Many churches don't preach restitution deeply. But before I continue, restitution is making right your wrong, mostly to humans you offended. After we have repented of our sins, if we see those whom we offended, defrauded, we can go and make peace with them.

If you stole from a neighbour or defrauded someone, should you apologize to them after repentance or should you just accept Jesus and move on without confessing it to them? If a wife or husband has been committing adultery, if they repent, is there any need to tell their partners?

Restitution is a hard-saying, so tell us your view about it.

Is it not good that an evil is corrected and amendments made to rectify a wrong?

Okay, let's say you have a friend who wouldn't allow her husband make love or have s.ex with her. You and her husband works in the same company and this brings about some closeness between you and that man. He told you of how your friend had been starving him with love making or s.ex.

Later on, (one thing led to another) you and the man started going to hotels to fulfill what his wife wouldn't give to him.

After some months, you rededicated your life to Christ and stop the shit with that man.

Would you go and meet that woman to tell her what happened between you and her husband (all in the name of restitution)?

Will you tell your own husband this?

It not only should but must be practiced. The omission is why the church doesn't have effect on the society and producing evil rather than good people.

Restitution is compulsory.
It is an evidence to the people who knew you in your old life that you're a changed person.
Restitution brings peace between you and your offenders.

Restitution is a proof of genuine repentance..

Well, such won't be your portion.

It's a true life issue/story.

The said lady is the choir mistress of a church in Lagos, she had 2 kids with her husband before they separated.

The said man is also a deacon in a church not far from that lady's house.

They are both working in a ..... Company in Lagos. Though before she started going out with that married deacon she'd had flings with at least 3 guys ...

You don't know what you're talking about. Joseph of Arimathea was one of the disciples of Jesus and he was a very rich man. It was he who lent his own prepared tomb for Jesus to be laid in until His resurrection. Both the poor and the rich have always been part of the Christian Church from the very beginning.

I had this friend in higher institution days, Ameh, we all contribute to eat but, Ameh brings fowl and slaughters it as his contribution and we all eat it. Little did we know he steals the fowl.

10years after we left school and served, many of us got employed and are happily married with kids, Ameh remained unemployed, he was married without kids for years until according to him, he went for deliverance and a prophet told him he was under a spell from an old widow he stole from on his days of ignorance.

Ameh confessed, he went back to our school in search of the owners of the fowls he stole, the widow was late but he met her family member, who received him and accepted his restitution im cash. Months afterwards, Ameh got a great job that pays well, they now have two kids.

Lessons I learnt: Its not everything that requires prayers, some need sincere restitution or its attempt. There are many born again living in deep poverty, they would make heaven but suffer on earth except they make restitution like Zaccheus.

1. Jesus Christ said He had come to the sinners, and not the righteous(good/just), to God. undecided
Joseph of Arimathea, was listed as a good man(righteous) man , already made righteous through His following of the Old Covenant, and who also wanted a part in the Kingdom of God that Jesus Christ came with.
And behold, there was a man named Joseph, a council member, and he was a good man and a just.

51 (The same had not consented to their counsel and deed.) He was of Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who himself also waited for the Kingdom of God.- Luke 23 vs 50 - 51

Joseph of Arimathea, was righteous in the sight of God - this by Old Covenant standards, the very same righteousness Jesus Christ came to fulfill the Old Covenant Laws in order to attain, and the same kind
that He, Jesus Christ, imputed after His death, to all the sinners(lost sheep of Israel) that He was sent to redeem from the Old Covenant unto the New Covenant. undecided

2. Jesus Christ made it clear to all those who will become His followers, through parables - Matthew 13 vs 44 - 46 and through teaching- Matthew 19 vs 16 - 30. He even declared that in Luke 14 vs 26, among other parts of the Gospels, that If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.. undecided

You can repent of most sins by making restitution, but you can't bring a dead body back to life, and you can't restore your virginity.
Restitution costs: "He shall restore it in full, and shall add a fifth to it." Restitution costs full plus extra twenty percent according to Leviticus. Good luck with your restitution attempts.
Restitution is for those of the Old Covenant Law of Moses, those who have the blood of Jacob coursing through their veins ..Ezekiel 33 vs 10 - 20

Is it in the Bible as a requirement? The only example I can recall from the Bible is Zacchaeus who offered to do it willingly. If it's not a biblical teaching or requirement then there's no need to turn it into a doctrine.
What Jesus always said was "Go and sin no more." He never ever referred to the past again.
Zaccheus was not a follower of Jesus Christ but an Old Covenant Law of Moses, who made the decision after his meeting with Jesus Christ to obey the Word of God as written of in Ezekiel 33 vs 10 - 20. undecided

Correction , Jesus Christ didn't die for your sins but for the sins of those formerly under the Old Covenant, the Lost sheep of Israel, who He was sent to ransom from the Old Law so you can have a part in the New Covenant Law and the Kingdom of God. undecided

Restitution was of the Old Covenant Law, a way of obtaining God's Righteousness for those who are born with the blood of Jacob coursing through their veins - Ezekiel 33 vs 10 - 20. undecided

There is nothing confusing in the Bible about what to do as one who pretends to believe in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ made it clear that that who love Him are those who trust and obey His teachings and commandments, as He is God's New Covenant Law in the Kingdom of God, the agreement that exists between God and individuals - John 14 vs 23 - 25 . undecided

Jesus Christ said that His friends are those who do what He tells them to do - His enemies would ofcourse be those of you who refuse to do what He tells you to do- John 15 vs 14 undecided

Jesus Christ died for the sins of the Old Covenant people who God wanted to make a new agreement, Jesus Christ, with. In the New Covenant, we have laws /commandments we are to live by and anyone that refuses to live by them sins(disobedience) against God . undecided

@Ladylawyer
Restitution is very good but please know that certain things are better left in secret. If it will break hearts and cause more trouble, please pray to God and change your ways without having to voice out your offences especially to the offended. I have warned you.

@me
Very correct. The ordinary meaning of restitution is to bring back to the original position. Zacheaus' statement was the clearest in the new testament.

Scripturally you don't have proceeds of sin, enjoying them and you say that you have repented. If you forsake sin you must forsake it's proceeds.

In demonology (study of demons), you can't cast out demons and you still retain what they gave you. Those things will attract them back. In fact the vocal demons will challenge you openly.

Caveat: some restitutions are either impossible, unnecessary and/or should be handled with care. Counseling by an experience pastor will be required.

Example: someone was a cultist before. Killed the only child of a couple that cannot have another one. Upon repentance and being a born again, you then go to the couple to restitute.
