The Federal government has nothing to lose. Twitter is losing revenue and that’s why they are willing to meet the conditions given to them by Federal government.

They will register in Nigeria as a business entity, open office in Nigeria, pay tax in Nigeria, subject their operation to NCC regulation and respect the sovereignty of Nigeria. That’s all we ask for.

No matter how you wailers try to spin this, it’s a big win for the Federal Republic of Nigeria and hopefully, other countries will learn how to curb the tyranny of big techs from Nigeria.

Some of you who do not run online business will just come online and be talking rubbish about who is losing revenue or not

Dont defend blindly.Twitter rakes in billions of dollars from many country let alone Nigeria being ruled by a tyrannt. Many Nigerians have been using VPN to access twitter so the lost of revenue accruing from tax, and sundry goes to the FG government.

Imagine that the govt have lost over "$243million in the first 51 days of the ban on Twitter in the country..."
Meanwhile the FG can't ban FB, and other social media networks. So the foolishness is on the government.

Have you seen their Q1 earnings? A company that made 28% increase compared to last year? You people overrate yourselves. That's an excerpt of the press release by their CFO.

"Q1 was a solid start to 2021, with total revenue of $1.04 billion up 28% year-over-year, reflecting accelerating year-over-year growth in MAP revenue and brand advertising that improved throughout the quarter,” said Ned Segal, Twitter's CFO.

Quarter 1 is January to March 2021, has Twitter been banned in Nigeria as at that time?

Why are Buhari's supporters always dumb?

Do u know how much businesses lost due to the ban?

Do u know how many potential foreign investments we've lost due to the ban?

No all that don't matter.
BTW how much revenue do u think the govt would generate from taxing twitter?

So a foreign investor wants to build a factory to supply a market of 200m and will not come because Twitter has political problems with the govt? That's dumb.

How come foreign investors are still trooping to China that has banned Twitter for many years? What of India where they are having regulatory issues or France where they are being slammed with fines?

This is inferiority complex of the highest order, Twitter seems to have more value than your citizenship. Since you don't know the value, Lebanese and indians are taking up your citizenship

Twitter is in business to protect your rights? This is a silly and dumb statement, they make money from you having free access to their site, what concerns them with your rights?

Lai Mohammed briefed the media today on how far the negotiation with Twitter has gone. He mentioned some of the conditions that Twitter has already accepted. The thread is on Nairaland front page for you to see.

In reaction to what Lai Mohammed said, Twitter confirmed the discussion and even went as far as saying they hope the suspension will be lifted soon. You can Check the OP for the story since you didn’t bother to read before jumping to attack ignorantly.

can u show me d attack u are referring? How did u arrive at ur 20% figure? Has Twitter bent to d conditions set by FG?

Twitter is nothing in the scheme of things. That company that is strugling to stay afloat. Have you checked thier numbers. Or you think it's the social media hype your fish brain is processing. They need every kobo to stay afloat.
Competition is rife.

Do you know how many online businesses that have moved to facebook and instagram. These Social media sites are already bigger than twitter and now twitter has f00lishly sacrificed is share of Naija market so that this bigger companies can snatch the fallout of users who have been frustrated from accessing twitter via vpn. They lost out again from an already lost battle.

meanwhile, When did Twitter say it has agreed to open an office in Nigeria?

Before companies decide to invest in a country, they run different parameters in a model and evaluate their results. If the results is favorable, they would consider investing.

One of those parameters is government intervention in the private sector. A disruptive intervention is seen as unfavorable. Also Investors don't like unpredictability. You cant just out of the blue decide to ban Twitter because it deleted ur post, or because political oppositions express their views on it.

It acted impulsively and irrationally. The tax reason is only an excuse, trying to save face. Prior to the ban, have they had any discussions with twitter about paying taxes?
A ban should be the last option not the first

Btw don't act like u aren't aware this administration have been doing their best to regulate our social media environment. Why are they scared of free movement of information?
