I thought I was the only one who saw it! It's not our fault that we have prying eyes.

Owuon, owuon...

Hahahahaaaa

After all the effort put into making what you saw, ended up like normal porridge beans...

On a more serious note.
I think your mistake was from the kind of beans you used and the ingredients. In the original one, it looks like they used black beans the Edo people call oyile or ukpele.

If it's not any of those beans, then they used kporokporo stem to achieve that color.
It's Achicha,
they used a beans called Agbugbu otherwise known as fiofio(looks more like peageon pea, u can also use peagon pea, that's the akidi u know)
then the second major ingredient is dried coaco yam (dried Ede) that's pounded and made to look like gritty sand
Then red oil
Onions
Yellow Pepper(for the flavour) and
Ukpaka
Very simple Ingredients.

Not bad. The final result looks okayish. My favourite. Beans and fried plantain or fried arish potato and fried egg with hot juice or thick tea to wash it down.
