GreenOris: You have said it all. The population of Bandits are too many now and too close to the people that at times you can't even tell the difference. Maybe when military onslaught like this start, bandits can disarm and mix with the populace, when the onslaught stop, the go back to evil acts. This issue of bandits should have been fully attacked and dislodged a long time ago. 5 Likes |

Blueelf: From my own, if they want to reform the police. The least requirement into the force should be at HND, no OND no SSCE. When govt finish recruiting the required number of candidates and sent them for a long time training. When they are back, after like two weeks of real time training... The govt should convert all the police officers from rank of CP down to the least rank to civil defence officers(instead of disengaging them) Then after like a year or two, when the new recruit are familiar with the police structure, all the remaining senior officers should be dismissed. Not to forget that the staff of police service commission and ministry of police affairs need to all be reformed cos all of them play part in the corrupt system of the police. 1 Like 1 Share |

Rich4god: Even if you manage to win the court cases and political traps that will follow this, you will only end up sabotaging yourself as the workforce you will be doing away with will not go down without trying to fight back with everything they've got. I would instead advise that you employ law enforcement expatriates, who have served in leading positions in the law enforcement agencies of their countries of origin, with emphasis on internal affairs, then you start building up a new law enforcement agency with them but by bit, a few hundred recruits per year while also reducing the number the NPF recruits per year, significantly less than the number that will be retiring from the NPF per year. The short term mandate of the new law enforcement agency will be to investigate and prosecute crimes within the NPF, basically serving as internal affairs department for the NPF but outside of the NPF, the long term goal will be to replace the NPF in totality, it will take a long time but will cause less problems. And as the new law enforcement agency grows, they start getting involved in special operations and using the NPF manpower as muscles where needed, as they get more and more powerful and get more prestige, even high ranking officers in the NPF will be willing to cross over, the good ones among them can be scouted and then poached further reducing the manpower strength of the NPF. Even with this, the NPF will still come at you with everything they've got, bringing up several laws and acts that prevent any other agency from investigating them and all, they will fight you with the judiciary and the legislature. You can only achieve this if the other two arms are in support and are carried along. The legislature might be easy to get on your side, but the judiciary is of the same feathers as the police force. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Some act as if they've never traveled abroad. Such individuals may be surprised to learn that very many people have lost thire lives just for 10 dollars or less. There was a case in the UK whereby a man was stabbed to death for £2 or a little over, let alone labeling Nigerians deviant because a so called Mallam called another man a fool for returning a briefcase full of money. It is actually a warped kind of thinking to label an entire nation deviant because someone, possibly a Nigerian, in an "esteemed" position berated an individual, Nigerian, for returning a briefcase full of money but fails to see that it is also a Nigerian that returned said property. Nigerians based thire entire system on trust and react with bitterness when that trust is inevitably broken. The West build thire entire system informed by the understanding that humans are untrustworthy. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Odunayaw: Very few adults can be influenced against thire nature or and upbringing. The man that returned the case will act similarly next time in spite of the Mallam's opinions. I'm not a Muslim but I expect the Mallam wouldn't last long if he keeps advising young Muslims to steal. |

ONCE AGAIN, ISWAP DESTROYS HIGH TENSION TOWERS IN BORNO STATE More than Four high tension towers have been blown up by ISWAP along Auno, on the Maiduguri-Damaturu road. Sources indicate that more than four high tension towers that supplied electricity from Damaturu to Maiduguri were blown off again by suspected ISWAP men Friday night . The incident happened in Garin kuturu village which is about two kilometers away from Auno . Four towers are already on ground while the fifth ones is about to give way. Right now, restoration of electricity to Maiduguri the Borno state capital looks unlikely as a result of constant destruction of high tension cables that supply electricity to the state. |

Litmus:I want to believe this discourse is not for the sake of discourse It's very easy to influence people more so by an esteemed personality (Leader-Followers). Majority of men don't think for themselves. All of us are subtly incentivized to do things. My sister comes home from school one day and tells me of a particular boy that bullies her. I reply "and you did nothing and are reporting to me". Two days later my parents are summoned to her school. A pupil's uniform has been ripped. The hate in this thread is nauseous. You will be surprised that people that talk bad and evil of the dead can be so loving of someone who have not fed them or their family. You will be surprised that people glowing in that thread are people with parents and kids. This are people who will claim genocide if Nigerian Soldiers invade South East. Sometimes, it is not our village peoplebut we that being curses on our generation to come. Just yesterday, A student from MCA Uturu was killed in an attack at Ihube-Okigwe road by bandits but it is the policemen on patrol that deserves to be heartlessly murdered https://www.nairaland.com/6761094/policeman-shot-dead-checkpoint-onitsha 3 Likes |
