I've paid ₦7000 as duty from EMS to receive a device as small as a USB flash drive. EMS got crazy fees. After that day I vowed never to use EMS to ship anything to Nigeria. Next time have your friend hand it over to a trusted relative to bring down to Nigeria or use the services of third party shippers. EMS got crazy billing!

What does a custom bill looks like?? Does it come as a document or something??

Whose account are am i paying into, custom account or a personal account??

I just want to make sure that they are not extorting me.

Good morning gurus in the house,

I have the following challenges as regards aliexpress and I need your contributions

1) I cancelled an order shortly after I made payment and the order was closed by aliexpress and my refund has been reading processing for over a week now. I am worried, what can I do to fast track my refund as I feel it is taking too long.

2) Any time I make an order I discover extra money (usually less than N,1000) is deducted from my bank account that I cannot explain. Even when I have fully paid for the shipping, this money will still be removed.

I use GTB Naira mastercard for my transactions.

Good evening house! Please i need your help. A friend sent me a used Asus laptop from the US through EMS and on the 16th day of September 2021 i got a call from a guy that works at the post office in ABA informing me that i should come and pick up my parcel and also that custom billed me #18,000, then few hours later that same day i got another call from the same Post office this time the caller said he's the manager for EMS then he went ahead to ask me if I had received a call earlier and i said yes and the he said what did the person tell me, i told him the first caller said that my parcel is in their post office that i should come and collect it and also that custom billed me #18,000. Then the EMS manager now told me to disregard the previous caller, that the #18,000 is their own courier company service money, that custom billed me #54,000 he then went further to say that when I come to the post office he will give me the phone to speak with custom agent from Lagos.

I smell foul Play. I haven't gone there yet because I have being terribly sick but i intend to go there this week and I need your advice on how best to go about this.

What and what should I look at for to make sure the said EMS manager is not trying to extort money from me??

What does a custom bill looks like?

Please i will be very grateful if you all can assist me in any little way you can??

I can barely afford to pay the #18,000 not to talk of an additional #54,000.

Thanks i look forward to your responses.

NIPOST isn't doing well, I feel like lapping their unit tomorrow.
Can you imagine another of my item which was on transit arrived Nigeria before a NIPOST delivery?
If NIPOST was a serious organization that wants to generate more revenue, they are supposed to have a dedicated thread on nairaland.

AliExpress computes using a different exchange rate with the bank usually lower. The bank uses a different rate to convert which is slightly higher

Please I need your opinion or anyone else's.

I noticed that AliExpress prices are displayed in Naira. Years ago it used to be in USD.

Do you have an idea of what exchange rate they are using? From your response, it appears it is lower than that of a bank.

And is it possible to change the currency to USD on the website?

Thanks in anticipation.

No matter the currency conversion you will be charged in USD.

Also the USD equivalent is always shown alongside the Naira so no need to change anything as seen below.
What you is get the total order(Item + shipping fee if any) dollar rate and multiply with the exchange rate of the institution you would be using to make payments.

AliExpress uses the same Conversion which Google uses, which is a misrepresentation of our reality.

They may have refunded you without your bank giving you an SMS alert. Just to be sure, log into your bank app or web and check your account transaction history

Exercise some patience and let them update their record with your order tracking number.

I guess you are using the app. Dollar wasn't shown at all in browser (Chrome). Everything was in Naira.

They have not credited my account because I would have known because I have been checking constantly and I also don't keep money in the account. I only transfer money into the account whenever I want to make purchases.

The refund has not been made yet.

Speedaf only handles packages with tracking numbers that start with NG.

What does your tracking number look like?

Refund takes 3-20 business days depending on the bank. The information is right there when you click the Refund FAQ in your screenshot.

In some they'll give you an account to pay to. Others you just pay cash and get a receipt.

GTB charged me ₦460 and refunded ₦440...I guess the difference is the "cost of doing business with the bank"

Wait till the 20 business days is over and contact your bank if you didn't get the refund

The true customs billing may have been the 18k that the fisrt guy informed you about. Perhaps shortly after contacting you, he now informed the other lady that called you and the lady must have been mad with him for not inflating the price. So in order to justify a new price regime which is false by the way, she added the clause that you should disregard the first rate as their own rate and that the actual custom charges is 54k.

The 18k sounds more like the real charge and the 54k afterthought looks like an attempt to defraud you. They will simply remove the 18k for the customs and keep the rest. The customs guy she said you will speak with on the phone will be an arrangee guy at the other end of the line posing as customs officer.

I think you should demand that she provides you with an official breakdown of the customs fees before you do anything. UPS always forward the breakdown of custom charges to my email and gives 10 days payment window into their specified account.

It has been discussed in this link before. You will also see screenshots of the mails UPS sent to me on the breakdown of duty charges on my items.
