When did he claim to be of modest means

Do you know how much he inherited from his parents

Go and study Peter Obi well, he was a billionaire even before he became Governor

He doesn't just flaunt it

Leave zombie work and work hard so your daughter will also have billions registered in her name.

But you won't be saying this if it's the daughter of Tinubu.

This is absolute rubbish written to defend Obi.
On tax evasion, I agree that there is nothing wrong in investing in countries that permit you to pay little or no tax.
But on Obi's lack of transparency in NOT declaring his investments in such countries outside Nigeria (while attempting to serve / while serving in public office), he is absolutely wrong!
If Obi did not have anything to hide & he truly wanted to serve the people transparently, why will he keep such secrets?
I will continue to say it, Nigerians are the most evil set of human beings God created, they always find justification for EVERY WRONGDOING humans are capable of doing.

just as mr integrity is transparently serving the country? After so much fuss about him and integrity? I have nothing against anyone, so long as corruption is concerned, but my problem remains, who are those criticising obi ? Tinubu supporter's, those who believe that if Tinubu can't get it,let Osinbajo have it, they are my problem and they are in majority of those criticising obi, we are not ready to build a country for our generation unborn, when a particular people believe that only their people are qualified to be president. Oga are my fuss .

Lol! One who is indicted internationally. Lol. Have you ever heard that Gen Danjuma holds an international position? Lol. Damjuma was a strong military man ooo. Even, OBJ avoided him during his second tenure cos he has been indicted internationally. Have you ever heard that IBB was called for an international event or submit after he left power? Think Think Think. Lol. But look at Jonathan Goodluck. And look at Abdulsalami Abubarkar. Lol.

Peter, the son of Obi has been indicted too. So, you dont know what you are talking about. Lol. Continue maturbating on it and be defending that fraud. Peter is a goner. His political dynasty is over. The mistake anyone can make is to get involved in Carribbean and those Island business abrakatabra. They can be made legit for frauds cos those nations need money, but listen, it is a trap. I'm sure people like Ngozi saved Jonathan from that error. If not, Dezeani would have dragged Jonathan along in the mess. Look at Dezeani today, and the other oil guy called Babajide. Yes, Dezeani was smart and cannot be prosecuted easily but she is in the bad record for life.

Is Barrack Obama into such investment? Is Biden into it? Even the Bully Trump knows it is a No. I know it is tax avoidance...lol..but then, that was a trap for fraudulent people. That's the route of fraud. Lol. And Peter couldn't resist it cos fraud is in his blood. He went the way cos he felt he was smart, not knowing it was a trap. grin

And he is telling lies he doesnt know he has to declare all his assets. Hahahaha. How can he declare such investment? He knew it was not that clean and people would frown at it. If you call yourself a public office holder running for the topest job in the nation, how can you try to avoid paying tax even legally? That's a bad sign. Lol. Only fraudulent people do it. Good people fight it legally in their nation. When you are ambitious to position yourself for the number 1 job of Nigeria or any of her states, you must run away from some so called "clean and legal" investments. Every clean politicians knows that. Only frauds do it.

Peter, the son of Obi is a fraud. Deal with it.

Yes, you may say modest lifestyle, conservative spending. That does not dispute the fact the man is wealthy.

It then goes back to the question of why he didn't declare all his assets before entering office.

This hired hand - Herbert tried to twist the law on its head. Tax evasion is an intentional act planned out not to disclose the person’s worth and to hide assets that are subject to tax. What Obi did is intentional and all the talk that he owned the assets jointly is balderdash. The assets are owned 100% by him and again intentionally added his children and wife to further hide the true owner. Everything he did and others like him were intentionally done.

The Pandora Papers: How the world of offshore finance is still flourishing | Four Corners

For months, more than 600 journalists from around the world, including the ABC, the Washington Post and the BBC, have been working with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists on this top-secret investigation.

One of the biggest data leaks in history, the papers reveal how the wealthy and powerful are continuing to use offshore tax havens to hide their ownership of assets and stash their cash - despite attempts to rein the industry in.

On April 4, 2016, PREMIUM TIMES published details of the offshore assets Mr Saraki and his wife, Toyin, concealed in offshore tax heavens as part of the Panama Papers collaborative investigation.

The revelations coincided with the false assets declaration trial of the senator at the Code of Conduct Bureau in Abuja, but the charges were largely about his local assets and some foreign bank accounts because authorities had not uncovered his offshore shell companies.

It would be irrational to expose assets that are partly owned by other individuals, when they are not the ones occupying the public office in question. Some business investors actually prefer to invest quietly, hence, a declaration of their jointly owned assets breach that business trust which they expect from their business partners. The otherwise could amount to a breach of the right to privacy and quiet enjoyment of the property of these individuals.

Everyone likes to defend their thief and even terrorist.
Peter Obi ought to have declared his assets in the jointly owned venture.
No one told him to declare that of others - simple!

Most young people wonder why Nigeria is in this terrible state it is, well this is one of the reasons right here.

I mean we all complain why we don't have good leaders, why our leaders keep taking us for granted with impunity ; but then we forget we are the ones who empower and encourage them to do so.

I understand the author of this article claimed he's trying to fact check the Peter Obi's alleged corruption against the law, but what he doesn't know is that he has given an easy way out for the man to wriggle himself out of this mess he presently found himself and has even encouraged more politicians like Peter Obi to do this same thing and get away with it.

Nobody accused Peter Obi of being a thief years after his tenure expired as a governor probably because he had all his flanks covered and even kept on boasting about his clean and impeccable records up till this moment that the Pandora papers actually revealed he's not as clean as he claimed to be. Now a lawyer boldly coming out to start explaining tax law just to prove that the man might have done one or two things to help himself to make some money against the "Mr integrity" picture he was selling to us all ; it just looks somehow.

Later we will all be complaining why People like Tinubu and Odili got perpetual injunction prohibing the authorities from trying them for allegations bothering on financial misappropriation if their hands are actually clean; we will complain why EFCC didn't go after Tinubu after the bullion van episode; we will complain why Orji Uzor Kalu is a free man today walking up and down Nigeria on political visits despite what he did with Abia state's funds through Slok...... What we fail to understand is that people like this author that are smart and young will always be there to offer their "professional views" and claim to be fact checking when in fact they are emboldening future politicians to even do worse Than the present.

Don’t be sentimental, in the pursuit for a better society, justice must be upheld. If Obi is guilty, he should be prosecuted, howbeit, the accusations leveled against him have been proven to be what it is, a false accusation. Should he be stoned therefore because we are trying to make the society a better place? Absolutely not! That will be another height of injustice which is what we don’t want and the Op here has done some work to enable those of us who are not specialized in legal matters to have more knowledge.

Of course we all know where this is coming from and as it is with most Nigerians, they lack knowledge yet make the loudest noise (no insult intended please), so they are easily fooled by the media.

Of course we also know those obvious thieves among us too.

no, people don't go to jail for opening businesses in other countries irrespective of the countries' tax laws. Every known billionaire has businesses registered in countries with low tax rates, many companies that you and I know have their headquarters in countries with lower tax rates.

Even in the USA well known billionaires including their immediate past president, take advantage of different tax avoidance measures inorder to pay less taxes, it is not a crime in any part of the world to reduce the amount of tax you pay long as you didn't commit any crime in the process.

Some of you need to read some journals on businesses. It's not surprising for someone to have an account or a business in a different country.

If you let the taxman, he'll take 100% of your income, it's your job as a smart business man to pay as little tax as possible within the boundaries of the law.

Naso. First of all Peter obi admitted to some of the offense of not he committed of not listing all is companies when asked when he became the governor which is a crime but na Nigeria na anything goes since even the president is culpable while will the governor's own be different . Some countries are the moment are already investigating like Australia and some other sane countries that if any government officials is found guilty will be punished by law but here will support criminals because he's our brother or we're of same belief. From the off, it could be easily deduced that u were out to defend Mr Obi (and in this clime, one can to some reasonable degree infer that you are defending him because your pocket has been shamelessly greased or you hope it will be).
One fact that loathes me about this your endeavor is the feeling I get that you are trying to play smart on the populace. You might have assumed that the general public are not smart enough and doesn't have stamina to read through long stuffs. You stated 3 areas were Mr Adebayo have stated Mr Obi contravened the law, however, you ended up defending to the hilt the first 2 but so ominously and conspicuously left out the last one. How do you defend his not resigning from being the director of his company for well over a year? And, it is clear that mr Adebayo got his information from the work of those reputable, international body of Journalists that have worked tirelessly and in a commendable way for years to catalogue this revelation called Pandora...
Shame on your type that are very loyal to coins but unpatriotic to their lands.
