My friend just told me that Honda accord doesn't recover from gear problems. I don't know how true is this. He sold his car due to frequent gear wahala. |

@luvinhubby, My rewire says my car doesn't use upstream O2 sensor. It only has one as fitted from the factory. He is the second rewire to say this. Could this be true? 2003 Honda Accord V4 engine |

nagoya2: I love the civic. Keep in mind the Honda civic were design to be a low maintenance car from the start..... I had issues with the transmissions in the past.. But once I was able to pass it . I was home sweet home. The engine are almost bullet proof . they can take alot of abuse, but the transmission can't it .. It is a most you use the rite transmission fluid ....... By the way how did you come about the moniker Nagoya ? Did u visit or leaved in Japan ? |

dru23:I have a Honda Civic 03. Engine is top notch. Transmission jerks when switching and after a long drive(from Lagos to IB) i need to press the accelerator really hard to reverse.. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by dru23(m): 5:18pm On Oct 02, 2021 |
justifiedcoyy: I hope you are using the recommended Transmissions fluid for it ..... The engine can take abuse, but the transmission will not tolerate it . it will end in premium tears.. Below is the recommended ATF Since I don't want you to waste your hard earn money by telling you to replace the transmission. The issue you are having might just be simple .... It might be your transmission solenoid is dirty, weak , damage or better it needs total replacement. A mechanic will simply tell you to replace the transmission, rather than check the solenoid... I have recommended mechanics in the past. For peace of mind and integrity I don't do it anymore.... This is why I always preach to car owners to always use the correct fluids in their cars . And to avoid short cuts...... I wish you the best of luck in finding the solution 1 Like

dru23: Both engine and transmission are bullet proof.. Infact the transmission is more bullet proof than engine. I have driven my 08 civic twice without a drop of oil. Transmission still moves and select fine (4 yrs counting) Mind you I use oandon dextron 2 since I got the car. Gear switches like time seconds hand. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by dru23(m): 5:47pm On Oct 02, 2021 |
Rumundele: Lack of maintenance......don't blame the car, blame the owner..... On the Benz thread a new car owner was complaining that his TOKUNBO Benz was making weird noises after oil change . She stated that the car was not like that before. And the mechanic use 20w50 oil on a 2013 Benz ........ So plz don't blame the car |

Structuralman: Is your model the one with a SULEV engine? Those are the ones with two sensors. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Structuralman: 6:43pm On Oct 02, 2021 |
Conner44: I don't know if mine is SULEV engine. So you mean that some engines come with only one sensor? |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Structuralman: 7:00pm On Oct 02, 2021 |
Conner44: I just checked, it's a SULEV engine. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 9:50pm On Oct 02, 2021 |
Structuralman: Can I ask how you know for sure that it’s a sulev engine? The sulevs are supposed to have an extra o2 sensor and a different type of catalyst. |

Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 7:33am On Oct 03, 2021 |
Structuralman: Okay that’s settled. If you haven’t changed the brain box of the car before then you should be having emissions malfunction codes if you’re driving with only one sensor. There should be the AF sensor on your exhaust manifold and the O2 sensor at the catalyst part of your exhaust pipe. Have you scanned the car already? Which of the sensors is missing? |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 7:36am On Oct 03, 2021 |
Bigsunny01: Did you acquire it as a Nigerian used or tokumbo? If it’s Nigeria used then follow your mechanics suggestion but if it’s tokumbo then use a good oil with the 5w30 weight for it. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Structuralman: 8:19am On Oct 03, 2021 |
Conner44: The 02 sensor on the catalyst part is present but the rewire said the socket under the drivers seat is missing. Will scan the car for missing sensors (Like AF sensor) when I come back from church. Yesterday's scan threw codes P0135 and P141. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 8:49am On Oct 03, 2021 |
Structuralman: If you look behind your engine, at the part facing the firewall you’d see a metal covering over your exhaust manifold. Your AF sensor is under that pan. If you have a space on your O2 sensor socket and a sensor plugged in but with nowhere to link it to under your front passenger seat then I believe that part of your harness is either hidden (wires bent back/way from where it’s supposed to pop out from) or lost (cut off by a prior auto electrician). So try to go under your passenger seat with a flashlight and a flat screwdriver, push your passenger seat all the way forward, loosen the single plastic floor carpet fastener, pull back the carpet and look around very carefully. The main harness port where you are supposed to plug in your O2 sensor runs from under that chair towards the handbrake/gear lever part of your car and then straight ahead to the brain box. You can try doing the checking at night when your eyes can focus well with your flashlight. You would see the plug for your present O2 sensor dangling somewhere under there then look around for the main harness port. Go on YouTube and watch how to plug in the sensor for your car and you’d see everything you need to know. 2 Likes |

I have changed the recommended ATF but still same story. The mechanic told me to replace gear exchanger, he was pointing at something in the engine enclosure with red and black cable plug, when i ask what is gear exchanger. My car still kick when you engage gear to drive. Guru in the house, do you think the exchanger is the problem? How do i get a good gear exchanger, and how much it will cost me to get in PH. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 10:07am On Oct 03, 2021 |
Structuralman: First Pic is the location of your IAT sensor. Second is the scan codes description Third and fourth are your components locations.

Rumundele: Snap the gear exchanger so we understand your mech better. |

Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Structuralman: 11:36am On Oct 03, 2021 |
Conner44: There is no issue with my IAT sensor which you encircled in red. Could you please send me a pictorial location as you did above of my upstream O2 sensor? |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 12:13pm On Oct 03, 2021 |
Structuralman: Sorry I meant AF ratio sensor. According to your scan codes PO135 and PO141 you have a general malfunction with both your AF and O2 sensors. They might both be linked together meaning fix one issue and the other issue goes away. Maybe if you plug your O2 sensor back the code for your AF sensor will go away
|
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Structuralman: 12:26pm On Oct 03, 2021 |
@conner44 So to conclude...the encircled in red is AF sensor right?
|
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 1:00pm On Oct 03, 2021 |
Structuralman: Yes. Check if it’s wiring is loose. If it’s firm then either the sensor itself is bad or your codes are O2 sensor related. |
