I'm respecting the dead people, so I no want make their faces show for the pic.

Those are people killed by Fulanis in Southern Kaduna.

The military that is suppose to protect them are busy showing their gallantry against armless civilians in Abuja.

About 6 people have reportedly been shot dead as members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN clashed with security agents at the Gwarimpa gate near Galadimawa in Abuja on Tuesday.

The IMN members also known as 'shiites 'were about to round off their Arbaeen Symbolic Trek when joint security agents opened fire on them.

POLITICS NIGERIA also learned that two Shiite members were shot by security operatives around a new generation bank along 3rd Avenue in Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja.

The incident threw the trek into confusion as people scampered for safety. The Secretary of the Academic Forum of IMN, Abdullahi Musa has since confirmed the incident.

“They are just shooting people. As I am talking to you now, six people have been killed. They even carried some dead bodies away,” he told a news correspondent.

Members of the sect had on Tuesday morning come out in continuation of their procession to mark the fortieth day of the murder of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.

Many people were injured in a violent clash between the members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as Shiite, and the police on Monday. According to the saharareporters, Channels TV journalist was among the casualties as he was shot and rushed to the hospital.

The group clashed with the police at the federal secretariat during a protest to compel the Federal Government to release it’s their leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.

The protest, which began from NITEL junction at Wuse 2, was disrupted by armed policemen who had cordoned off the road leading to the National Assembly and three arms zone.

Those injured were looking lifeless when our correspondent visited the scene on Monday. Live ammunition was fired at the protesters as they advanced toward the Eagle Square leading to commotion and pandemonium in the area.

Is just going to a total waste of money and they won't even achieve the objectives of why is been constructed.

Some communities that span between Nigeria and other west African countries will even oppose the construction of fence to divide their communities.

For me, Nigeria needs to worry about Nigeria and make as much demarcations as possible between Nigeria and neighbouring Nations. Nigeria also needs to build these fences and barriers where possible and relevant regardless of America and the efficacy of their walls. Walls may be useless around American schools, colleges or higher institutions but useful incorporations into the design of new schools, collages and places of higher institution in NE Nigeria. Pakistan is happy with their border fences, walls etc as is Israel. The measure of US migrant wall, besides, isn’t preventing increasing number of nations adopting same measure, what makes us smarter than them?

Do you remember GEJ National Conference, when a king in Adamawa state threaten he is going to leave Nigeria and merge with his people in Cameroon? Can't really remember the story again.

The man kingdom stretch all the way from Nigeria to Cameroon but was split between Nigeria and Cameron by the Europeans. What kind of explanation will you give such a man about erecting a fence in his community?

Such a proposal won't get funding, it will be buried in the NA.

If we say a Fence was built in Pakistan and the USA, you have to understand that, Nigeria is not the USA or Pakistan.

Such a proposal won't be accepted all over Nigeria.

Not supporting the idea of a border wall, but the truth is that in running a country like Nigeria, you will only be stupid to hope to satisfy everyone, sometimes the right thing will hurt people and not doing that thing will hurt many more people. This was reported 10am today, it wasn't a protest it was a riot, there are pictures of dead members of IMN with catapults and sticks. Nonetheless the government should stop using the military against civilians, it is the job of the police force and other law enforcement agencies, they should be provided with non lethal weapons for cases like this.

It's a sad thing what is happening in the northern part of this country but the truth is it may continue for a long time unless there is a huge investment in the Army by the next administration, the army alone getting $2-3billion for massive procurement. We cannot hope to see meaningful progress with the way we are fighting small arms with small arms where the enemies have a far greater number and are very fluid(this moment they are bandits and terrorists the next moment they are harmless citizens). In all honesty, the airforce has really tried a lot but there is need for strong boots on the ground. The attack on the camp in Sokoto started with one of the bandit leaders relocating his base from zamfara to another forest in Sokoto as a result of constant air harassment, he then decided to clear military presence around his new base and unfortunately there was a weak base close by. If enough resources is provided for the Army, and junior officers/non commissioned officers are given a free reign, I'm very sure that they will go after the bandits and terrorists anywhere they might be. Ordinary artilleries in reasonable numbers and spotting equipment(ISR) will prevent the bandits from forming up in meaningful numbers. IFVs, AFVs, MRAPs, tanks, recovery vehicles and so on are among the equipment needed in reasonable quantities.
Also the Army has shifted strategy from launching attacks from well constructed and defended barracks to having military camps littering conflict zones across the country, unfortunately they do not have good base defense doctrines and strategies, in fact they are extremely poor at this and while they should consider training troops on it as a long term plan, the short term plan is for them to be ready to spend meaningful resources on base construction. If they lack the skills they should employ the services of private contractors to help with it while army engineers learn and steadily acquire the required skills and equipments.

I agree with this 100%

Brother, it is not always so, many civilians are living under the rule of the terrorists in terrorists controlled communities, it is harsh and brutal for them too but the alternative is simply something they can't bear. Ask SamuelAnyawu how life in the IDP camps is. Many are simply captives and forced labor for the terrorists who can't escape the terrorists captivity. However, it is folly not to expect civilian casualties in a war such as this. In fact the airforce has been very careful about it and that's why we are not having the numbers Syria, Libya and other active war zones are recording. It is a known fact that many of these terrorists and other non-state actors use human shields as a means of avoiding airstrikes and artilleries.

Y'all want a fence so that Gen. Buhari can get more worried about his cousins in Niger?

On a serious note, we need some sort of border control. Trawl through Twitter every week and you'll form a mental picture of supposedly vast unmonitored border crossings between Nigeria and countries bordering us. Its actually worse than the media reports and solutions are needed ASAP.

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 57 suspected members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shi’ites who stormed the Gwarinpa area of the nation’s capital on Tuesday morning.

DAILY POST had reported that the Shi’ites who staged the Arbaeen trek on 3rd Avenue, Gwarinpa district of Abuja kept commuters stranded blocking roads and triggering panic and tension in the area.

Armed security men were reported to have also shot sporadically to dispersed the protesters causing residents to scamper for safety.

A statement forwarded to DAILY POST by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adeh Josephine, revealed that the joint security operatives have restored normalcy to the area.

However, contrary to earlier reports, the Police PRO, in a statement, said there was no casualty recorded during the incident, stressing that the security team were able to foil attacks launched on them.

She said items recovered from the suspects include, a vehicle, flags, petrol bombs, weapons, mobile phones, charms and other exhibits.

The statement reads, “The FCT Police Command in a joint intervention with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies have restored normalcy to the Gwarinpa area of the FCT and other parts of the Capital where miscreants identified to be members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites, caused unnecessary hardship to motorists and other road users as well as individuals going about their businesses.

The miscreants who were found in their numbers were promptly intercepted by the security operatives and dispersed to prevent them from causing further disruption of public order and peace and damage to public and private assets.

“The miscreants attacked the security forces with petrol bombs, weapons including stones but were adequately rounded up by the security teams without any casualty.

“A total of fifty-seven (57) suspects including thirty-nine (39) and eighteen female (18) were arrested and currently being profiled at the State Criminal Investigations Department of the FCT Police Command.

I believe we will be hearing more of this in the not too distant future. The problems and the weak spot in our security architecture are being discussed daily and as we see the most fundamental ones being solved, the other ones will start receiving the spotlight they deserve. Not too long ago, the airforce couldn't boast of 20 aircrafts being operational in their inventory, today, most of their capability gaps are being plugged with solid plans to take care of the rest. Only recently we heard about plans for an alternative funding for the Navy and maritime security receiving support in the national assembly. It is only a matter of time.

This is part of the police incompetence we are talking about, why deny the obvious when you have good cause to justify it? And it will amaze you that many in the police force are actually very educated. It is just as if they don't reward competence in that agency.

Botched Nigeria air strike kills many fishermen – report

Nigerian bombardment of Kwatar Daban Masara in the country's northeast leaves 20 fishermen dead, AFP news agency reports, citing local sources.

At least 20 fishermen have been killed accidently after Nigeria's military targeted a militant camp in the country's northeast, two security sources and locals told the AFP news agency.

A Nigerian fighter jet early on Sunday bombarded Kwatar Daban Masara in Lake Chad, which straddles Nigeria and neighbouring Niger, Chad and Cameroon, the sources said on Monday.

The area is a bastion for the Daesh-affiliated Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The reports of casualties came less than two weeks after officials say another air strike on a village killed nine civilians in Nigeria's northeast where the military is battling a 12-year militant insurgency.

Influx of fisherman

ISWAP recently lifted a ban on fishermen in its territory, allowing them to move in and fish in the freshwater lake for a fee. That led to an influx of fisherman who had abandoned the area.

"Any fisherman that goes to that area does so at his own risk because it is an enemy territory and there is no way of differentiating them from the terrorists," one local intelligence source said.

"From the information we have been receiving the death toll is much higher than 20."

Local fisherman Labo Sani told AFP by telephone that the jet strike hit Kwatar Daban Masara at around 6 am (0500 GMT), killing around 20 fishermen.

Kwatar Daban Masara which is on the shores of the lake is the "gateway to ISWAP's camps on several islands" and a supply route for the militants said Sani from nearby Daban Masara.

Another fisherman, Sallau Arzika, said the fighter jet struck the village "killing many of our people who are there for fishing".

"The initial death toll was around 20, but the figure has been increasing with the deaths of many of the injured," Arzika said.

News of the incident was slow the emerge due to limited telecommunications in the region.

A Nigerian air force spokesman did not immediately respond to a message seeking confirmation or comment.

The intelligence source who works with anti-militant militia in the region said the strike was based on "credible information" of a gathering of ISWAP fighters in the village since Wednesday.

He said aerial surveillance and reports from other sources revealed militants were amassing in Kwatar Daban Masara and it was obvious they were planning an attack, the source said.

'Preemptive strike'

According to another security source, the village was subjected to surveillance in the past 10 days after scores of men suspected to be foreign fighters arrived in several vehicles and were ferried to camps inside the lake.

"It was a preemptive strike to destroy whatever plans the terrorists were making," said the security source.

"You don't expect an innocent civilian to be at that location and whoever is found is certainly part of the terrorists," he said.

Unpopular opinion but Buhati actually has very little to do with the current security situation of this country. In fact the foundations were laid 30-40 years ago when successive military administration refused to fund the military due to the fear of coup. Even when democracy was restored, democratically elected presidents refused to do the right thing due to the same reason. In fact it is rumored that OBJ even wanted to downsize the military (imagine how a 50k Nigerian military in its current state would have coped today). Successive administrations allowed the military and paramilitaries to decay for several decades and we are only starting to see the consequences. In fact, the administration that made the most revenue was the worst for the military. In the late 90s and early 2000s,the mopo was the standard instrument for returning peace and stability to troubled zones and deployment time was very short, the police force was functional at that time and the judiciary was still somewhat effective even though these instruments of government were already in a state of rapid decline. Even in the heat of the niger-delta militants crisis, OBJ did very little for the military(he got 12 F7-NIs though and some other minor procurements). In the heat of the insurgency in the North East, GEJ was okay with the usurpation of funds sorely needed by the military. Mind you, the bamditry in the northwest was already gaining momentum since the time of OBJ, it started way before that time but it was still minimal.
And now we expect an incapacitated military to perform a great job with the crisis we are facing.
This doesn't exonerate Buhari from his failures and weaknesses Sha, he could have done a better job and alleviated the situation.

I stumbled upon something just now and all I can say is that the Army is actually very lazy when it comes to being concerned about the lives of its troops. There are sensors that will detect ambushes kilometers away, military bases can be aware of approaching enemies several kilometers away without anyone leaving the base.
