Pls madam no vex too much. If I am the one I will vex well well o, esp if it's for my personal abode. Since it's for rental purpose pls manage, although I don't know how small the door actually is. But pls madam, pardon. This place is really a classroom we are learning everyday, either the soft way or the hard way.
I'm not a professional on doors, the professionals should guide you if the door size is usable as claimed by michlins.

at first I got angry and that's how I lashed out at her but then she's still my customer who gave me her hard earned money. That's what some family members won't do for you.

And all these are opening me up to improved ways people do things. I might say am still running business the way I learnt from my boss.

Will this type of thing happen to me again where I assume the customer knows what he or she wants, absolutely not

I have a secret to share with you on how to handle these type of issue moving forward.

This simple tip will save you a lot of headache if you apply it in your business.

One thing you should have noticed by now is that the client is a complete novice on your profession. She’s just using ideas grin grin

Mama @eyinne, don’t come for me o.

As a matter of fact, she had no idea about the door sizes until she was told.

Know your client. Know who has the final authority. Deal directly with the decision makers.

It’s easier for @spyder880 to understand and deal with you than @eyinne because he’s in the field and he has all the need-to-know information which @eyinne can never dream of.

Often times, we tend to believe the man who made the payment is the decision maker. That’s partly true. There’s always that silent person whose opinion can never be discarded.
In some cases, it’s the madam of he house.

Did you realize it was the site engineer who actually complained about the door before madam brought it here? Even though she didn’t say it, I know he’s the decision maker here. His position determines whether the doors will be used or not?
Since he’s not involved in the award of the job, he’d only stay silent until issues crop up.

I’m not saying the engineer on this particular project is the one behind this issue o.

Moving forward, always tell your clients to allow you speak directly with the engineer on site. If it’s a project without an engineer, request for pictures that depict exactly what the client wanted. Ask specific questions to clarify likely issues.

Lastly, take the pain to visit the site to take as-built measurement of any job given to you.

Well done bro! You’re doing well!

This is ok, but we will still need to look at other factors, ACCESSIBILITY, CIRCULATION & CONGESTION WITHIN THOSE MARKED POINT(BLUE), ALSO WITH THIS LAYOUT THE BASIN HAS BEEN CONFINED, ONLY IN WC(TOILET ) MIGHT BE THE ONE THAT WILL FIND IT USEFUL

You are right , accessibility is another factor. Also the orientation of the bathroom with enclosing the WC will create more space

It's surprising that the good Samaritan that offered to take the doors in the first instance hasn't stepped forward to take up this second opportunity that presented itself.

That would put the issue to rest, irrespective of weather lessons were learnt or not.

Advice is just all over the place.

#. You advised him to speak first with the site engineer. Not a good idea. He did this with megacontrol project I think. We all know what happened. Fraud!

#. Some have advised that he fabricates exactly the size of the opening. He did this with a client here. He almost got into trouble. The window didn't fit without clearance. The client though reasonable, said as a professional he should have known better to accommodate clearance for installation.

#. Now he has delivered with clearance for installation. Trouble.

#. You advised him to first travel from the East to Lagos just to take measurements. This is just not practicable in this modern era. You said you have imported kitchen from Wickes in the UK. Did they travel first to Nigeria just to take measurements before delivering?

How this things are done is to deliver EXACTLY to the letter the measurements given by the client. 3ft must be 3ft if this is the measurement given. If it doesn't fit, it's the client's responsibility. He was contracted to deliver 3ft. He wasn't contracted to install or worry how it would be installed.

He should talk to the client nicely (peace rapping) with a view to giving a mutually negotiated rebate for any inconveniences caused.

On the flip side, if contracted to install as well, deliver EXACTLY the measurements given and break walls or find creative ways to install. If walls are to be knocked down, consult the client first BEFORE commencing.

Now if from consultation with the client it was agreed that clearance for installation should be accommodated, then the quote should be for the reduced size with demonstrable difference in the price.

At this point I would suggest to auction the iron doors here. Both Artisan and customer can meet half way with the proceed.

@michlins
@Enyinne

Ring the auction bell if you guys eventually agree to this.

I speak as a professional here and not as a client. I does from the place of experience not as an emotional observer.

The same issue still happened to someone here few days ago.

Read my position on the window project. I gave the same advice.

It’s a free world though so he can choose what advice to follow.

Greetings all...

I am about to transact some business with @Chizagi for some bath doors *Double panel American doors* purported to have a high water resistant ability.

I am starting with bath doors and if all goes well as he promised and he delivers just before this weekend, then more business and more clients may come his way.

He is transporting them from Lagos to Orlu at an agreed price.

I hope he gets a thumbs up from me and I shall return to tell you of the transaction later.

Una well done ooo

@spyder880
@diodarves
@mufutua
@next
@Goodfaith
Etc...

Update.

The proposed transaction with @chizagi couldn't go ahead as planned. He could not assure the delivery time for the doors as requested as the delivery van said they could have delays.
I would not be around again to receive doors if the lead time was too variable.
So the deal has been suspended for now.
I might just have to source for the doors close by eg Onitsha

@spyder880 please any contact for me at Ogidi market?

Like someone said, it's not recommended to tamper with the chemistry. The soakaway is working as it should.

Apart from changing the occupants' food diet (lol), what I would do if this was mine is to find a way to source and then place activated carbon filters around the vent. Something like this (dunno if you can find in Nigeria) ....

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Activated-Carbon-Odour-Filter-Joseph/dp/B07XLP7RKG/

This will involve a mini-project to design a fitment or box around the vent that keeps the filter dry during rainy conditions.

Also note that they are to be replaced periodically, once saturated (you will notice when smell reappears). Interval depends on the, ahem, occupants' diet.

Good luck.

They should go green. Full time vegetarian diet.

In terms of ligositics, anything could go wrong. If you're on a thin time, it's better you source locally.

A 2-days journey could take a week or more.

Wish I needed doors at this present time. I would have taken the 2 doors in, so this back n forth can end.

@Michlins
As a contractor here, ask @spyder880 @abdulwastecx @twinskenny @brabus and others, you tale some heavy losses just to protect your name and avoid controversies.

I once BOUGHT MDF doors, supplied and installed for a client here. Some were faulty, but we're replaced.

Client didn't pay me up till today.

There are alot of stories. At the end, client must he satisfied.

Just yesterday, on my site, client's mum (who isn't going to live in the house) came and told us the rooms are too small. These are rooms that are bigger than normal with 7x7 toilets.

After about 4 hours of intense back n forths, we had to agree to break some walls to satisfy her. From 3 bedroom upstairs to 2 bedroom..

If the doors were in the East, u could have just taken them to your office to display. People will buy.

From Iwo road to Osogbo should be about 30mins on bike, right?

We are even in the raining season. Vehicle breakdowns are inevitable. New pot-holes are being birthed with each rainfall.

I remember when we were waiting for stone coated tiles from Tilcor, from Lagos to Port harcourt.

A journey of 3 days took almost 2 weeks. Customs seized the goods. They had to send bill of laden from company to the driver at Benin before they let him go. Client was very understanding and confirmed I wasn't lying.

Under normal circumstances it shouldn’t take more than that much time but I wasn’t familiar with that route and there were some alarming potholes.

This vendor / client issue is more about communications than ineptitude. The last of my windows was supposed to have been delivered last week Monday. No call from vendor, no message, nothing. Thankfully it’s not urgent as I can be doing other stuff. All he has to do is simply call me or send WhatsApp. But na naija we dey grin

Here is the floor plan. The confusion is fitting both a tub and shower in the space.

This will work well, I will just take off the solid wall used for the toilet enclosure, glaze it or better leave it open so far it's for a private room

That's the setup I'm considering but I don't think I have the space for the total length. If only bath tubs/jacuzzi came in less than six foot lengths.

Thanks.
