I think there's an ongoing competition, we've seen Turkish and Indian ambassadors visit CNS in recent days.

Also Turkey & India participated in the LST RFI, but both nations lost out to Holland.

With the Navy getting an LST, possibly 2 units, it is almost guaranteed that they would be getting a Frigate or Corvette too.

3 units of the Milgem would be ideal.
I don't think Nigeria would be getting a Corvette to replace aradu.,.they would be getting a proper frigate. I don't think India or Turkey would have a chance, i think the countries with a high chance would he China and Germany.

I agree with this.

my own assessment is that getting a frigate might not be the best purchase for Nigeria, as speculation is rife that we're getting only a single unit.

For me i would prefer we hold on, instead purchase 2 Corvettes. That would make more sense in my opinion.

Of-course China & Germany would be the most likely suppliers for a Nigerian frigate for obvious reasons, but we'll still have to wait and see.

Damn mess
When Zoomalia collapsed in early '91 similar arms dump from law abiding immigrants grew all along the 700 km border. Piles of AKs, RPGs,PKMs,even 14.5s! I've no hard figures but Somalis were hawking guns in Eastleigh and some estates-a cousins pal was approached by a woman selling 3 or 4 Markarovs with a bulk discout. A cop told me same yr robbers abandoned the Patchett and there was a spike in armed robberies.

Arms smuggling networks are also very active along south Sudan and Ethiopia borders .I have seen pictures of OLF using american made rifles which experts believe might have been smuggled from Kenya.
Which raises suspicion that Kenyan Intel might have been involved in the Oromo uprising.

I told you Kagame's spec ops are anything but! 1.38.,Pascal Muhizi,Rwandan ops commander and his boys. Why would any operational spec ops have an empty holster!?

https://youtu.be/zF_zfx-ycjk

Its a prop.
A prop, formally known as (theatrical) property,[1] is an object used on stage or screen by actors during a performance or screen production.[2] In practical terms, a prop is considered to be anything movable or portable on a stage or a set, distinct from the actors, scenery, costumes, and electrical equipment
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theatrical_property

Brig.Muhizi with his Moz' opposite number. A reminder of a true spec ops loadout. The holster may be on chest on abdomen but its never empty while on operations because it performs a function as critical as that of the primary rifle, which is engaging the enemy at close range, much closer than ordinary infantry.

I do know the OLF has a camp in Marsabit,IIRC but its a long running operation to insert national cleavage along ethnic lines, typical CIA MO. Oromo vs Habesha,vs Somali vs Nilotic Anuak vs Omotic (not Oromo!) etc, etc. Some of these guys have long running ethnic and historical grievances dating back 150 to 500 years!

BREAKING NEWS

Nigerian Navy would purchase 2 x additional OPVs

Worthy of note is the support from Mr President and Commander-in-Chief. Specifically, Mr President has shown tremendous support for our fleet recapitalization effort. Recall, the recent acquisition of NNS LANA, again contract has been awarded for a sister ship to NNS LANA which is the 35m Hydrographic Survey Ship. Also, construction work is ongoing on the LST-100 and we have just received yet another approval for the acquisition of 2 x OPVs.

Yet another patrol boat?

We really need proper fighting ships, we just keep piling on the patrollers left right & center.

This is good news for the NN.
But why more OPVs @kabe, why can't we go for armed Corvettes with some missiles ?

Something we have the capability of building here and providing jobs for, is what we are exporting wealth to other countries. sad .
I would rather spend that money on expanding the capacity of Nigerdock than buying more patrol ships.

It's good news that we are buying new ships no doubt, but like you i wonder why we keep buying Offshore Patrol Vessels, especially considering that we already have a large patrol fleet.

I was thinking that with the purchase of the LST, installation of Falcon Eye, Nimasa C4i systems and the new patrol ships from Nimasa, our OPV buying days would be over.

It's incredible, how many patrol ships do we want to really own at the end of the day.

The navy said after SDB 3, SDB 4 would be started though.

However i agree that we need capacity to build these patrol ship's locally.

Exactly, building a class of ship is not just for the knowledge base, being able to build in quantity means not only can we satisfy our needs for the ship type locally, but we can export for proceeds. Mass production brings about economies of scale which improves competitiveness. Proceeds for ship building can be ploughed back into expansion and development of capacity for bigger ships. Basically, learn, build, sell, invest, repeat. wink

Indian High Commissioner's recent visit to NN HQ after the recent unusual visit from the Turkish Ambassador. India and Turkey recently lost out on the LST contract to DAMEN. They're probably vying for the new major NN contracts

I knew the visits were quite unusual.

They all visited Navy headquarters to drop tender documents.

Surely the NN would be looking at better specced OPVs of the same Chinese type you already operate?
That's just me thinking out loud for 2 reasons:
1) Ease of logistics;
2) pretend to open it up to competition to leverage better deal out of the Chinese.
