Twitter has said that it looks forward to Nigeria lifting the suspension on its services after an advanced negotiation.

The PUNCH had reported that Federal Government banned Twitter on June 5 after the microblogging site deleted a remark from the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)’s account.

Over two months after, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, the social networking site would soon be allowed to operate in Nigeria soon.

“The ban on Twitter will soon be lifted as we are getting close to reaching full agreement. We have agreed on some areas, hopefully in the next few days or weeks we will conclude,” the minister said.

Reacting, US-based Twitter confirmed it recently met with the Nigerian government to discuss the ban and how to resolve the matter.

“Our aim is to chart a path forward to the restoration of Twitter for everyone in Nigeria,” it said in a statement obtained via AFP.

“We look forward to ongoing discussions with the Nigerian government and seeing the service restored very soon.”

Twitter played a key role for activists in Nigeria, with the hashtags #BringBackOurGirls after Boko Haram kidnapped nearly 300 schoolgirls in 2014, and #EndSARS during anti-police brutality protests last year.

Nigeria had said the ban would end when Twitter submitted to local licensing, registration and conditions for working in the country.

Twitter has really shown this Junta that they are inconsequential in the scheme of things by ignoring them for long. Buhari is a misfit of a president

Twitter really feel the heat, they're now more humble towards our dear Government.
It's not easy to lose over 30m users.

Meanwhile, contrary to what is said by the Ipob Terrorist above me, TWITTER CAME BEGGING directly and indirectly.

God bless The Federal Republic of Nigeria

The government brain have been resetted by the severe financial crunch ravaging it @ present.Twitter has nothing to loose.

seunmsg:
The Federal government has nothing to lose. Twitter is losing revenue and that’s why they are willing to meet the conditions given to them by the Federal government.

Dont defend blindly.Twitter rakes in billions of dollars from many country let alone Nigeria being ruled by a tyrannt. Many Nigerians have been using VPN to access twitter so the lost of revenue accruing from tax, and sundry goes to the FG government.

Imagine that the govt have lost over "$243million in the first 51 days of the ban on Twitter in the country..."
Meanwhile the FG can't ban FB, and other social media networks. So the foolishness is on the government.

This attitude has persisted in spite of the revelations that Nigeria lost $243million in the first 51 days of the ban on Twitter in the country..."

The Federal government has nothing to lose. Twitter is losing revenue and that’s why they are willing to meet the conditions given to them by Federal government.

They will register in Nigeria as a business entity, open office in Nigeria, pay tax in Nigeria, subject their operation to NCC regulation and respect the sovereignty of Nigeria. That’s all we ask for.

No matter how you wailers try to spin this, it’s a big win for the Federal Republic of Nigeria and hopefully, other countries will learn how to curb the tyranny of big techs from Nigeria.

If U believe Twitter begged den U believe Buhari is the best President ever... Nigerians have been using Twitter with and without vpn. The govt claims Twitter must pay tax and set up office in the country before it can do business.
