Listen in nigeria, there are certain courses that should have be abolished instead of making mockery of ourselves, going by theoretical teachings, because we have zero capacity to do those things practical. Atomic energy is one of them, aviation, computer things, so many natural sciences.
People wey read those courses in nigeria University na 100 percent theory, no practicals until them graduate.

If he calls himself a professor and never travelled out to get proper exposure and hands-on practice in a university oversea in a country that has the capacity to offer that, then he is 100 percent a theory professor.

I can see a lot of bitterness and anger on this thread about the appointment.

Now before I continue, I would like to make one thing clear...I think this APC government is a disaster, and I think that they have failed in a host of things. I have never voted for Buhari, nor do I intend to vote for his party.

The amount of anger and bitterness on this site towards the appointment of this man is so open that one has to start asking questions....why is there such bitterness

I think the answer is simple. Nigerian politics is a means to get benefits for one self...not a means of development. The closer your tribe is to the seat of power, the more possible it is to get a job with perks. Am sure the guy got the job....despite his impressive CV, because of his tribe, not his qualifications. Likewise, many of the people blasting him here are people who got benefits directly and indirectly because their tribe was close to the seat of power.

This mindset has to change. Even if we breakup the country, I am sure the mindset will remain. It has been there from before independence, and it is one of the many reasons why we are poor. A Northerner or Southerner gets the big job, and then starts favoring his or her people first...and generates bitterness for no good reason...meanwhile actual development gets done nada.

For example, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, a Prof. of Zoology headed the National Space Research and Development Agency for 10years. Did anyone question the appointment? No! because aside from being a Zoologist, he's contributed to body of knowledge in Biotech, ICT and Space Technology

I don't kid myself on things that are not realistic. I don't even celebrate appointments. I celebrate what the appointee achieves and castigate non-achievements. It does not make sense; we're so centered on achievements and what it leads to is corruption. Many of the so-called in technocrats had been total disappointments...

Very true...but from the comments on the thread, it is obvious Nigerians see appointments as part of the 'tribal war'.

The NAEC looks after and monitors all the nuclear equipment and institutes in Nigeria.

Like your X ray machine at your local hospital, for example...NAEC is the agency that keeps an eye on it, when it is installed and when it is decommissioned

And it has been around for decades.....

I think most countries have similar organizations..and they all fall under the International Atomic energy agency.

Politics is not the game of numbers. If I run a company and as its head at pay myself 1 million USD dollars a year and my 1000 workers a dollar a day. Who wields real power and has access to wealth?

Bear in mind the head of an any organisation controls the pay of others..

For your information, way back then like 10 years ago, I worked with a renowned professor who appraised so many into readership and professorship positions. So I can tell you that what he wrote was far from a CV. My boss would had scored him -5 in Academic Qualifications if he were to send this as his CV for appraisal.

Nigeria does not have refined uranium or plutonium. There are deposits, but there is no Nigerian know-how about refining the stuff, creating the equipment, or safely using it. Any and all of that was done by foreigners (in Nigeria). When China (with US and UK funding) transported out highly enriched uranium from a research reactor in Kaduna (2018), that was the last we had. And guess who refined it for us in the first place? Total Compagnie Minière.

Please show me Nigerian researchers building and refining nuclear anything, and I will take back my statement.
