Someone was talking about this recently. 80% of those arrested as ESN are innocent .
I hope you know what 80% is, if they have arrested a thousand 1000 ESN suspect then 800 of them are innocent people, which doesn't pan out well for your own stat, apart from the petroleum engineer which other people has the family claim to be innocent? Truth is no one can tell what another person is doing with his or her time,in secondary School you hear teachers tell parents that your kid at home is not the same kid in school. Which means people keep secrets from their closest ones. Let wait for the court to decide. Peace

HILLARY ESSIEN

Since Peoples Gazette broke the news last week that a judge in the United States had issued a warrant of arrest for Nigeria’s disgraced police officer Abba Kyari, questions have spread as to why.

You see, the U.S. accused the Nigerian deputy police commissioner of conniving with Ramon ‘Hushpuppi’ Abbas, a notorious Nigerian fraudster based in Dubai, to defraud a Qatari businessperson of $1.1 million. So Nigerians have been asking: what is the business of the U.S. in all of this, after all, neither Mr Kyari nor Hushpuppi nor even the victim was in the U.S. when the crime was allegedly committed?

Unlike in previous cases, say Obinwanne Okeke, Bidemi Rufai or Allen Onyema who committed their alleged fraud in the U.S., America’s interest in Mr Kyari’s case was not immediately apparent in court filings. Even though the indictment was lengthy and detailed in establishing connivance in wire fraud and money laundering, while making direct connections between other co-conspirators and America, The Gazette had to write the U.S. prosecutors to get clarification as to how Mr Kyari violated American law that would justify his extradition.

Here’s what we learnt.

American prosecutors, in their complaint, established a relationship between Mr Kyari and Hushpuppi. They also established that there was a relationship between Hushpuppi and two female co-conspirators in the U.S.

Motunrayo Fashola, who has a child with Hushpuppi, has been a resident of New York; while Bolatito Agbabiaka has been living in New Jersey. Both women were in charge of Wells Fargo and Capital One bank accounts used by the syndicate to defraud the Qatari businessperson.

Mr Kyari arrested and detained Chibuzo Vincent for five weeks to block him from further dissuading the Qatari businessperson not to send money to the U.S. bank accounts run by the two women for Hushpuppi.

Since it was clear in the indictment that Mr Kyari knew that holding Chibuzo was only to allow Hushpuppi to defraud the Qatari businessperson of an additional $575,000 as Hushpuppi specifically mentioned to Mr Kyari, this made Mr Kyari an accomplice in the fraud that passed through American banks.

After the Qatari businessperson, who was not identified in court filings, transferred funds into the American bank accounts, Messrs Fashola and Agbabiaka collected the money and laundered it, through purchases and wire transfers directed by Hushpuppi.

In the document, prosecutors said Mr Kyari received his share through proxies from Hushpuppi after the Qatari businessperson transferred the money to American banks for Hushpuppi’s female co-conspirators. This made American banks victim of a scheme in which Mr Kyari was a key player, thus the country’s interest.

Both count one (wire fraud) and count two (money laundering) “had ties to the United States, through both bank accounts in the U.S. and defendants located in the U.S.,” Thom Mrozek, spokesman for the United States Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles, told The Gazette in an emailed statement.

Following Mr Kyari’s suspension from the Nigeria Police Force, American prosecutors are expected to expedite their request for the disgraced officer’s extradition from Nigeria to face charges for taking part in a scheme, proceeds of which were transferred to and laundered through banks in America — where at least two co-conspirators are based.

TheTony Blair Institute for Global Change, has published a report, about last week.

And from their sources are claiming that near 2000 Nigerian armed forces personnel have been killed by Boko Haram between 2018 and 2020.

I was expecting some critical comments about this and the long term socio-economic impacts on the region and Nigeria as a whole.

With some more indepth analysis on the progress so far from a military perspective. Winning or loosing and or stalemate. But NOTHING but silence.

But we are fervently talking about an irrelevant corrupt police man in an intrinsically corruption ridden police force.

Almost every IG from inception has been stained with corruption for the past 35 years plus.

So why are we concerned, I just am puzzled what's the point. Police and armed robbers have quite a few things in common.

https://www.nairaland.com/6530896/niger-communities-negotiate-boko-haram#101248268

Bandits affiliated to Boko Haram insurgents are terrorising residents of Niger State, despite pocketing more than N20 million to maintain a ceasefire.

In April, about 65 communities signed a peace deal with the terror groups to avoid future raids. Villages in Gurmana, Manta, Bassa and Kukoki districts in Shiroro area of Niger negotiated with the terrorists after reaching an agreement to pay certain amounts of money. The helpless citizens also bought the terrorists at least six Honda motorcycles worth N500,000 to pacify them.

Before then, the terrorists had displaced over 5,000 villagers from their ancestral homes in Shiroro and Munya local councils.

FIJ understands that bandits in Shiroro have a strong affiliation with the northeast’s Boko Haram terrorists.

Abubakar Bello, the Governor of the state, had pronounced the hoisting of the Boko Haram flag in Shiroro town, admitting that the terror group had taken over many communities.

About 42 communities in Niger have fallen under the control of Boko Haram, according to Mohammed Sani Musa, the senator representing Niger East in the National Assembly.

“I can authoritatively confirm that the Boko Haram terrorists have mounted their flags in many of the villages they have captured such as Kaure, Alawa and Magami,” Musa said while speaking on the floor of the Senate.

THE TEMPORARY PEACE

In May, peace returned to communities in Shiroro and Muniya areas, as residents heaved a sigh of relief after negotiating with the terrorists.

Justifying why they had to negotiate with the armed groups, many of the residents, who are mostly farmers, told FIJ they were left with no other choice.

“There has been no major attack since they signed for a ceasefire with the terrorists,” Sani had told FIJ in May. “Residents are currently reuniting in the communities; they are now coming back from IDP camps.”

Sani had projected that the peace deal was not a lasting solution to the problem.

“Those guys are not to be trusted; they can come at any time to make fresh demands,” he said.

‘HOW CAN YOU SIGN A PEACE DEAL WITH A CRIMINAL?’

In many communities where the peace deal was signed, the terrorists often come at night to rape their wives and children. This happens almost every day in communities like Bassa and Kurebe.

“You’ll see terrorists moving around with their rifles in broad daylight,” said Yusuf Allawa, a youth leader in Lakma axis of Shiroro. “It’s now a lawless area because there is no law. The terrorists decide what happens in those areas. And the fear is that if this continues, some of our children will join them.”

Allawa noted that many times, newly recruited terrorists are the ones breaching the peace agreement. Sometimes, he said, it takes some of the community leaders to report to terrorist leaders before they stop them from doing certain things.

“Three days ago, in Bassa, three women were taken to the bush. They were released after the terrorists gang-raped them.

“How can you sign a peace deal with criminals? They are not respecting the peace pact.”

NIGERIA AIR FORCE DESTROY TERRORISTS' GUN TRUCKS AS GROUND TROOPS KILL ISWAP - BOKO HARAM FIGHTERS
Scores of Boko Haram-ISWAP terrorists have been killed , while their gun trucks were also destroyed in a well-coordinated joint operation of the air component and the ground troops in Gubio, Borno State.

at least four gun trucks belonging to the criminal elements were destroyed by airstrikes of a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) alpha jet while ground troops pursued and killed the fleeing terrorists.

The insurgents were killed on Monday after they encountered the military jet, sent to provide close-air supports to ground forces at Gubio.

Sources gathered that the ground troops at Gubio were initially confronting the invading terrorists when the NAF jet on a different mission was instructed to proceed to the Gubio axis.

“The NAF alpha jet, on sighting the Boko Haram-ISWAP fighters fleeing towards Damasak in four-gun trucks, rocketed their convoy and subsequently immobilized the occupants.

“After the aerial bombardments, some terrorists who were trying to escape on foots, were neutralised by ground troops.

“Apart from the destroyed gun trucks, items recovered from the terrorists included sophisticated guns, ammunition, fragmental jackets, jerry cans, bags of Indian hemp, sexual enhancement pills and exercise book containing Arabic text on how to make bombs.

Meanwhile, following reports of terrorists’ movements within Sambisa from Parisu through Njimiya axes, another military attack jet, which was quickly scrambled, intercepted the Boko Haram-ISWAP elements at a location and neutralized them in multiple airstrikes.

However, Sources says that the mission was successful.

The Theatre Commander, General Christopher Musa has commended the troops for the gallantry in the joint air and ground operation and charged them to remain dedicated in ensuring total annihilation of ISWAP-Boko Haram in their hideouts and enclaves.

lol they made a mistake and attacked a BIR camp. They go collect hot pepper. They sent a spy to collect information before the attack. but the spy was captured by the population and handed over to the BIRs. Iswap has had a string of successes on 2 attacks against small Cameroonian military camps.
Guess this time they would recieve something hot

It won't be a bad Idea to create Telegram Platform for this Thread, because it's easier to censor or restrict idiotic Posters like DLL that are nothing but jobless Trolls.

This Thread is created for sharing Reports, Intel basically related to African Military. It's not limited to Nigeria only, but all African Countries.

DLL has become a big Nuisance, thus embarrassing Nigerians on this Platform. He keeps spamming Pages with non-military related Updates..... for what exactly?
