I think most of the points you've mentioned i.e. improving the efficiency of manufacturing/production processes, cost reduction, etc falls squarely under Industrial/Production Engineering.

Chemical engineering is broad bro. Most of the courses done in the undergraduate centered around reaction engineering, process design, unit operation, safety, production and lots more. Possibly they can fit in every sector. A chemical engineer doesn't even need to be looking for work. They can possibly start up their own production firm.

The number one role of a chemical engineer is to improve efficiency.

Google chemical engineers roles.

In the undergraduate, there is a course called Chemical reaction engineering whose main aim to is to develop and design reaction paths for maximum efficiency and yields.

Infact, a chemical engineer is always looking for the best possible means to cut cost while at the same time obtaining maximum production.

There is also a course called process design where they design a process for the production of a particular product and make estimations for the whole process, run simulation using hyses.

For instance, the building of the Dangote refinery requires chemical engineers. It is a chemical that will first run a simulation of the particular process before laying up the different equipment. If anything is wrong, the simulation will show it and will be corrected.

In the refinery, most of the chief operators are chemical engineers. The industrial and mechanical engineers are the ones doing maintenance work on the equipment. But for the production department, it's mainly chemical engineers. They are the ones that produce and monitors the productions process.

If anything is going wrong, they are the ones that will detect it and stop operation.

There is no engineering role they can't fit in.

Too restrictive. Go for Mechanical Engineering for your undergrad or postgrad after a B.Eng in Mat Met Engineering.
I am in 300l already..so masters in mechanical engineering degree program is possible outside Nigeria right?

I'm sure they probably can. Of course However that's not the point. The point is that ACTUAL Chemical Engineering vacancies, be it in Nigeria OR developed countries are low compared to the 3 main engineering arms (electrical, mechanical, civil), or worse ICT roles. Keep in mind that it is far easier for practitioners of these 4 courses to strike out on their own compared to Chemical Engineers. Most times, a considerable number of Chemical Engineers, at least in Nigeria, tend to take different technical roles or career paths, and that's okay as Engineering as a whole tends to produce some of the very best analytical minds and problem solvers. Still, actual chemical engineering roles are low.

Absolutely. There are lots of schools abroad that offer Master degree in Mechanical Engineering. So no sweat.

Biochemistry. Chemistry.

Most people who studied these courses are doing something else.

Let me add that these courses are not easy. Hard but almost nothing to show for it after graduation.
Yes and No. I am a biochemist/Software developer. Anybody you study...if you can...add programming to it.

I dont regret my Biochemistry days/degrees, got me my current job.

Not at all young man. Finite element methods is largely a mathematical technique used in obtaining approximate solutions in boundary-based value problems in engineering. It's a mathematical method that discretizes the entity, be it fluid flow, heat flux, flexible footings on spring foundations, thin plates and shells on pressure vessels etc for the sole purpose of obtaining and assembling the governing equations into stiffeness matrices with identifiable boundary conditions. It wasn't copied from Mechanical engineering as you claimed. As mechanical engineering is a sub-set of civil engineering. Mechanical engineering deals with determinate structures/bodies, kinematics and kinetics of rigid bodies, structural dynamics, fluid mechanics (single and multiphase, compressible and incompressible flows), etc All of these are covered in civil engineering as courses in structural engineering, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, theories of deflection, slope, explicit stresses in shells, plates, etc are all taught to civil engineers and are the basis of software such as PLAXIS, ANSYS, STAADpro, ABAQUS, etc Please be aware that I practice both civil, mechanical (statics/ non-rotating), piping and pipeline engineering all at once.

Are there statically indeterminate textbooks you can recommend for a student engineer

Several strength of materials' text books are available. That of Rk. Rajput is good. Also strength of materials by Khurmi is also good.

Who gave you the idea to type this plenty rubbish?

A doctor in Nigeria treats an average of 6k patients a year. Meaning we are in serious need of Doctors.

Travelling out of Nigeria doesn't require a lot of money too. Just study hard and pass your PLAB, or USMLE.

How many medical doctors have you seen looking for job?

Biko, stop waking up in the morning and start writing what you're not sure of

Today, doctors are fleeing Nigeria because of not being paid salaries.

I am here to remind you blockheads.

Negative perspective! Remember Malthus theory in economics. Where was the kind of negative things he predicted?
Know this for sure, there must be darkness before light. Nigeria will be better in 2031

I am to remind you lots. Just do me a favour by not deactivating this account.

I will be so petty.

You're an idiot! So, you didn't know that actions have consequences?! They didn't teach you that as a child?! So, you thought Nigeria will get better for medical doctors? I'm very sure you suck El-Rufai's d!ck and swallow his Fulanised cum. I'm pretty sure you campaigned and voted for Buhari in 2015. I'll continue to remind you blockheads as long as as I'm on Nairaland.

Next time, when intelligent people predict the course of Nigeria, you will listen.

Reading the Wall Street Journal, I came across topics on student's debt and read an article on the wealthy paying off tuition fees of medical students. The stats and follow-up comments further reinforce this thread by Tensa20 on why certain courses should not be studied by folks from poor homes.

Article link: https://www.wsj.com/articles/nyu-offers-full-tuition-scholarships-for-all-medical-students-1534433082?mod=article_inline

As a Nigerian from a poor home, you are better off studying Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and if you so desire to study Medicine, do so at a public university then push towards relocating to a developed country to take advantage of the subsidised education you got while in Nigeria.

This is one of the best thread , nice one. But Mechanical is still one of the best, reason being that mechatronic is still very relevant. And with a background in mechanical engineering, you easily get funding abroad and yakpa from this country for further studies. Nice one bro

Do you know what you are saying. Civil engineering is far more better than mechanical engineering for your information

We attach unnecessary importance to paper qualifications. Getting out of poverty goes beyond school. The real school is what you can do outside the confines of classrooms. I graduated from the university one and half decade ago, and for more than ten years post-graduation, I couldn't hold 200k of my own. I had to look inside to forge ahead . By the special grace of God, my first millions arrived with the pandemic. Students should focus on self employment and not paid employment
