Nigeria says it’s in talks with Egypt to explore areas where both countries can collaborate and boost power generation in the country.

Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, made this assertion during a visit of Ihab Awad, Egyptian ambassador to Nigeria, on Tuesday.

“You have mentioned how you have succeeded in solving the problem of power in Egypt.

Which is a very interesting development because as an ambassador to Nigeria you have been here for some time, you are aware of how we are facing this issue in this country,” Mr Aliyu said.

He said his ministry would discuss and set up a team that would come up with the key points and areas that the federal government can engage with the government of Egypt.

“You talked about the discussion which President Muhammadu Buhari had with Egypt President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi; this is very important, and that will help us.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is very concerned with the issue of power so will not relent.

We will meet to ensure you get some feedback from us,” the minister said.

Mr Awad told the minister that both parties agreed “there was a need for collaboration between your government and our country in the area of revitalising and renewing the power generation.”

Nigeria supplied power for Togo but Togo has a steady power supply and Nigeria has not.

Nigeria doesn't need a steady power supply.

It needs all its current leaders electrocuted with the isi cigar epileptic voltage it produces.

Nigerians buy more of the petroleum products we produce at a high rate and you think government will improve power supply to reduce sales of petrol , gas etc. especially now the world is turning away from crude oil for more sustainable forms of energy. This government don’t give af about youse!

Another audio promise. I thought Siemens did wonders in Egypt and so we decided to sign a power deal with them as well. What happened to our own power?

During the campaign in 2015, APC/Fashola boasted that power will improve significantly within 6 months if APC is voted in but 6 years down the line, power has gone from bad to worst. Sweet change...

I'd be happy if the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company is allowed to bid for and execute a PPP contract in a local government, area, or state for say 100 years.

As long as power results.

The problem is once they succeed, vultures will try to chase them and claim the project.

This people thinks we Nigerians are daft and dumb.

After the Arab spring protest. Egypt brought in SIEMENS OF GERMANY with multilateral financiers to build about 25,000MW something they did in less than 5 years.

If you need help, it's definitely not from Egypt.

This administration is dumb.

Imagine the effontry saying you will set up committed to collaborate with Egyptian... your power sector will never work with people like Atikuu being the owner of transmission. And other rent seeker owning discos.

I dont seem to understand the situation in this country. I heard we supply electricity to Benin Republic and we are still unable to supply for the whole Nigeria. Now if we partner Egypt, are we so sure it will be directed to our immediate needs or we still ant to share with Chad or Cameroun ?

Egypt, boost its power capacity from 22000 MW in 2010 to 59000 MW. Electricity delivery is not rocket science, it starts with having the right people at the helm, dividing the country into independent regional grids that can generate, transmit and distribute electricity in their own region.

CAIRO – 14 April 2021: In six years, Egypt has been able to jump 68 ranks in terms of electricity production from the 145th rank to the 77th, and that success is attributed to public investments directed at upgrade and expansion in the sector.

By December 17, 2020, Egypt's power generation capacity recorded 59,063 megawatts while that of the distribution networks hit 164,000 megavolt-ampere (MVA) rising by 12,560 MVA.

Speaking of 500/220 kilovolt (kV) switching substations, three of those were built in New Ismailiyah, Eastern Sohag, and October 500. In addition, an existing one in Beni Suef Industrial Zone was expanded. The total capacity of the four of them is 6,750 MVA.

As for 66/220 kV switching substations, 14 of those were introduced and expanded, while 30 11/66 kV others were built and enlarged. The total added capacity of the former is 4,280 MVA, while that of the latter is 1,530 MVA.

Don't mind the unserious people!
The Light Supply in Nigeria is a facade!
How can the Southern Nigeria of Lagos, Port Harcourt etc be supplying light, yet the Southern Cities don't have regular lights.
Those saying 'we have light's should state-- the States, the particular Area and the numbers of Hours they have Lights, for verification purposes!
We should know that if Ghana and Benin Republic don't use Generators, yet Nigeria, the Supplier of Lights- is 16 Millions Importers of these Generators, then we are done! We all need Deliverance!
Where do we go from here, because it is Fraudulent for Gemco and Discos to be collecting Darkness Bills Every Month, when you failed Nigerians by not having regular 24/7 Light! No Pre-paid Meters,as it just being frustrated by Pre-paid Rats in Discos Offices.
Past Govt were also involved in the debacle of Lights problems of today, not just the present govt,as they were indifferent!
No Industrialization without Lights.
Have you heard about Las Vegas in USA before- the City Of Lights? Here, it's 365-Days Lights- Day and Nights!
Very Shameful, Corruption will not kill us.
No lights in Nigeria at 21St Century!

I hope Buhari will not again say he needs to borrow another 5 trillion naira to fund this project. And I can bet one of my balls that he will include Niger Republic as a beneficiary. Transmission lines will be built to supply Niger Republic from this project.

He should kúkúma tell Nigerians that he has unofficially made Niger Republic - his country of origin - the 37th state of the federation. Such impeachcable and treasonable offence being freely committed by the Fulani president.

Buhari is an unrepentant borrower, a chronic debtor and impulsive imprudent.

Oga, calm down. Egypt brought in that company and it worked. Nigeria has brought in many companies and it didn't work. That is the area Egypt comes in. What made theirs work? Nigeria has partnered with Siemens, Tunisia, Germany, etc on this electric issue with no success. So, why?
We always forget the importance of administrative role in solving problems.

Nigeria will never ever grow. It is built solely to maintain One Nigeria. It is a shame.

Why is Nigerians electricity power supply epileptic. Or do they need dollar to bring its generation out. Why other countries don’t complain of power like we do.
