The overhyping of the USSR military might by the US sank into the former's head and started believing that they've arrived, thereby giving them arrival mentality.

The effect of hyping stirred them to increase their military budgetary spending which crippled their economy because other key sectors of productions were being starved. Their interest to boost production dwindled, thereby crippling their export capacity and you know the implication of that for any economy.

I still wonder why a military who's annual budget of more that the whole military budget of Russia, China, Japan, Germany, UK, France, South Korea and India can be said to be sleeping.

US is a country that thrive on research and be sure that they use the 'hyping theory' to blind and decimate the capability of their potential competitors while playing the 'sleeping gaint card'

With over 600 B-52, 160+ F-22, hundreds of F-35, Over 10 sophisticated Carriers (including CSG), hi-tech submarines etc. And some folks still believe this sleeping/victims card being played by the US.
