Happy birthday sir. Before the CR7s, there were very talented players that made the No.7 shirt popular. Mathematical Odegbami was one of them.
I met this man at the Westfield Stratford City in 2012. He was at the Mall with Bolaji Abdullahi, the sports minister during the 2012 Olympics.

There were no junior competitions at that time and players didn't have any reason to reduce their ages. In fact, some players increased their ages because they believed that coaches would think that they were too young to feature in the squad.

A secondary school classmate who is older than I is currently planning to go for Nigeria under 17! I wrote WAEC in 2010 ooooh! That's the year we left secondary school; so you can imagine........

The first Under 21 tournament was held in1977 and Nigeria didn't feature until 1983, while the first Under 16 tournament was held in 1985. Before that players didn't need to reduce their ages.

What sometimes happened was that a player that was 16 or 17 years old would claim that he was 19 or 20 because he thought that coaches would think that he was too young to play.
