Romanoff:You think Nigerians will not be happy if the military seizes power in Nigeria? If Nigerians can take the route of Sahara desert to Europe just to escape government inflicted pains and sufferrings, where else would they not seek succour? Most African leaders are plague that need to be wipedout of human existence and memory. |

Nedfed:IBB was one of the worst millitary rulers to rule this country...and not just because of june 12. Under IBB's regime, there was security crisis, religious crisis, ethnic crisis and so on. There are many students who have not forgotten IBB...because under his regime 1) there was ASUU strike 2) in 1986, from May 23 TO jUNE 30, students were violently repressed by mopol and soldiers for protesting the death of students in one of our universities by the same MOPOL and soldiers. And critics were jailed. Even pastors. You could be picked up by DSS for making critical comments. DSS was also founded by...the same IBB. Let's not even forget...for christians...who took us into OIC? ibb. Economy wise...who brought parallel market...IBB. Corruption wise....IBB. Buhari is bad. I agree with you. But IBB was just as bad. |

Romanoff: babtoundey:Back in 1966, and 1984, Nigerians were very happy like the Guineans were when we had coup. We rejoiced. When Nzeogwu struck...people in Lagos were glad. Newspapers everywhere wrote laudatory articles. By 1974, all of them were crying. When Buhari removed the very corrupt government of Shagari...people were wishing each other 'Happy New Government' with Happy new year'. Within 6 months, they were crying. By 1998, when we had ended the very harsh rule of Abacha...who was part of every millitary rule from Bubu to his own....we could not get to civillian rule fast enough. Me that is adressing you, I am sick of APC, and of all our demcratic leaders from 1999 to date. I beleive that the first and second republic were centers of looting and corruption and even repression. The 1965 and 1983 elections were rigged...even worse than the Guinea election. But if you think Army rule would make thing better...sorry. In 1966, the SOuth west was in crisis. You could not travel to Lagos without being attacked on the road. There was coup...four years later, we had over one million people dead...if not more. 1983, WE were crying about corurotion and security. Maitatsine was killing people. We had coup. Not only did the economy get worse under Buhari, IBB and Abacha, the security situaiton got worse. Millitary rule would not improve Nigeria. Even Nzeqgwu that at least had an ideological basis...if he had succeded, he would have been a brutal dictator. Like all his colleagues. Let's not even talk about repression of speech, closure of newspapers, use of the NSO and DSS to come and arrest dissenters, etc etc. You guys should stop longing for army rule. In six months, those Guineans will be crying about repression. If you think, like i do, that this APC government is bad, army rule would be infinitely worse. In 2012...Mali had coup. Six months later...half the country was under ISIS control...because army left its job to go and dabble in governance. They had to be rescued by foreign troops. |

Ikwerelastborn:Thank you...I will soon leave this thread. But some people , still, need reminding of how bad it was. ONE is within one's rights to hate this Buhari, or curse him, or whatever. Lord knows I never voted for the man, or even trusted him. But thinking that a coup will make things better...abeg. Experience of previous coups have taught us better. Infact, the Nzeogwu coup...up till now we are still sorting out the mess and fall out from that coup. In my opinion, the guy should have left the army and contested for elections, instead of doing coup. Even Buhari, when he removed Shagari...people were happy, and dancing, and rejoicing. Within one year, they were crying as the economy and the repression got worse. |

| Re: Guinea Coup Leaders Freezes All Government Accounts by Nobody: 10:07am On Sep 10, 2021 |
BigBashiru:I believe Guinea opted out of the CFA franc currency union on independence(Sekou Toure was a very very independent minded chap, who chose independence over 'self governance within France)...so they are in full control of their currency, unlike the CFA franc countries who have part of their reserves in France! |
| Re: Guinea Coup Leaders Freezes All Government Accounts by Nobody: 10:11am On Sep 10, 2021 |
gimakon2:That's because, like most African countries, Guinea is reliant on income from selling its raw materials. They do not control the price of their raw material (for Guinea it is bauxite)...so the value of their currency drops when the income from the raw material drops Then Guinea is also import dependent...WHICH drains it of more forex. The day Guinea, and most other African countries begin to use their raw materials to make products the world wants to buy is the day their currency value goes up. |

Modrov:I understand your point. But, obviously, you misconstrued my stance. The military is no wee better than the civilian. They take madness and impunity to a level unimaginable. Nobody needs to be told that. But there is a question we need to ask ourselves, why do people rejoice each time the military strike and sack the democratically elected but undemocratic civilian rulers. It is because of the failures of the selfish men in agbada. People always need a break from a prolong and persisting madness regardless of what will or might be the outcome of the break or who bring about the break. That's exactly what my stance is. The civilian ruling in Africa has pushed everyone to the brink of wishing for life where there is none. That is the rule of survival struggle; you try all odds until all possibilities are exhausted. The military will have no justification for seizing power if the civilian leaders are just and capable. If the civilian leaders had been fair enough to the state and the people, the military will have the people would have the people to battle and contend with each time they strike. The reverse is the case because the trusted leaders have failed and people cannot but pray for laugh at their self-induced misfortunes. |

babtoundey:Thank you . But, obviously, you misconstrued my stanceNo, I did not. I fully understand you. I have been around for long enough to see how things go. . The military is no wee better than the civilian. They take madness and impunity to a level unimaginable. Nobody needs to be told that. But there is a question we need to ask ourselves, why do people rejoice each time the military strike and sack the democratically elected but undemocratic civilian rulers. It is because of the failures of the selfish men in agbada1.Because people love to project their hopes, wishes, and aspirations onto any new change. 2.And because Africa is a multiethic society...the people rejoicing come from ethnicities that have lost out in the elections...meaning they lose control of the sharing of the money. A coup is a chance to right that.(unwise thinking...but that is how many of us think) People always need a break from a prolong and persisting madness regardless of what will or might be the outcome of the break or who bring about the break. That's exactly what my stance is. The civilian ruling in Africa has pushed everyone to the brink of wishing for life where there is none. That is the rule of survival struggle; you try all odds until all possibilities are exhaustedAnd going from the frying pan into the fire is the way forward. I don't like Buhari...but take this doctor's strike. Buhari civilian when facing a NARD strike institutied no work no pay. Buhari millitary in 1984, when the same NARD went on strike...SACKED all of them. And many of them...it was a while before they got their jobs back.. The millitary has not justificaiton for seizing power period. That is treason...and yes, it was treason in 1966, and 1983. We have bad civilian governments because 1.Most of you think that democracy is just to vote and go home. 2.Most of you blast APC and PDP...and when it is time to vote...it is for the same two parties. When some of us ask you to recosider, you will start crying that both parties are too strong. Either way, having lived under Army rule...I think I prefer the worst civillian rule...rather than rule by decree. |
