Omoluabi1stborn:At the bolded the Obolo people/Andoni people are not ijaw, why rope these people into ijaw. These people bear Ibibio Names and speak a language that sounds like a mash up of ibibio and Ikwerre, How did they become ijaw, is it because they are by the coast? Please do a proper history on your tribe, so that you do not appear uninformed! |

Afriifa:we are not ijaw QED stop quoting me again please |
| Re: Putting Straight The Ijaw Population Saga by Xbobtage: 7:53pm On Aug 08, 2021 |
Afriifa:My man, the IYC is a political Organisation, there are other tribes that are signatories too, like ndoki people, ogoni people, some ngwa clans, are there as well, etc. Being part of this umbrella does not mean the person is Ijaw, Is this thread talking about the population of all the ethnic groups who are signatories to the IYC or the population of Ijaw (Izon) people? There is a big difference between the two. I think there was an article with the Governor or Bayelsa trying to explain the difference between those two to the public. |

Afriifa:I actually love reading comments without commenting until I saw Burutu being the most populated local government area in Delta State. Sorry, the most populated local government area in Delta State is Ughelli North. This link https://www.citypopulation.de/php/nigeria-admin.php?adm1id=NGA010 will take you to the population of each local government in Delta state (by 1991 population census and 2006 population census.) The last population census in Nigeria which is 2006 population census gave the following figures for each senatorial district in Delta: 1. Delta North (Anioma, which others may call Igbo) to be 1,236,840 (of which there are some Isokos in Ukwanni LGA but should not be more than 10000. So you can deduct 10000 from the figures. 2. Delta Central (Urhobo) to be 1,570,858 (though there are some Itsekiri in Sapele Local Government but shouldn't be more than 10000. So you can deduct 10000 from the figures. 3. Delta South (Ijaw, Isoko, Itsekiri and Urhobo) I will break this one down. IJAW Bomadi - 86,016 Burutu - 207,977 IJAW N URHOBO Patani - 67,391 (Ijaw are far the majority here. Urhobo should be 17000. IJAW N ITSEKIRI Warri North - 136,149 (population of both tribes are in competition) Warri South West - 116,538 (population of both tribes are in competition) ITSEKIRI N URHOBO Warri South - 311,970 (The population of both tribes are in competition) ISOKO Isoko North - 143,559 Isoko South - 235,147 Total Population of Delta State in 2006 was 4,112,445 NOTE: It is only the Itsekiri that don't have a local government only to themselves (I mean among the popular tribes in Delta). There are unpopular tribes in Delta. I will mention 2. They are Olukumi (Yoruba Subgroup, and Illah (Azanoma) (Igala Subgroup) |

| Re: Putting Straight The Ijaw Population Saga by AlphaTaikun: 9:00am On Apr 28 |
Ebitimi44:Bump. That post ABOVE is a total fallacy! There are NO indigenous Ijaws in Lagos State. This is how some young and uneducated Ijaw irredentists fabricate FAKE history and population figures while claiming other people's ancestral homelands used as migrant fishing settlements decades later. The 1891 population census of Lagos (Lagos Island) conducted by the British Colonialists had NO single Ijaws listed. The vast majority of Ijaws living in Lagos are descendants of fishing migrants who migrated after 1914 to modern Lagos State and claim Bayelsa State as their ancestral homeland. Central Ijaw in Bayelsa State is the ancestral roots of all Ijaws who largely descendants of Ghanaian boat people and fishermen who started arriving in the Central Ijaw area a few hundred years back. Other ethnic groups such as Yorubas, Nupes, Hausa, and White folks are listed in that population census of 1891 but no single Ijaw or even Ibos are on the list done by the meticulous British Colonialists. The Ijaws are migrants from the same Bayelsa area to Ilajeland in Yorubaland whom they settled among in Ondo State and they are NOT originally indigenous to Ondo State. They are just fishing migrants. The Itsekiris, Urhobos, the Edos too are having the same problem of Ijaws claiming the lands of these ethnic groups and they have in a joint press release vowed to resist the creation of a so-called Toru Ebe State from Delta, Edo, and Ondo States. The Ijaws MUST learn to be content with what originally belongs to them and desist from IRRESPONSIBLY creating histories that they NEVER had. |
