I'll be resigning in the from my work place to venture into Freelancing full time. Why?

Because my work is so stressful. It's 6:04am and I'm already late for work. I'll be at the work place doing tedious work till 7:30pm. I'll have to be standing till that evening time of the day. It's a one man business and I risk being fired any time. From March to August, I've been able to save 55k. I don't do it drinks. Neither do I smoke or buy expensive things for myself. Well, yes. I don't have a girlfriend. So saving 55k portrays how zealous I am with the savings with the little I earn. Now, I'm facing a health challenge: a back and waist pain. So I want out.

Planning on focusing on the Freelancing route.

My worry now is, am I making the right decision?

I need your advice. What would you do if you were to be me?

To be or not to be?

Just like any field of endeavor... If you know what you are doing in freelancing, you can be making more than you're currently making.

Personally I know how much I pay for written content for my 5 websites every month.

So if you develop yourself into a good content writer, the opportunities are endless

Freelancing/Remote work pays if you know your onions well.
I have one church member who has not done any physical work since 2015 after his Nysc. Niggar has been freelancing since that time, from that remote work, he's built his family house, car and also done some really impressive work. I'm happy for him.

Meanwhile headache, back pain and body pain wan kill me for here say because I dey do 9am-5pm sad. Rubbish! angry

Dear op, believe when I say this: you are doing yourself a great favour and I soo... encourage you. You remind me of myself many years back. I'd raised up to a million that year through same means.

Though I have shifted my to other areas, but freelance writing remains my first love. Still in it though, but write occasionally (only when the client’s budget is good).

I encourage you, it won't be easy, especially landing your first gig. You will meet all kinds of crazy clients looking for who to implicate. But all the same, you are on the right cause, trust me on this.

I'm also learning character design and animation.

How much were you paid per month where you are leaving?

I will advise to wait a little bit while you venture into something different and once it starts to pay off, you can then leave.

When he goes to work before 6am and comes back by 7pm? The best decision is to leave.

hi, currently do both writing and 3d animation , i would advice you to center your focus on 3d on a particular animation course preferably 3d modelling and texturing or evn rigging, just go through the lot and settle on one except you have a high-end machine to run high end animations for a start (you will get the idea once you start) , and boy it isn't easy learning but if you are passionate it works afterall, good luck boss man.

Interesting decision you’re about to make for your life. You have every right to want to leave your 9 to 5, however, you’ve not got enough savings to leave. N55k is just not enough.

Unless maybe there are some gigs already waiting for you on the outside, then I suppose you are good to go.

Meanwhile, we are currently looking for writers to join our web content team.

Are you interested in this?
Send a DM then and let me get you started.

All the best as you make that huge decision.

Regards.

13 years ago shocked shocked shocked
Aaah Baba Agba. My two hands in the air for you.

@Op, let me tell you the truth. Freelancing is great but VERY COMPETITIVE. As a newbie, it can take you as much as 4-5 months before you get your first gig but if you and it comes from someone from a better country say USA or Germany, bro you are made. Pray for clients from there.
But you see clients from Bangladesh and India, please run as fast as your legs can carry. While most Bangladeshi are scammers and thrives, many Indians are workaholic. They will kill you on top $20 work. Please it's not everyone oooo.
You have to be online, apply for jobs and if you eventually get your first job, offer the client more for less. For instance, if you're to do design a page, design two or three for the client. This will surely gladen/soften his or her heart.
You also have to be very patient and keep trying. As a freelancer, you might want to delete the app. I once deleted my Upwork app after how many months. But still be optimistic. God go do am.

But now wey you say na only 50K you get bro e risky oooo. You should have sought for advice first. I'll advise you get something to do while your account grows/matures. You don't start freelancing and start earning immediately (except God too dey ya side). My friend who is my mentor here am before him account pick up and when it did, baba dey run from jobs. Na we dey help am handle gigs. Pray for this and God go do am. Amen

So dude you are saying people don't make millions of Naira from upwork?
A whole almighty upwork hmm nawaoo

People make money from it but most of them exaggerate the amount they actually earn.

For instance check out the guy whose comment is 2 steps above yours, he claims he makes so much but he's here scouting for 15 people to pay him 30K each for training grin

I did the same. Sometimes February this year. But before I quoted, I was already earning more than my salary designing website on fiverr. I also had some savings though as a back up in case.

I will advice you start earning little from freelancing before you quit. So that by the time you eventually decide to leave the ample time will enable you earn more.

If you leave without having any source of income at all will make you eat your savings and you will most likely become depressed.

Freelancers experience depression oo.

Hello bro, I'm learning web design.can you drop some hints/tips of what I need to know before getting started on Fiverr..the service you are offering, is it wordpress design??

My work is somehow in between. I do private tutoring so I plan my time well. Also I love my job even if it's not high paying (it depends on location but the pay is >₦50000)

If you are into web development, create a plugin, product or theme that works and sell on Codecanyon or Themeforest (Envato). There is minimal loss of money. So far what you do is good, people will buy.
evil1:
Very true
Only if you know how many accounts I have on different freelancing platforms yet no single gig.
And these freelancing even requires you do the job first then submit it for acceptance.

Imagine creating a website and the client rejects it. Despite their monetary policy, you stand a chance to loose a lot.
Freelancing is actually advisable in aspects like copywriting, transcription, not all areas like web development is good gig.
Most of all you have to compete with users with high ratings and reviews.
