Strike is the only thing to get govt attention in this country! Nigeria is a lawless country, Govt don't regard court orders here.

It is 7:04am as I comment on this thread. Why? Well, I got up early to study for my Msc Dissertation defense scheduled for the 8th of September. I decided to pause and scroll through my phone.

Inasmuch as my defense may be affected by this, I'm gonna with stand with ASUU on this matter. This agreement was originally signed by FG way back in 2013 I think....that's after a lengthy midnight meeting with Jonathan. Sadly, in 2021, it is yet to be implemented in full. Very pathetic.

I've visited Associate Professors and PhD holders in their houses... there's nothing rich about these guys. They're just regular civil servants like every other person. Some are more comfortable than others though.

The labs are dilapidated. I bought everything I used during my research. The blood analysis was done in a private lab because the university did not have the facilities required to analyze the blood samples.

It is pathetic

Your government are the people destroying your future stop shifting blames, if the academic staff union aren’t paid how would they manage to push Nigeria education system forward? Over time government has failed to implement agreement reached by both parties after negotiations.

But western education is haram. Why do you think Buhari gives an F about people going to university? Mlh his kids are allowed to go to university. If you try Islamic lectures or Islamic teachings, you will see Buhari roaring like a wounded lion. For now, na una go tire.

Let's start by comparing "other countries" public universities, healthcare system, security, electricity supply, standard of living... Is Nigeria on the same level with them?!! Why if not?!!

Are lecturers of public universities supposed to fund these highly expensive researches from their salaries?!! How many of our Nigerian universities are up to international standards?!! Is any Nigerian university among the top 10 or 20 across the globe?!! How many graduates from other nations come here for further studies compared to those leaving here for the same reason abroad?!!!

The priority of this government is different, a government that can build rail road to Niger with billions that won't yield us any economic benefit is who anyone is taking serious.

A professor is collecting btwn 400 and 500k monthly. That's after years of research and teaching. What is 400k going to do in these present economy?? You expect him to use that money for research too. A master degree holder is earning 120k monthly. Do you expect anything from that kind of person except collecting money for bribes and useless text books?? How many workshop and labs are working?? Most lectures borrow money to further their studies abroad.

And you expect the best from such person?? Our curriculum is outdated and minister of education is even too old to read and maybe he has no education background. How much has these administration invested in the education?? These administration only buy fighter jets.

It's sad. I hope they even shut down our education sector because we can't even compete with anyone in the world

You have said it all, but do you know that the university environment is not conducive for research. Laboratories are not equipped and lecturers are poorly paid. They use their money to conduct research,publish research articles and attend conferences. Besides ASUU has an agreement with FG. Why can't FG honour signed agreement? Why owing lecturers? Do you want lecturers to teach free?

Look, everything must not be done by government, there are research grants institutions and individuals all over the world who are ready to fund inventions and innovations.

If your research is good enough, all you need to do is to take it for peer review and donors will fund you.


There are also private companies who are also ready to fund good research.

Don't mind those fools please, they don't know anything. They think research is free of charge. My research for PhD involves big data,so I need to buy a laptop that can handle machine learning. This kind of laptop is 1m naira in Nigeria,so imagine if I need to buy chemicals for experiment too.
