Exactly my thoughts. You ban your banks from crypto transactions. Within a few months you create your own version. Of crypto and tell the same banks to adopt, promote and distribute it to the populace. My concern now is how will this e-naira exchange with other e- currencies that the banks should not allow or is it going to be a stand alone currency?
This their enaira project will fail if they make one critical mistake, prevent the integration of enaira with crypto exchanges. Its will be so useless as there will be no incentive to using enaira.

The summary of what was written here is :-

1) you can open an e wallet either with NIN or your existing bvn linked account
2) you can send e naira from one wallet to another FREE of charge

Emphasis on the second point which is you can send naira from one account to another.

In other words imagine doing bank transfer with no charges, no atm fees, no pos fees nothing like how most countries operate.

This is the summary of what the e naira offers you

This ain’t cryptocurrency neither is it a new currency or a currency backed by naira.

It’s just the CBN telling you from the 1st of Oct 2021 you can now send naira electocnically free or charge

True but you fail to see the negative side, the government can controla and confiscate your money electronically.

There are many financial institutions licences by CBN who are already operating e-wallet system in Nigeria, where we can easily transfer money from our bank account to an e-wallet and vice versa. E.g is kuda, fairmoney etc.

There is nothing special or new about this initiative. CBN just wants to snatch and compete with these private financial institutions, POS operators thereby creating more unemployment.

Digital currencies aren't cryptocurrencies

They are different.

Digital currencies are just the digital form of physical fiat

They also do that with physical fiat.

They can freeze your bank account and confiscate your money

You know I was just thinking the same thing, it is a lovely innovation but it definitely has a lot of negative sides too and I fear it might even contribute more to unemployment. Banks for example...without the physical cash will there be need for all those tellers/cashiers??
That's evolution for you. When crypto fully gets its ground worldwide, many in the banking system will lose their jobs no doubt.

No sir, the banks control crypto.

It seems you don't know that the bulk of institutional investors in crypto are banks

Banks have been in the digital transfer of money since the internet started.

All the figures in your account are just one form of the digital transfer of cash which eventually you receive in physical fiat currency.

We are not using . The target of this is the youth and we the youth are not using.. sell it to politicians and your lots .. we are not interested.. rubbish.. after banning crypto.. this is a failed idea at digital currency.. when I heard CBN was floating its own digital currency I thought they would develop their own national coin on blockchain like Ghana Tanzania and other countries.. this is just replication of a mobile money wallet system.. .. CBN has downgraded to mobile money levels.. crap..read my lips we are not interested..Ur remittance policy killed employment for youth same did your crypto policies .. several accounts are blocked till date with funds .. just cos they trade crypto.. this is a desperate move .. we are not interested..let Ur political class use it

That is the problem. Is it not this same govt that rubbished crypto? How comes they are introducing E-naira 50k -300k max, I believe this plan is not safe. I call it MMM v 2.0
The government rubbished crypto because they couldn't regulate it as much as they want. They would be able to regulate e Naira.

There would be massive rush on this from POS operators because of zero charges..

Please how do one register... am honestly tired of the:

- Debit turnover charges from Access bank
- Maintenance charge from various banks
- N10, 20, 50, 100 charges on every transfer transaction from banks..

Thank you CBN..

The CBN should enable international transfers since the NIN and BVN would be employed as a verifiable tool for fraudulent operations. Thereby having a firm control on FX exchange rate.

Meaning it's good news for POS operators only because their profit margin will be augmented.

Yes for them, likewise you and myself whom pay heavy monthly charges to banks.. this would curb that.

If Naira depreciate in value and will the e-Naira depreciate in value too? If yes, then keep it , I don't want it .

Of course, it would just be same as Naira but an e-Naira.

However, this is doorway to the type of corruption and theft that would make Abacha look like an angel. All they need is type in a number like 996,896,687,795,477 and that would become real money!! Then, they'll cash out the physical cash from a bank. Even a serious hacker can do that if a lot of money is involved.
