The governments of Lagos and Rivers states have expressed their readiness to begin the collection of Value Added Tax in accordance with the judgement of a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, which ruled that states, and not the Federal Inland Revenue Service, should be collecting VAT and Personal Income Tax.https://punchng.com/lagos-rivers-begin-vat-collection-fg-north-disagree/

Why should the northerners disagree with any discission except that which favors them? They disagreed when the governors from the southern region banned open grazing, now this. which kind of people be this |

I know the parasitic states in the northern Nigeria will likely fight this. How can you collect VAT on ogogoro and brothels somewhere in Ajegunle, Lagos and redistribute the same VAT to Hisbah controlled Kano where beers are being destroyed. What an hypocrisy? This is how federalism should work. There are more obnoxious to fight by the federating States through Instrumentality of the judiciary if the judiciary will be impartial. Then it will dawn on all that powers at the centre won't be attractive as attention will be shifted to the states and local governments level. |

The collection of VATS by states is a good decision made by the court because those states that allow bandits and other criminal elements to go unpunished after destroying lives and businesses will begin to take security issues more seriously to attract investors into their states. |

Why is every national disagreement always a case of the North vs the South? Something is fundamentally wrong with our Union, we shouldn't keep pretending that we're fine the way we are. |

These Sharia and hisbah people are hypocrites. Why seek to benefit from what you detest? They should continue destroying bottles |

For once, God bless Wike for instituting the case. It's rocking the Northern leeches to their foundation. I ask again, what does the Northern States bring the National sharing table? They can go and collect VAT on their cows, onions and even from bandits. The cheating is astronomical, why must get less than what I contributed, and getting more than what you contributed? That's height of injustice.. |

This is music to my ear. Aboki cannot be destroying thousands of crates of beer every time but rush to Abuja every month end to share in VAT generated from beer. Lagos and Rivers, and other high IGR states are about to be extra rich. Shebi north said it’s not a parasite? That it has vast landmass and agricultural produce? Ngwanu let it start taxing every piece of land in the north. Let it tax those selling onions, yam, tomatoes, donkey, camel, and the rest. |

Every state should create a good business environment for investors.. you cannot ban beer and other alcoholic beverages in your state and want to collect proceeds of the same beverages from other states.. wike should give them hot. Sanwo-olu is disappointing me, apart from his handling of Lekki Massacre the guy dey try.. No more monkey dey work baboon dey chop.. Thunder fire any Parasite wey no want allow us progress. |

It's a good development... states would take security and tourism very serious which bring about infrastructure and business attractions. On the second hand, you cant have only one functioning seaport and then a state tries to monopolize its VAT. You also have to consider the fact that due to the monopoly of certain infrastructures in Lagos, it has been a massive brain drain from various states and regions. |

They should also look into collecting others like stamp duties, telephone vat etc. They can’t be collecting from telecom while they shut down Zamfara telecom. |
| Re: Lagos, Rivers Begin VAT Collection, FG, North Disagree by Penguin2: 6:08am On Sep 05, 2021 |
Urbanchampion:They claim they’re bringing vast landmass to the table. Let them tax their fvcking landmass. If I were Zamfara and Katsina, I would make sure bandits start paying 7.5 percent VAT for every ransom ![]() |

The North has a terrible growth pattern but wants to share proceeds from stable southern economy, it's simple stabilize your states and take all the vat. |

This is one of the sweetest news, if true. those stupid parasites would always disagree but the most comforting fact is that they can all go to hell, stupid abokeys, game over for yall. When are the rest cowards who calls themselves souther Governors going to implement this? |

Urbanchampion:The only thing wrong with the union is that the states in the north are not willing to look inwards and tap into their strength for the improvement of the lives of its people. They want to keep reaping where they didn't sow. To the news , this is a test of resource control and true federalism. Technically, Rivers State has kicked off the process without waiting for the divisive federal government. I think another state should challenge federal policing, while another drags the FG to court to challenge why it collects the proceeds from resources in its domain. Perhaps if this FG is reluctant to do the needful, states will apply legal means to get it to restructure the country. This is the best way to get an irresponsible government to do what it is supposed to do, not calling for secession. Also, if a governor cannot generate revenue for his state, he should step aside. Governance should be about competition and it should be left for smart people who have outside-the-box thinking dexterity, not for nonentities who want to lazy about and loot scarce resources. |

the north is a cancer to this country, eating deep until it consumes |
| Re: Lagos, Rivers Begin VAT Collection, FG, North Disagree by affable4(m): 6:18am On Sep 05, 2021 |
Do you see that these people know what they are doing. They can't even pretend any longer. The north wants the federal government to collect tax so they can have equal share from something they have zero contribution. Very annoying. |

WHILE States in the south are collecting tax, up north some states are destroying source of revenue |

Penguin2:They can as well take their 7.5 from the ransoms they pay to the Abuja coordinating kidnapping syndicates. Imagine the lies, rather than the Gombe government official telling the truth just like his Plateau counterpart , come clean that they don't have what to tax, he's still lying that they don't have capacity. If they have the capacity, what would they tax, kunnu or almajiri? |
| Re: Lagos, Rivers Begin VAT Collection, FG, North Disagree by Powersurge: 6:20am On Sep 05, 2021*. Modified: 6:43am On Sep 05, 2021 |
VAT is one of the major injustice in this country. Your people are not paying tax, yet you are sharing from others paying. It is haram in your religion to drink alcohol (of course all their elites have alcohol in their houses), yet you are collecting the money from haram. Lagos clamored for 1% of the VAT of which she generates over 70%, they rejected it-parasitic relationship. FG has no business collecting VAT. PS: almost all the northern governors are kicking. |

| Re: Lagos, Rivers Begin VAT Collection, FG, North Disagree by ThierryJay: 6:23am On Sep 05, 2021 |
The position of the North is expected because they are the least productive in terms of VATable activities. Their excuse of using the transportation value chain is so myopic. Is that the only business sector in Nigeria? Are they aware that the contribution of interstate logistics services to national GDP is small compared to oil imports, manufacturing of goods or even the regular services sector? Why should they then think that the challenges of VAT collection from a mere interstate transport should be the basis of determining who to collect VAT nationwide? If this new judgement is implemented, Lagos, Ogun, South South and Anambra will carry most of the VAT leaving crumbs for many other states to share. |

North disagrees..... dem never start! An unproductive person should not be rewarded. Since they regard bandits as businessmen, they should be collecting VAT on every ransom received! |
