It was 3 days ago, i had just come in from work when my kids aged 6,4 and 2 reminded me of my promise to take them on a stroll. You know boredom since school had closed. We then set out and before we say Jack, we had gone quite a distance.

IT was getting to 4pm when light showers started, we turned back immediately to use a cab or keke but the heavens poured it's waters. This neccessitated our taking cover inside the Catholic Church at the junction. We alongside many other ppl.
And then from nowhere, this aged man sitted on a bench with about 5 other men started shouting that I wore a pallazzor ''trouser '' into the church premises thereby desecrating it. I ignored him totally. 30 mins later, my 4 yr old had started shivering ,crying and saying he was tired of standing so I made a beeline for a vacant seat just 3 steps to my left. Then the man erupted again that ''he had warned me yet I was showcasing myself in their church''.

At this point I lost it and gave him a piece of mind. Asked him how what he was saying was more relevant than these kids I was trying to

I silently mumbled a prayer to my maker for help at that time. Fortunately, I saw an empty one but I heard the driver insisting he wasn't going anywhere.I got daunted seeing more than 50 ppl begging him .I walked up to him and just as I mentioned 'kids', he told me to go and bring them, and thereafter took us home.

The Bible asks'how can you say you love God whom you don't see when you don't love your neighbor? 'Religion is dividing and creating havoc among us. We have gone beyond what God is teaching us to frivolities. Placing Religion before humanity.

NB:This isn't a thread to bash the Catholic Church because my humble self has been a recipient of their goodness. It is an individual case and should be treated as such.

We were first born humans before choosing our religions...The love of humanity should be the foundation of all religion.
Your experience is worthy of learning from not only from the religious aspect but also the acts of being a responsible father. You stood up to protecting your kids

Broda Naija is not a place to even stroll right now! The place is littered with wild ignorant beasts in human form. Look a whole Abuja FCT dull with insecurity everywhere. See u cannot enjoy money in today naija.

Thank God for rescuing u and the kids.

At this point I lost it and gave him a piece of mind. Asked him how what he was saying was more relevant than these kids I was trying to protect from the elements? How he was religious instead of being humane and setting his priorities right. I likened him to biblical Pharisees and also reminded him of the Jesus parable of the 'who is your Neighbour'.I schooled him on how 'love for your fellow human being'is the genesis and the revelation of what the Bible teaches.

At this point hot tears were pouring from my eyes;borne out of frustration and dissapointment of how stupid/heartless, even an aged person would be in the face of religion ,fear cos it was getting to 7'0clock and not 1 cab was in sight .I made to leave with my kids angrily but ppl held me back and started reprimanding him. When the rains subsided a bit, They offered to keep watch over my kids while I went in search of a cab.It was scary cos I'm 6ft tall but the waters had gotten to my knees.

I was emotional reading this... Most Nigerians don't practice true christianity. Love should come first before judgement, that's why God first sent His only Son to die for the sinners.

The old man would have shown you and your kids enough love and comfort before reprimanding you, if at all your dress is against his doctrine

Glad you finally answered the f**lish man just as the Bible instructed.

What the Europeans and Arabs brought down to Africa as religion isn't linking us to God, rather, it's imposing human doctrines and inclinations on blacks.

If this religion takes anyone to God, Oyibo won't bring it to Africa for free.
Godliness is the way to God and can ONLY come from ardent studying and application of Scriptural principles.

He was probably the church keeper and was acting under instructions. Not trying to defend his actions though, but you should take a look back at your own actions closely:

You took refuge in your time of need at a facility that does not belong to you. The keeper (assuming) of that facility told you you were desecrating the place, what do you do? Instead of simply apologizing and sitting down, you completely ignored him. That was your own insult to him, considering his age. Just like he has no right to impose his religious beliefs on you, so also you should not try to impose yours on him. You were the one that wore trousers into his church, he didn't meet you on the street or come to your church to tell you not to wear what you wore.

You had another chance to correct your own faults by a simple "I'm sorry sir, we'll soon leave as soon as the rain stops" (or something else in that line) but this time around you chose to lash out at the poor man. That fact that everyone supported you does not mean you yourself did the right thing, the truth is not always subject to popular opinion.

No he wasn't as I verified later just a worshipper .Are you saying that even if he was that it'd be right to turn us away ?The security team saw me,they are charged with the responsibility. they knew the proper thing at that time was to secure my children .

FYI, I apologized when I got closer but he was having none of it.

You seem to be his kind, I'm not surprised.
