Maybe calling Henry's actions stupid was a bit harsh but Onyekuru should have done research on the club he is joining and modify his behavior accordingly.

First impressions matter a lot. To you and me dyeing your hair color is no big deal but to Olympiacos fans it might be more serious. Remember how Man U fans some seasons back gave Pogba grief for changing his hair color blue before a derby game against Man City so it's not unheard off. Henry should just make sure his football does the talking for him positively.

BascoVanVeli:

Oga u are reaching. Panathinaikos don't wear Boston Celtic jerseys to play matches the lad didn't sign up to join a gang with a dress code. Everybody knows Henry Onyekuru is flamboyant so what is the big deal. Allow the guy be jor.

That kind research. Who that one hep If he does all that and doesn't perform would he still be a fan favourite? They are paying for Henry Onyekuru so they should accept the complete package. He always colours his hair and now he wants green simple as that. Pogba scored 2 goals against city with blue hair so go figure.

True but for whatever it's worth you still respect the feelings of club supporters sometimes they can be irrational and make or mar your time at the club.

One simple misstep on the pitch they might start questioning his commitment to the club talking about his hair color and flashy lifestyle. Might sound silly but you know how some critics can be. Even though Pogba scored twice and don't think that has still exactly made him the darling of fans at old trafford.

Plus it's not the act of dyeing his hair that is the issue but choice of color. We may not be partisan like that but you know how crazy European fans can get.

Anyway this is still conjecture. Wishing Henry all the best.

I did rather we are ranked 125, and start playing good games, than be 20something, and be struggling to see games off

That's the thing, nobody has complained and nobody will because at the end of the day common sense should tell them he is a Nigerian.

Even if he paints the olympiacos logo on his head he would still have to perform at an high level.

But Rohr as the FIFA official spokesman said the Mexico game won't count. They don't realize that FIFA does not care who plays, as long as they're super eagles.

By the time Pinnick and his Homebased are done with us. We will be happy to be in the top 50 grin

You didn’t play any Madrid team in any European finals

Look at how you guys are struggling against Villareal

Have some shame, this is just a pre season friendly. Most of these players are still match rusty and a few others just returned from euro, the reason chelsea had a different lineup. Villreal will be completely outplayed and beaten to pulp by a fully fit chelsea team.

How many Villrreal players participated in euros? For Chelsea we have Werner, Havertz, Rudiger, Kante, Zouma, Christensene, James, Chilwel, Mount, Emerson and Jorgingo. Silva for Copa America. Aside Moreno which other Villarreal player participated? Or you're telling me that Chalaoba, Zouma, Alonso, CHO, Mendy, Kante, Kova, Ziyech, Havertz and Werner are our first choice 11? Villarreal took the game too serious and physical, so Chelsea just played safe. Or Tuchel will have that lineup in UCL final and remove Kante after first half? When he is not stupiddd. If you watched the match, immediately after Ziyech got injured, Chelsea dropped in momentum. Before then, Chelsea had 71% in first half with Villarreal continuously on the back foot but afterwards they just slowed down cux dem no wan injure.

Oh Wait, there's more.

Green is also the colour of Olympiakos greatest rivals, Panathinaikos. Same city.

Onyekuru was wearing a green Jersey of Boston Celtics which has the clover as its emblem.

The clover is the symbol of Panathinaikos.

Very stupid from a new player yet to kick a ball.

All the effort of the coach who tried to protect and not pressurise him by not debuting him in a heated and tense qualifier is now in vain.

For those not understanding the severity of this. This is how Greece have responded.

Fws.gr
"Oniekouros considered the day after a painful blockade to be the right time to fly to Istanbul to dye his hair green, the messages coming in are not encouraging."

Even Panathinaikoskosmos, fan page of Panathinaikos, disapproved of this:

"Trolling of the century to Olympiakos. Of course, the African did it because of Nigeria, but the connection with the eternal opponent, Panathinaikos, is inevitable. With green hair, it is bad. Of course someone will talk to him"

Biggest sports media House in GREECE, SDNA:

"What happened to Oniekourou is not simple. The newcomer revealed a root of evil that exists in Piraeus and so far has not been pointed out by anyone."

Zougla.gr
"A color that the friends of the "red and whites" do not want to see. Specifically, the 24-year-old Nigerian dyed his hair green! While wearing a Celtics jersey, something that provoked reactions from Piraeus fans. In fact, Oniekourou wrote in his Instagram post: "Everywhere is green"."

What is more annoying is that the whole of Greece knows that he rejected Olympiakos initially for Istanbul. Very unwise.

lol so Jorginho and Emerson were bench warmers at euros? Funny how it's only James and Chilwell that were on bench.. Most Chelsea players only resumed training a week ago so what are you about? Pau Torres played cause Emery took the micky mouse cup seriously. Tuchel wouldn't do such. Chelsea bench yesterday was stronger than the starting lineup, even the commentators confirmed it. Abi you wan argue?

What kinda stupid deduction is this, did the club tell you this, or you just made this up? Bros no dey find wetin no loss just because you wanna hang the young chap. Onyekuru is a product of green and white and that is the only thing his appearance over there typifies.

Ryan Babel while playing for the black eagles who are both the arc and city rivals of Galatasaray was always painting his hair orange, red and yellow and the Besiktas faithfuls never had any qualms with that, even though those colors were prominent Gala colour.

Get your facts right, mate. Ryan Babel NEVER donned a yellow or orange hair in a Besiktas shirt. NEVER. Despite this being the colour of his nation.

He only tried red, which is the away colour of Besiktas.

Onyekuru being Nigerian gives him no grounds to don a rival's colour on his head.

Secondly what do you mean by hang the young chap?

Everyone knows that I rate Onyekuru as my favourite and Super Eagles' best winger since 2018.

TheLoneCitizen:

You don't value what you have, if Belgium had given us a case to fight for the lad. We would have given him better opportunities.

I've watched games of him in national colors(which have been few) where he was unplayable, fearless and less selfish than usual. A game changer, Anderlercht capitulated after his injury. My favorite and best Eagles player by a mile.

What if he was putting on the super eagles green jersey ?

If wearing green is the problem, then Olympiakos will never have signed him, as he plays for a green nation.

And the bolded was necessary, because the coach could have used him against Ludogorets. But he protected from the pressure to perform in such a tense match.

Due to this move, reporters slaughtered the manager in his press conference for not playing Onyekuru.

He took a bullet for the player.

This is the point.

Alongside Ejuke, Onyekuru is a player I like so much, but in my opinion, this is not just silly, but plain stupid for many reasons.

1. It comes a day after a painful loss where Olympiakos lost at least €30m.
2. Panathinaikos vs Olympiacos is the most fierce rivalry/derby in Greece.
3. Everyone in Greece knows he once rejected Olympiakos, so they will perceive this as lackadaisical.
4. He is their biggest signing in years, so responsibility is expected.
5. He is yet to kick a football, so humility is expected.
6. He has drawn unnecessary attention and pressure to himself.
7. Everyone knows that glamorous hairstyles and quality don't go hand in hand. Ole Gunnar once narrated an experience when he refused to scout a player because of the player's hairstyle.

You will see the hair will be gone by Thursday when they play Slovan.

Though I don't think it's the reason, but Olympic Football is actually a FIFA competition. It is run, recognized and sanctioned by FIFA. The only difference is that teams don't play under their FA but the Sports ministry or Olympic committee. The same goes for FIBA and Basketball. I don't know why people usually think it isn't.

If you didn't notice, the referees all wore the normal FIFA badge
