Hello nairalanders...this issue has been bothering me , someone fill one application for me using my two name(surname and my second name)...but I have three names on all my documents..my question is what's the implication of this..hope it won't affect my application?

It will affect your application because he used your second name and not your first name.

Even if you have 3 names on all your documents, you get a pass with your first name and last name, the middle doesn't matter that much, but in this case he used your second name, so yeah that's an issue.

Go swear an affidavit in court to counter this. And if you want to take it a step further you can pay for a publication to be made to this effect with one of the national newspapers.

This actually cost someone is job offer in 2016 when we applied for Lagos state job. His documents carried three names but his application carried two. By the time he could come up with the sworn affidavit, they have already taken the job back from him.

It really isn't an issue for now as your other 2 names are on all your documents, it can be easily rectified when the time comes. Your's is far much better, can you remember the court ruling that Mohammed, Muhammed, Mohammadu is the same? Don't worry too much till that time reach.

See, you don't have any problem. If you use 3 names in any application and your certificates have 2 names that's when there would be problem. But in a situation where you apply a job with two names (surname and first name) and your certs have 3 names, you have no problem hence those two names appeared in your certs. Some online application don't even have provision for 3 names even when the programmers knew about other name.9

Don't mind those putting fear in you with their comments. Some of them are saying what they dont know. Goodluck

Abroad it doesn't mean much, as long as your other data tally. In Naija as there are limited opportunities, they make a fuss over the most trivial of issues.

It will not affect anything, once your surname and first name are correctly filled and tally with your documents. Middle name is not always necessary unless specifically stated.

Is not the number of names that you bear that determines how successful you will be...

True. I applied for something (I can't even remember anymore) where I submitted my first degree and post graduate certificates. My first degree has only my first and surname, while my post grad has my first, middle and surname. I was told to go back and swear an affidavit because both certificates belong to "two different people". Whatever I was applying for must have been unimportant because I never bothered going back, but I can imagine the stress if it was really important and I had no choice but to swear the affidavit. We tend to take these little details for granted.

There is no issue as far as I'm concerned. 2 out of 3 is very fine. That's how I have been using my names. Only 2 almost all the times, use the 3rd one which is my middle name only rarely.

Op, he is right. He said it all. I have 3 names. But I only use 2. I meant, my surname and first name. All my documents bear just those 2 names.

I only answer my middle name but it's not on my documents.

As far as two of the name correspond to what's on your documents, you have no issue.

Modified:

But you can swear an affidavit if you think it will cause any issue.

That's why I have always sticked to my 2 names to avoid these type of things. Any time I am filling any form, it is just those two names I use. I don't fill my middle name. I just answer my middle name only.

The nature of the document will determine the implication, which you didn't tell us .

the most important thing there is your surname, if your surname is the one he omitted, that's where you'll have issues

If it is academics, it is advisable you use your full names ( the 3 names )....otherwise you would need to go to court to do affidavit.

For non academics I don't think you have anything to worry about

If it is government issued ID then you need to go and change it to 3 names full...
I have similar problem, my surname was totally omitted from my neco result leaving me with my middle name and last name …the rest of my documents bear all three names …please send what should I do ??

Good evening my people.. I am having same issues too but slightly different.. Majority of my documents had just my first name and surname. My neco and my jamb, my jamb admission letter too and I was given admission with two names, along the line I did everything possible to change it, my banks, bvn, non, voters card and also school documents, when I graduated my first name middle name and last name came out in my result, I processed my Nysc registration, my green card came out with the three names too, my covid 19 form same thing and I am expecting to receive call up letter that will come out with the three names too. But I am scared if my jamb that has 2 names will not be an issue when registering into camp but I have also sworn an affidavit of inclusion of name at the High Court Benin city. Has anyone had this issue before? Will this affect me registering into the camp?

Pls my own problem is that some of my Document are having 3 names but in my Waec I opted for two names(surname and last name) of which ever since I decided to stick to two names... But the problem I'm having right now is that, I'm warming up for Nysc registration and my B.Ed is reflecting two names(surname and first name) while by BVN and National I'D has the middle name in them... Just wanna know if it won't be an issue for me??
Re: Using Two Names Instead Of Three Names by IamCookie(f): 4:19am On Aug 11, 2021
I am bothered about a certain new development with respect to names arrangements too.

I use particular names combination as my First name/middle name in my school certificates and BVN details, eg. Sodipo Bunmi Meagan but a different combination in my National ID card , birth cert. (Done three years ago) , international passport, etc. Eg. Sodipo Meagan Bunmi.

I am been told to rearrange in case... Which do i give preference to ? Is it the school certificates combination that is most important OR ID cards/ int'l passports. I don't want any issue based on its sensitive nature these days.

Kindly guide me accordingly.

Academics usually arrange theirs from surname First name and middle name. Bvn usually do same too, Nin uses surname Middle name and First name.. Wahala nor dey, just know where they are indicated and flll appropriately, the system go correct am themselves. I usually write my first name middle name and surname. Result bring me Surname first name and middle name.
