Whenever you want to do experiments such as this, be systematic.
..
If you went to a KFC outlet in Borno..
And then to KFC outlet in Rivers..
And you discovered this, then we can understand.
..
What if the Zero-tax you discovered inside the pictures you showed for Borno Was because the Hebron Foods pegged their own tax at Zero??

What are you even saying??
How do u peg tax at zero when the law is very clear on it?? Besides, kFC and Hebron operate same business and is expected to charge same thing in Nigeria where they both operate.

Calm down bro.

Some states tax systems isn't fully explored. They are lots of tax that you should pay that you aren't paying. For VAT on restaurants, be sure that Borno State IRS hasn't gone for those taxes. Their tax system is still being developed to fully collect all necessary and required tax. I know this because we are tax consultants to Borno State Government.

You might have to visit www. birs. bo. gov. ng to see the taxes that are automated at the moment. We are working on onboarding all taxes. But you should know they collect VAT but may not have started visiting restaurants.

If they have not automated or developed their tax system to capture and collect necessary vat, why share from those who did put in efforts to develope their collection system?

THEY ARE NOT PAYING VAT BECAUSE YOU'RE AN ILLITERATE WHO DON'T KNOW THAT FOODSTUFFS ARE EXEMPTED FROM VAT, THIS CLEARLY SHOWS THAT MOST SOUTHERNERS ARE SCAMMERS THEY'RE EXTORTING THEIR CUSTOMERS IN THE NAME OF VAT, NAIRALAND HANDLERS ARE ILLITERATES AND BIGOTS

You are an IDIOT not to know that foodstuffs are not sold in a restaurant.

You cannot do comparative analysis of two different entities where every other variables around the two entities are not kept equal as much as possible..
It is unscientific to do such..
You won't get reliable results.
...
That's my point.

You can dwell so much on the instances I gave (just for clarity sake).

The thing is quite painful. FIRS has been collecting this tax for eons now. Why do they tax people down south and don't tax people up north??

Not true. I am a vendor. To be competitive, I bear the VAT burden and I have no obligation to disclose it on the invoice. But monthly, I prepare the VAT schedule and forward same to the authority.

And please note, I'm based in Abuja

Oga I don’t need story about competition, I am telling you how VAT works legally. There are many things we do in Nigeria that we take as gospel that are actually wrong.

If the item you are charging is vatable then the law requires you show the VAT on the receipt. Because if you are providing a service or product to a business, that business should be able to deduct any VAT paid from its final VAT bill.

The truth with Nigeria is the VAT we administer in Nigeria is not True VAT but sales tax. True VAT you only pay tax on the the portion of the value you added. Or else a product can go through numerous intermediaries before it reaches the final consumer and each person will pay full VAT.

There is nothing scientific in VAT. The law is very clear on it. 7.5% tax on consumables such as this. One is collecting and the other is not. Nothing scientific to prove there

This is totally false. How many places did you visit to draw this conclusion. You went to Hebron only and you come online and start talking rubbish.
Haba!!
I stay in Maiduguri and this is false
This is how you people peddle lies online, even the mods didn't do any proper findings and it is already rocking the front page.
Did you visit Today's super store
Their vat is included, it shows on the receipt VAT included
Did you visit City Star Restaurant, the VAT is paid separately there.

Don't waste your time arguing with people that don't know anything! They are full of hatred and bitter, living a miserable life and want others to live the same

Op olodo...no VAT on selected basic food items. You must be a graduate without knowledge.

If you are knowledgeable, When you were charged in Portharcourt, you were supposed to know that they are doing the wrong thing in Rivers, while Borno doing the right thing.

The moderator that brought this to front page should be sacked.

I can see bandwagon comments too. Most just went to school, but zero knowledge clouded by tribalism and religion.

How can you abuse someone for having zero knowledge when you did not even address the issue. Did you even read through what you posted? A particular provision holds that the basic food items do not include food from eateries, restaurants and other listed places.
This simply means that customers would pay VAT for whatever they purchase.

It would still be proven to The World that companies (and Eateries too) pay their VAT in Borno.
(And also in Adamawa, Yobe, Kebbi, Taraba, Bauchi, And so on).
..
By then, this Hebron Foods will have to come out and explain to “The World” why they had not been paying their own VAT.

I don't care about your VAT whatever coz that has never put food to my table and will never do. You said you have eaten in all restaurants in Maiduguri, I challenge you to mention the restaurants and I will provide a receipt for everyone of them. And for your information there are many restaurants that deduct VAT here. I AM MORE CONCERN WITH YOU SAYING HEBRON IS THE BIGGEST RESTAURANT IN MAIDUGURI. THAT IS A BIG FAT LIE!

Yes. So far they are not processed. Once they are processed, VAT would be added. E.g Chicken.

That's why there's input and output VAT. The net represents tax on value added.

It clearly shows VAT are collected in Rivers, but not Borno and most other northern states. I have been to Adamawa, Yobe, Kebbi, Taraba, Bauchi and host of other northern states.

NOTE: I took the pics myself. First one is from Maiduguri, while the second is from portharcourt; and they re all from this month.

.maybe the tax is implicit (included in the cost of the food

Actually, the VAT is bundled into the cost of the product and the invoice shows nothing like taxes and makes it look competitive

Exactly. The tax can be built into the food cost with 'zero tax' appearing on the invoice to make it appear competitive. The vendor 'bears' the tax burden and pays from sales revenue

but it is always on the receipt Even in Abuja........ There is no excuse here.

The law does not specify it should be on the receipt. You sell goods and services that are vatable, you pay VAT based on the sale price, not on profit. So harder to hide

There could be several explanations for this. But truth be told, there are lots of things you can get away with in the core north that can't even be attempted in the south without being in trouble with law enforcement.
Most drivers in the north are not borthered about custom papers and driver license
