Unpopular opinion but Buhati actually has very little to do with the current security situation of this country. In fact the foundations were laid 30-40 years ago when successive military administration refused to fund the military due to the fear of coup. Even when democracy was restored, democratically elected presidents refused to do the right thing due to the same reason. In fact it is rumored that OBJ even wanted to downsize the military (imagine how a 50k Nigerian military in its current state would have coped today). Successive administrations allowed the military and paramilitaries to decay for several decades and we are only starting to see the consequences. In fact, the administration that made the most revenue was the worst for the military. In the late 90s and early 2000s,the mopo was the standard instrument for returning peace and stability to troubled zones and deployment time was very short,the police force was functional at that time and the judiciary was still somewhat effective even though these instruments of government were already in a state of rapid decline. Even in the heat of the niger-delta militants crisis, OBJ did very little for the military(he got 12 F7-NIs though and some other minor procurements). In the heat of the insurgency in the North East, GEJ was okay with the usurpation of funds sorely needed by the military. Mind you, the bamditry in the northwest was already gaining momentum since the time of OBJ, it started way before that time but it was still minimal.
And now we expect an incapacitated military to perform a great job with the crisis we are facing.
This doesn't exonerate Buhari from his failures and weaknesses Sha, he could have done a better job and alleviated the situation.

All well funded, well equipped militaries rarely abuse civillians or attempt at seizing power.
100% the case. Please do your research. If military is overthrowing civillian power, it is a banana republic and probably that country has 10 MBTs, 100 technicals and 5 Mig21 jets. When a military is fully resourced with professionals and fully equipped, they rarely show interest in politics.

And yes it is true, before the 3rd Republic and immediately after Abacha and the advent of the 4th Republic, ignorant people with intellectual pretensions would go on national TV and talk about comprehensive demobilization of the military. The prominent one I remember now is Falana but even the technocratic, ex World Bank set were also mouthing the nonsense. Demobilization of the Army to reduce numbers was also seen as the only way to raise finance for equipment.
Now with insurgency and terrorism, all that nonsense is dead. A rider to all these is that you should never allow intellectuals in government. They are too irresponsible and cannot see reality.

These are the things I've been advocating for all this while, I don't really know why it's that hard to achieve..

We don't need a wall, we can't even afford it but we can build a small fence or trenches just to make it hard for vehicles or motorcycles to cross easily which buys more time for the response unit. Secondly, building a wall will only radicalise the criminals and force them to learn and employ turnel strategies.

And the interesting thing part of it is that the northern border terrains are majorly flat terrain which makes it easy for the radars and cameras to capture a very long distance without obstruction like hills, mountains etc.

However, systems like this will not be suitable for detecting ambushes cos lack of elevation will reduce its ability.

The border surveillance project that was signed in 2019 still hasn't kicked off according to punch.

Gunmen on Tuesday allegedly invaded the palace of Emir of Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.

The gunmen, it was gathered, stormed the palace around 6pm.

DAILY POST gathered that the gunmen arrived on about 20 motorcycles, carrying three persons each, and shooting sporadically to scare residents of the area.

DAILY POST learnt that a lot of traders in the Kagara market abandoned thier goods and scampered for safety on hearing the sporadic gunshots.

A source said residents of the area have fled to the bush for safety to avoid either being kidnapped or killed by the armed gunmen.

“The armed men arrived on twenty motorcycles through the Madaka road from where the Kagara boys were kidnapped some months back, this evening. They attacked the Emir’s Palace and the Kagara market. People were running helter skelter for safety. We cried to the security agencies and they arrived to help us. Many have left their homes and taken refuge in the bush.

“The situation is bad now because of the network that has been jammed. We don’t know what is happening,” the source stated.

Our Correspondent also gathered that during the attack, the Emir of Kagara Alh Ahmed Garba Gunna Attahiru II was not in the palace as he had been away from the town for a while.

Efforts to get the reaction of the Chairman of Rafi LGA, Alh Ismaila Danmodibo, failed as he could not be reached.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Wasiu Abiodun, promised to get back to our reporter on the matter.

BREAKING!!! Unknown Gunmen Storm Kogi State University, Kidnap Faculty Dean

Unknown gunmen have kidnapped Professor John Alabi, a lecturer at the Kogi State University, Ayingba, Igbere TV has learnt.

He was kidnapped on Monday at about 6pm when he was about to enter his house.

It was gathered that the Professor, who is the current Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences at the Kogi State University, was accosted by the armed men with a Mercedes Benz and whisked him away to an unknown destination.

A family member told journalists that the abductors have contacted the family and the management of Kogi State University.

The source added that they called Prof Alabi’s wife and demanded N20million.

“The kidnappers ambushed Prof. Alabi with a Mercedez Benz car when he was about to enter his residence. They wanted to take him away with his car, but due to the bad portion where they forced him to park his car, they could not. The car was stuck. That was why they forced him into their own car.

“When they called the wife, they told her that her husband was with them. And if she wants to see her husband alive, the family should pay the sum of N20million. Immediately, the wife started crying because the family can’t afford such amount of money” the source said.

Why will both services be occupied with less serious issues as border protection/monitoring when there are serious jobs like raiding markets in search of foreign rice, foreign salts etc or collecting egunjes at airports and other entry points to be done. oga find fact before you post any fisherman in that iswap base is a terrosit . Iswap will never allow citizen come close to their base because of them giving out information to the military. Fisherman going to fish in the middle of the night abi
