Most scanners can scan only the engine and few can scan the gearbox. Make sure you use a good scan tool that can read codes from both the engine and gearbox of your car

If he truly has a low level of transmission fluid, he could have the symptoms described, without any diagnostic trouble codes.

Let him address the low transmission fluid first rather than scam first. Otherwise, there might be permanent damage to the transmission (gearbox). I guess he is still driving the car.

If the gear continues to malfunction with a correct fluid level, you may scan. Generally, faulty transmission pressure sensors or shift solenoids would throw trouble codes.

Hello Guys, I have a Honds Accord 03. It has been home for a while because of its issues. My sister drives it 80% of the time because I'm hardly around but I try to keep up with it's maintenance.

The problem started when I took it for servicing and they noticed the gear oil was almost empty. It was replaced with a Abro ATF oil. Same oil was used for power steering.

After going through this thread I checked the car this morning. For sale of history has gone three trips to the mechanic while having all these issues.

1. The D on gear blinks and after a while, it stops and then starts again. The gear oil is way above the maximum limit. A picture is attached below.

The engine oil needs changing as it's almost black.

2. It slows down on its own and would come to a hault if I don't press the accelerator. It would pick up on its own after. This happens quite often. I've sent it to the mechanic twice and they said the gear needs to be checked.

3. The car jerks when accelerating. I've changed the engine seats twice. The front and right seats were changed but somehow it started again. On park when I put it on reverse or drive, the engine jumps like crazy. I found out the mechanic didn't buy a new seat. He just put some rubbers. Anyways, I changed the engine seats but the back one got damaged again. A friend said it's because we didn't change the left one cos it was bad.

4. It keeps making a whirry sound when I turn the steering on park. On checking with the car dealer, we noticed the power steering oil pipe was leaking. He also suggested the alternator belt was faulty hence the sound so we took it to the mechanic. The changed the pipe and after 2 days, the steering was hard to turn and then I returned it.
As of now, the steering makes the whining sound on turning, I notice the pipe also moves when turning. The power steering gauge is optimum. I used ATF oil and color is still pink.
I dumped the car because I don't have time to sit with one mechanic that won't make heaven as I've spent a lot with ball joint, bushing, shock absorber, silencer wahala and co.

I don't mind if anyone has a reliable mechanic in Lagos and after this, I'll take maintenance of the car more seriously.

Do NOT have to crucify the mechanic just yet.
Have you asked the car owner why he allowed such on this car?

Fact its, most car owners prefer cutting corners than to do the right thing. It takes very stubborn unweilding hardened upright determined mindset to do the right thing for most car owners.

Evening everyone.

I need advice about the headlamb of my car.

Honda Accord 03 4plugs.

I noticed while driving in the night, when the head lamb is dim, I struggle to see clearly especially other incoming traffic headlight will make one go blind lol. When I use the full light, I will enjoy the brightness for a while and within 5 minutes or thereabouts the full light will not be that bright anymore, I will need to switch between dim and full light to enable me maneuver and drive perfectly in the night.

I have changed the bulb couple of times with tokunbo as advised but still won't cut it, I have had the headlamb washed/cleaned its seem bright at first but still resorted to the same problem, I have try resetting the head lamb to know if it's facing upward but all to no avail.

I will be happy to get advise on what to do next, I am suspecting, although I don't know if there's anything like that but I am thinking maybe there's a sensor or something that works with the DRL and if changed it'll make the full light brighter and last longer while driving in the night.

Thank you.

I'm sorry it's not about cutting corners. I didn't complain about cost of maintaining a car. Money is not the problem. I explained I hardly spend time with the car and hardly drive it. I only pay for maintenance or run errands on weekend. Not everyone has hours to spend at a mechanic workshop. Anyways, it's Nigeria. I've learnt the hard way that I'm supposed to be a mechanic myself and then embark on a search for a honest mechanic that knows his stuff. Lack of knowledge is why I'm here sha. If you have any advice for me concerning the car issue, I will appreciate it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. The right oil to use is the Honda ATF DW-1 transmission fluid right? I'm planning to drop it off at this new mechanic tomorrow but sadly I won't be chances to stay there with him. Do you have any suggestions as to what's happening?

I believe I never asked you to sit and police your technician; at least not in my response to you. I aslo never suggest you become a mechanic too.

Overgauge of your ATF is also not good. Below are the right fluids for your car:
ATF - Genuine Honda DW1
Engine Oil 5W 30.

Tell the new mechanic to scan your car. He will understand what this means. Then post the codes from the scan here.

Specification for Honda Accord 1999 V6
City Driving - 18mpg ie 7.61km per litre
Highway - 26mpg ie 11km per litre
Combined - 21 mpg ie 8.88 km per litre

i just did my calculations and i discovered the car did 5.8km/l for city driving which i think its very poor. bought 27 litre and all it could go was 98mph which i converted to kmh.
please is my calculation right?
what can i do to reduce the fuel consumption.
Thanks.

please i notice my car gear was serviced with abro ATF as the remaining oil and gallon is still in the car boot, the oil is still clean and i have scan the vehicle , error shown has been corrected but the problem experience ( the car draws abit while changing from 1 to 2 and then suddenly jump and start moving normally until u apply brake.) still persist.
should i replace the oil ?and how much is ATF - Genuine Honda DW1 in the market.

Quit using Abro ATF.
Use Genuine Honda DW1. Price is about N4700 per can. You require 4 cans for your ride.

there is a component in your under hood fuse box called an Electronic Load Detector (ELD) and this is what i believe is causing the issues with your ride. the bad news is that the ELD is very very difficult to change out of thefuse box by itself which willfinally require you to purchase a totally new or tokumbo fuse box to solve your problem.

I have this codes

22-03 rocker arm oil pressure switch (a) circuit low voltage

70-20 A/T system malfunction

70-03 shift solenoid valve b stuck off

Pls help me as my gear takes about 6seconds to enter Drive forcefully in the morning

If the gear continues to malfunction with a correct fluid level, you may scan. Generally, faulty transmission pressure sensors or shift solenoids would throw trouble codes.

Rocker arm oil pressure switch (a) circuit low voltage: Check wiring of your vtec solenoid. If intact, you might need to replace the solenoid to fix that.

A/T system malfunction: Likely due to input speed shaft sensor malfunction.

Shift solenoid valve b stuck off: Check the link below for possible causes/ what to do.

Check your transmission fluid level. A low level would cause all symptoms you listed.
If transmission fluid is not low. Scan for transmission codes. Lastly, the tyranny might be on its way to giving up.

That is how mine use to sound too ooo. Can I say it's general ?
