan is 53 for males and 55 for females. A country where an average citizen earns less than $2 daily according to UNESCO. Please don't get me on Nigeria because i can go on forever. The bottomline is that the people suffering the most in Nigeria are the ones very quiet in Nigeria but they are experts when it comes to Western World.

See, Salford, I don't do emotions or sentimentality. Thankfully, none of the persons being part of this debate tonight is a female so let's shelve the emotions, shall we? Gaslighting or guilt-tripping has never worked with me.

There's a reason why for every fact which I felt might be controversial, I backed it up with evidence, even more than one per fact in some cases.

You don't get to choose what fact you believe just because it rubs you the wrong way. That's not the rational, educated way to react. You counter with facts, not sentiments.

If people in Nigeria here are anything to go by, men using women's toilets in America is of more concern in Nigeria than anything Buhari or anyone else does.

Thankfully, they are a minor few.

Let's not even go there. The discussion won't end.

As per electricity. My province generates around 5,000MW to serve 1.1 million people. Nigeria generates same 5,000MW to serve 200 million people (probably more since there is no reliable census data). Just think about that for a few seconds.

Still the 5000MW doesn't find its way to homes and industries as it should, due to the dilapidated transmission and distribution systems. Abeg this is a topic for another day.

I am shocked that anyone would even try to compare rape cases in Nigeria to that of developed countries.

It's so sad that people can't think rational comparing rape cases in Nigeria with Western countries where Rules of Laws is firmly followed unlike Nigeria where 12 year old orange hawker will be enticed with N200 and forcefully have sex with and nothing will come out of it. I saw a case on Nairaland recently where a young lady went to het boyfriend's place and he forcefully had sex with the lady and 90% of the comments were heaping abuses on the lady. Nigeria is a funny country. I hope they split the country and let each region or tribe build their own country as their pace. This Nigeria is a monumental failure as a country.

You people can be funny. Nigeria is shit we know. We talking about how shit it is will not do anything. When we could we fought, I was not involved but they fought against SARS. Today on my way home for the 1st time more than a year the police stopped my car. Their problem was tinted glass. I show them application for tinted permit and the let me go. We have problems here but we like to discuss American politics. If we like Nigerian politics trust me there are a lot we could talk about.

Make una allow us to do wetin we like. I leave in a tent and I love it. I will never live in house. All this fake talk you people make about Nigeria is burning and we talk about the US does not make sense.

You guys never say this to the failed feminist and others that drink your coolaid. Budaatum, Ibime, Tdotbluejays etc. Always talk about the United States because they love to. Let's just enjoy the talk and forget about trying to make people we disagree with worry when they are not worried smiley

No, the onus is on you to shame Nigeria by providing facts to disgrace her as that seems to be the favourite pass time here even though the target isn't necessarily Nigeria but the Nigerians on this thread who you think are too darling to debate global issues in a digitised world. I understand the game.

The onus isn't on me to make my country look bad - it's on you. Mine is to puncture holes in the Eldorado you and yours build up on the internet for reasons best known to you. My endpoint is clearcut.

I didn't start doing this today. It goes far back to debates against South Africans like PunkyV and the whole band and other nationals since as far back as 2015.

The internet is free - dig up information to shame Nigeria with regards to the issues being discussed - rape statistics, age of consent and murder rates. smiley

Most of the politicians are vaccinated. They need to encourage GQP voters to get vaccinated as well.

A Tennessee lawmaker who became badly sick with Covid has had a change of heart since his earlier views on the coronavirus pandemic, and has now begun urging people to take it seriously.

David Byrd faced an eight-month-long battle with Covid-19 that included symptoms of long Covid, making him change his stance about the pandemic in a statement shared on Friday.

Mr Byrd participated last year in an overnight retreat in Nashville with 70 Republicans from the House of Representatives at a time when the pandemic was raging through the country, yet many at the event were shown not wearing masks.

And just months before being hospitalised, Mr Byrd had joined his Republican colleagues in passing a resolution that chastised the news media, saying it “sensationalised the reporting on Covid-19 in the service of political agendas”. Mr Byrd was seen without a mask on the House floor at the time, the Nashville Tennessean reported.

He subsequently tested positive for coronavirus a week and a half later, shortly before Thanksgiving, and was admitted to hospital on 5 December when he developed pneumonia.

“For 55 days, I was in an intensive care unit on a ventilator. Although ventilators save lives, the sobering reality is that the overwhelming majority of intubated Covid-19 patients do not survive,” he said in the statement".

The 63-year-old conservative politician said he had “no memories” of the time, but added that his family “will certainly never forget it”, sharing that they had begun plans to give him a funeral.

“They were traumatised daily by the distressing updates on my status. Everything that can go wrong with Covid did,” he added.

Mr Byrd’s health declined rapidly to the point that he needed a liver transplant. He said he developed jaundice and “was later diagnosed with Covid cholangiopathy”.

“I was told I would need a liver transplant or else I would die. Again, my family prepared for the worst,” he said. Mr Byrd received a new liver on 12 June.

"It is a disease that wants to kill us. Please take it seriously. Please consider getting vaccinated. This is an issue that should not divide us.”

What a vacuous person like you do not understand is that if Nigeria shares border with America, 80% of Nigerians will be jumping the border wall too. Those countries in Latin America that their citizens are running to America are much, much better than Nigeria by all measuring scales. You don't know how bad you have it because you are not exposed to how civilized world lives. You think not drinking good portable water and not having electricity is what the rest of the world goes through. We don't have our leaders whacking us on top of our heads to follow the line. Ask Trump who tried but failed woefully and today, he's incosequential in America.

People can dress it all they want but the bottomline line is that Nigeria is a monumental failure as a country. Anyone here that can tell me three things that makes them happy about Nigeria can let me know znd teach me something new. You can put wings on an elephant and that doesn't mean the elephant will fly.
