OPERATION HADIN KAI: AGAIN MORE TERRORISTS SURRENDER AS TROOPS ESCALATE OPERATIONS ACROSS NE THEATRE
...Relinquish Arms and Ammunition

More Boko Haram (BHT)/ Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists are surrendering as troops of Operations HADIN KAI (OPHK), conducting Counter terrorism and counter Insurgency operations in north east Nigeria escalate ground and air offensive operations against the terrorists.

Sustained air and artillery bombardments on the enclaves of the terrorists in Sambisa forest and its environs have continued to yield positive results as 56 terrorists and their families laid down their arms abandoning the groups and their illicit course. Recently, the terrorists groups have suffered enormous set back and recorded several casualties as a result of ferocious offensives by gallant troops of OPHK. Eighteen male fighters of the terrorists groups on Wednesday 4 August 2021, came out to surrender to own troops with their arms and ammunition, along with their families including 18 adult females and 19 children from Chingori and other surrounding villages around the Sambisa forest.

The arms recovered from the surrendered terrorists include, 5 AK 47 rifles, 1 foreign AK 47 rifle with telescopic sight, 1 Fabrique Nationale rifle, 8 AK 47 rifle magazines, 1 FN rifle magazine, 1 Bandolier, 3 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition and the sum of Seven Thousand, Seven Hundred naira (#7,700.00) only.

Similarly, a Boko Haram fighter from Abuja Asamau Village in Sambisa Forest also surrendered to own troops of with his AK 47 rifle, 2 magazines, 1 Magazine holder, 1 round of 7.62mm special and the sum of Five Thousand Naira (N5,000:00)

It will be recalled that in less than 2 weeks, over 100 BHTs/ISWAP terrorists and their families have succumbed to ferocious offensive operations of Nigerian troops by laying down their arms and giving up the fight as their enclaves are being bombarded by the combined efforts of the Air component and ground troops of Operation HADIN KAI.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya has lauded the troops for their effort and charged them to remain dedicated and committed in the fight, until the terrorists are completely decimated.

One wonders why reforms are extremely difficult in Nigeria the answer is simple; past administrations, public office holders and civil servants already signed thousands of fraudulent contracts that have no time limits and are almost impossible to breach or terminate except the country is ready to forfeit her properties across the world.
One of such contract is the sunrise mambilla hydropower project in which a company walked away with $200 million doing nothing because government terminated the contract they were in no position to implement in the first instance but was fraudulently awarded to them by corrupt Nigerians. Another is the PW&C case.
The link below details how the immigration service won't be fruitful in a very long time from now. They basically use 80% of revenues generated to pay bills from fraudulent contracts that they cannot terminate without international legal issues.

The Nigerian Army yesterday said it had reinvigorated its operations and strengthened them to enable the troops take the war to the enclaves of insurgents, bandits and other criminals terrorising the country.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-Gen Faruk Yahaya, disclosed this shortly after addressing troops at the Fort Muhammadu Buhari Forward Operating Base, Daura, Katsina State.

He reiterated that the Nigerian Army would carry out its operational battles to the enemies’ enclaves both in the North-west and North-east where most of their operations were being conducted to pave the way for peace and development to thrive.

While admitting that there were challenges afflicting the war against insecurity in the country, the Army chief said with determination and the right efforts by all and sundry, “the Nigeria security challenges are surmountable.”

He said: “The essence of my visit is to reinvigorate our operations and strengthen them to ensure that the troops take the fight to the enclaves of these criminals and destroy them.

“That is what we are doing and this is what we will continue to do. For every place that I pass, that is my message. We must carry the battle to the enemies’ enclaves both here in the North-west and even in the North-east where we are conducting them.

“This is done in synergy with other services and other security agencies and indeed other stakeholders. We are all partners and together with this synergy we will achieve result, like we have seen, it has started gaining ground.

“There are challenges. Sometimes, you see them, but they are not unsurmountable. With the support we have from the President and Commander-in-Chief, and with the cooperation of other service chiefs, we will get there”.

The Army Chief called for effective inter-agency collaboration between civil-military and paramilitary organisations to checkmate the activities of the hoodlums within their respective areas of responsibilities in order to ward off insecurity.

The COAS, who also paid homage to the Emir of Daura, Dr. Umar Faruk Umar, appealed to traditional rulers to support the military and other security agencies by providing actionable intelligence to combat security challenges besetting some parts of the country.

The Chief of Army Staff explained that traditional and religious institutions had vital roles to play in the fight against insecurity in the country.

He added that giving security operatives vital and actionable information on the whereabouts and movements of insurgents, bandits and kidnappers would help the authorities in containing the situation.

He however noted that the worrisome situation in the North-West was already improving, due to steps taken by officers and men of the Nigerian Army in synergy with other security agencies.

He said: “We need more cooperation and synergy from other security agencies and relevant stakeholders, particularly traditional and religious institutions as well as community and opinion leaders to curtail or bring to the barest minimum the issue of banditry and kidnapping”.

On his part, the Emir of Katsina, Dr. Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, while in audience with the Army chief, attributed the spate of insecurity pervading the nation to the activities of informants whom he termed dangerous elements fueling banditry and kidnapping in the state.

The traditional ruler also opined that lack of credible information sharing and synergy among security personnel “are responsible” for the security challenges afflicting the country, especially the North-west region of the country.

The emir vowed to support the Nigerian Army to achieve the desired goal in its ongoing war against insecurity in the country.

The Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji of the Nigerian Air Force in a 3-day intensive military operation has launched air offensive against bandits in North West Nigeria.

NAF Spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Gabkwet revealed that in NAF’s resolve to rid the region of banditry, the air component focused on locations with high concentration of bandits such as South of Dansadau town and North of Kwiambana Forest Reserves in Zamfara State.

He specifically said that on 2 August 2021, the Nigerian Air Force surveillance platforms overhead these locations locked on armed bandits on bikes moving into Kwiambana Forest Reserves.

Gabkwet explained that diligent tracking of the bandits’ movement led the platforms to unearth extensive and well-concealed terrorists’ camps with numerous huts.

"Accordingly, using a mix of NAF Alpha Jet, MI 171 and Agusta 109 strike helicopters, bombardment of the camps commenced on the evening of 2 August 2021 in liaison with ground troops forming forces around the targeted areas of the forest.

"Through these coordinated attacks, over 78 bandits were neutralized, and their camps destroyed.

He noted that, Informants and locals in the general vicinity also confirmed an exodus of surviving bandits from the forest.

Further ISR by the air component confirmed a total abandonment of the camp by the surviving bandits.

In the meantime, the NAF 404 Force Protection Group stationed in Kaduna, on Wednesday, arrested a 48-year-old bandits’ logistics runner named, Aminu Saminu, around the Kaduna International Airport.

Gabkwet said, during interrogation, the culprit revealed that he usually disguises as a charcoal businessman to purchase food and other items for bandits at Bamba Village in Igabi Local Government Area (West of Kaduna International Airport).

"Useful information by the runner was availed to the Air Component that has engineered focus around the Kaduna International Airport environment and other areas with high bandits’ concentration", he said.

Chijioke Nwachukwu is into phone charging business with his brother at toll gate Ogere-Remo, until 25/06/21 when a certain man came to charge his phone in their shop with his servant named Ahmed. He charged him #100 to charge the Phone, collect the money and gave him tally for identification. The man left with his servant (Ahmed) who later on come back with the Tally to collect his boss phone which was given to him without delay. Later in the night, his boss came looking for the same phone which has been collected by his boy. Before you know what's happening, Chijioke was arrested with Police from Toll gate Police post Ogere-Remo. He was detained while the police shop for the boy who collected the phone from Chijioke, who is not only physically but mentally challenged as well.

They brought in the 1st suspect whom Chijioke denied being the one that collected the phone ; but as usual the police clamped him into the same detention facility with Chijioke. Chijioke kindreds and brother made frantic efforts on how to get the said Ahmed who collected his boss Phone.

As luck would have it, he was arrested through the help of some soldiers. Upon being handed over to the police, Chijioke identified him as the man whom he gave his boss phone to. His own boss upon arrival, accused him of having stolen from him before. To the suspects, Particularly Chijioke and his people, this is a simple case that he must be released without delay. But the police as usual, clamped 3 of them into one tiny cell with other inmates. All of them were detained from that 25th June to 30th June when police threatened to arraign them in court if they failed to pay for the cost of the missing phone pegged at #300, 000.00.

They took 3 of them as if they were going to court on the 29th ; only for Ahmed, the one that allegedly collected the phone from Chijioke to offer police #150, 000.00 to gain his freedom.

Having brought them back to the station, Inspector John, the IPO & Prosecutor in this case told Chijioke people to look for the balance of #150, 000.00 to pay up the phone owner. We don't have any money to pay, that's why our brother has been in detention with you, the people responded. To their greatest suprise, police released the other two suspects and brought Chijioke to the Iperu Magistrate Court for arraignment on the 30\06 /21; but such could not be since Chijioke is not in tune with the language of the Court. This handicap earned him a remand Order at the Sagamu Correctional facility till yesterday where we formally appeared on the matter Pro bono for the defence but before proceeding ; we informed the court that the Prosecutor has refused to give us the proof of evidence, even the charge sheet, submitting that it's a violation of section 36 (6) of CFRN, 1999 as Amended.

The court cautioned them in a very light tone but the inspector went ahead to inform the court that they are withdrawing MIPE /50C/2021 COP VS CHIJIOKE NWACHUKWU due to the fact that the complaint has lost interest in the case

That the complaint is on his way to come and inform the court of his intention to withdraw , necessitating the matter being stood down. When the court has exhausted all there is in the cause list, the matter was called again around 2:30pm without any complaint in sight ; only the cop to inform the court that he has given him the go ahead to withdraw the charge as laid. Thus, he applied for the withdrawal to the court. Charge strike off, Chijioke regained his liberty which has been restrained pending arraignment for the past 43 days both at the police Station & prison.

We as lawyers should do more by squeezing time out of our busy schedule, to help the less privileged who've been trapped by the lawlessness which Nigerian Police represents. We made effort on getting the required interpreter which has forestalled the proceeding.

RPG7 effective range about 300 metres beyond that wildly inaccurate and not more than 500 metres beyond that it may self destruct.

If you are landing in an airport, there should be a wide perimeter fence and security beyond 600 metres on the ground.

Helicopter can hover at 400 metres above the point of landing.

The possibility of getting hit by RPG7 is highly unlikely in all honesty.

African Special Forces Review

Covert1

There are salient points I consider studying recent Spec Ops deployment across board. Which of these have shown anything comparable in terms of combat, doctrine, operational equipments and funding to any foreign power with expertise in the field of Special Forces Operations on land, sea and air.

Generally when we look at Special Operations Forces the first thing to make them anything effective would be funding especially for training and then weapons and equipment. If we look at sub-saharan Africa and take the regional economic and political centers of power though nascent in development I'd say each have horned their own combatant specialties but have they earned their stars.

There are other active spots of CT/COIN operations like Mali, Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Burkina Faso, Somalia, Egypt and elsewhere with some decent Special Forces Operators, some small and effective while others would take years to reach the status of those being studied here. The focus here is the three rich economic powers of sub-saharan Africa and their response to existential terrorist threats.

Of the three economic centers of power all evidence points to the Nigerian Armed Forces Special Forces community and the Kenyan Special Forces to be actively engaged in CT or COIN operations. Of the two nations the Nigerians are the most engaged currently in desert warfare special forces operations and also seaborne anti-piracy operations. The Kenyans in the Horn of Africa operations. The South Africans have only now come into the game in Mozambique but we have no proof yet of any contact with the enemy.

I had anticipated more information on the South Africans however whatever sources I have shows clearly prior to now and I mean since the advent of democracy in South Africa the Special Forces community had been on the decline when compared with what obtained in the SADF. The deployments in Bangui, CAR and the DRC which did not exactly end very well both politically and in military terms showed all of these limitations some of which I clearly blame on the nigh incompetent military command hierarchy appointed based on ANC Party solidarity. There appear to be efforts to resuscitate those capabilities but again as we saw elsewhere there is not the full compliment of assets needed for a Special Forces unit to be very effective in specialized operations.

There are many things that beg the question in the current deployment especially CAS and ISR platforms. I have submitted any experienced SF operator can fire and hit bulls eye without optical scopes but even things like that are compliments you find with most SF units worldwide to make certain target acquisition. The question again would be the tactical and operational engagement in which the current units in Mozambique are to be employed: Urban Warfare, Close Quarter Combat, Recce, HVT kill or capture and or clearance operations. What is their doctrine of combat that might help explain why they deploy AKM rifles without optical sights. I haven't seen an RPG in sight though they are well armed. I don't want to believe funding is the problem as President Cyril Ramaphosa has released almost a billion Rand for this mission. The current deployment in Mozambique however seems to want to prove a point to redeem credibility.

I have always had a high regard for the Kenyan military as a professional military organization. In East Africa based on their economy they should adequately hold their own against any adversary both state and non-state actors in the region. The Kenyan military Special Forces have proven lethal and successful in the last decade and with more funding can acquire and maintain even more specialized skills.

This is not biased but clearly in my estimation the Special Forces Community spread across the three arms of Nigeria's armed forces the Army, Navy and Air Force are the best in sub-saharan Africa. A combination of factors make that possible especially the main one funding. These guys are lavished with the best equipments money can buy and they train with the best of the best. They also have under their belt the most SF experience and success and are the most active duty Special Forces Operators in combat anywhere in Africa.

The purpose of this piece is to provoke critical intelligent military thought and analysis for the good of our militaries and not for name calling or insults. Strength and honor to the warriors.
