Most of the things you wrote here is very untrue because I work in a filling station.
Please don't insult us, we goto filling stations to fill our tanks, we know your type, you push female pump attendants to meet sales targets by all means, sleep with them and dump them.
Holy ghost fire to you.

Best comment ever. Generally all of us In alimosho burn people daily. Even if they steal pure water we burn. We also live in caves and use electricity only on Christmas day. Our family members on the island or any other part apart of Lagos state are given presidential welcomes anytime they return home.
We raise them on our shoulders as we parade the streets singing uzobu eyinba eyin. They are our heroes come home.
Don't mind the goat! She has been polluting the world with news of high she is living in a high brow neighbourhood in a third world country. Read her story about how she reacted to the fuel attendant's attempt to defraud her and you will easily see she is an agbero herself who will not hesitate to lynch a thief.

I don’t believe the pump in one. No one could prove how air instead of fuel could be pumped in, even for cooking gas

@Op, you must have worked as an attendant to know about "recall", you should also note that not all pump have the recall function. i strongly disagree with the air selling tactics coz fuel pump are not design to dispense air, the meter on the pump moves at the pressure of fuel that flows through it. their is another on easy tactics attendant use to cheat customer called (gbewoo) when an attendant notice notice a vehicle approaching the pump, he / she will quickly look for bike or jerry can that wont buy much fuel like (#200-#500) the attendant will quickly sell to the bike or jerrycan without programming the pump while the car is to position and continue selling to the car without hanging the nozzle nor stop or resetting pump. you have to be very sharp, attentive and calculative to do this as not to raise suspicion buy the customer. coz you need to stop the pump at exact price the customers wants i.e #1000.00 coz anything like #1000.39 will surely raise suspicion.

I read a post from Pocohantas where an attendant wanted to defraud her.

Next time, do anything else but don't leave with the POS machine..if the attendant started screaming and labelled you a thief, the mobs would have gathered fuel and tyre ..and wouldn't let you talk.

Update: for all those asking what to do, here's a plus:

The first thing to do to prevent anything is come down before negotiating price. When you are down, they can hardly do the air trick. It only happens when you are in the car.

Secondly, avoid longer dispensers. You can also know if the meter is recalled by looking at the total fuel put in your truck on the meter (but first, observing what the attendant types will help. If you say ₦5000, and when they press it, you see sth like a very fast figure different from yours, raise alarm). More so, you cannot readily know meters that are reset; majorly all are. You just have to monitor via your purchase using a gallon first.

And not everyone is controlled by their dick like you.

Your number 3 and number 5 is misleading. It's not possible to recall last sales and start fueling again from there. It automatically starts from zero. You might have been duped before, but this one is not possible on any machine.

Number 5 is wrong as well. You can't sell air of 3k while you sell fuel of 7k to make it 10k. Selling of air mostly happen with a faulty machine or fuel in the tank about hitting the destock while the manager is unaware and the attendant quickly play tricks on the customer. You can't purposely sell air after programming or starting the machine once you have enough in the tank and your machine works good.
this is how recall works, if a customer request for #2000 and the attendant sold #2000 not quite long withing 1-10 sales, the attendant will program less than 2k fuel and press the recall button with the no of the recall sale he/she wants to use (recall + eg 2, if the attendant sold #2000 for the last 2 customer, with another button depending on the type of pump. the bottom line is that the pump will also dispense #1000 fuel while displaying #2000 on the board. how to detect this is that the attendant presses like 3 functional button on the pump simultaneously or using like 3 fingers to press the pad at once, you will also notice the price will actually jump from #1000 to #2000 on the display. this is why they employ the distraction tactics to divert ur attention.

This your explanation hard o
Most of what is written there can only be detected by an experienced person, probably someone who has worked as a fuel attendant previously.
I don't know how I want to know when air is being pumped into my car since I don't live in the tank.
A long nozzle not emptying completely makes sense, but how do I prevent that?
Cut the nozzle to get the remaining fuel?

If metre is adjusted to dispense lesser than what is obtainable, how do we know?

If an old price is recalled, will it automatically reflect on the screen?

These are simply methods used in scamming us and not solutions
The op himself does not understand. There is nothing like air pumping. It's not paying attention that makes people think air has been pumped into their tank

Therr is nothing like pumping air of any amount ...the common and best way they cheat customers is by numbers showing on the pump...they sell to customers and dont hang the fuel nozzle properly so it doesnt refresh and start from zero...they continue from what they sold the last customer qnd dip it to your tank....what you should watch out for is the beginning and end on the fuel pump
Unless the fuel pump is faulty or specially made for fraud
this type of cheating is easy when the "plate" where the bottom of the nozzle rest on the pump is faulty, the attendant will need to start and stop the pump from the control pad on the dispenser.
Re: Five Things You Should Know To Avoid Being Defrauded In A Nigerian Fuel Station by Oxtertee(m): 1:34pm On Aug 03, 2021
Do you also know that attendant also cheat the filling station buy getting fuel from the dispenser without the meter reading, they call this technique "pumping" but u cant do this if the station is powered by a generator coz if will make some crazy sound which will raise suspicion if the station manager or supervisor is around and experienced.

Some people just create a thread for creating sake, well the MODs here don't do due research and they push a lot of trash to front page.

There's nothing like filling air, fuel is not gas. When people say they filled air in their vehicle I just laugh and tell them that they bought a bad fuel that burns fast due to adulteration.

There are different types of fuel, and most people don't know this
Adulteration is the major problem...most of this fuel station go for black market fuel...That are poorly refined.

Some of those attendants are thieves jere. They do lock the pipes to reduce the flow of the fuel.. I took my keg to buy fuel of 2k at one station not too far from my place the thing no even full my keg...it was as if 1½ -2 litrs was omitted from it and i go reach another fuel station still buy with the same amount and my keg go full reach the brink.

Honesty, fuel attendants are big cheats. There's this small gallon I buy fuel for gen in. It does not cost more than 1000k (around 950 something) in filling it up. I went to buy fuel one day and after filling up, the bill came to 1,380.....This is a gallon i fill up every single day. I started arguing with the useless attendant and she was soo rude and disrespectful, yes it's just about 400 naira difference and the money was not the issue, it was the cheating and disrespect from the attendant. I never bought fuel from there again.
The rudeness and bad attitude is usually an attempt to cover up and hopefully, you leave in anger.

In such cases, what I've seen peeps who want to burst their scam do (when buying in a gallon) is return the fuel. Ask for the manager.
And make them resell in the same gallon.
