Hi Guys,

Please I need sincere and candid opinions. I resumed duty as an operation executive recently with an Edu-training company. Be then, I had interviewed for a Store manager job in an hotel on the Island 3 months back. I was supposed to start the store manager job but they didn't get back to me anymore. I reached out to the HR and she said her boss is not saying anything. I had to move on. Now that I just resumed this operations job, they reached out to me and even increased the initial offer. Their reason for delaying was because they were renovating.

My Dilemma: After struggling so much with myself I stupidly approached the HR of my Operations Job this morning to let her know about the development. She asked that if they increased my salary whether I will stay. She offered 90k and I asked them to push to 100k that I would. She relayed every details of our conversation with the owners of the business and they were like I used them as a backup and today should be my last day. However, the husband came back to say I should spend my 2 weeks notice while they get a replacement.

Meanwhile, before the operation's job, I got a Customer Support Specialist role for the same 70k ( and now they are still reaching out to me on a new offer of 100k), I chose the Operation job over it for so many reasons but primarily because I was bonding with my new team very well and liked it there. 3 months later, the hotel is reaching out to me with a basic of 120k, free lunch, transport allowance, data allowance and HMO.

I feel terrible right now. My Mind is with the Edu-training but my body is with the hotel. Please advise.

Quick-one, I asked the HR If they will reconsider their decision If i decide to stay and her response was that they will think about it.

lol you are funny
Go where your body wants you to go
but the 70k job give the first person that tells you he or she is Jobless

With Edu-training you will meet children from rich background as well as parents. You will like the work environment and the likes, but what will be gain knowledge wise?

You can copies of their scheme of work/syllabus. Established contacts with some education departments if the opportunity arise. But keep note maximum of 10 years work span after that probability of you being relevant with that organisation will be less than 25%, reason is by then they prefer having their children as administering the institutions and your age by then will be an issue for their young family blood. You will meet great and brilliant individuals but after a while you will realise your stagnant. In few years those you trained would have become managers or professionals in their chosen field but you be happy that impact knowledge, albeit poor or not too good financial standing. Some of the trainees may never reckon with because they will feel they pay for your service

The hotel job will give you wider experience and the pay is better. You can kill start a better career in the hospitality industry and hotel management. Like you can use that same store keeping experience to move to a multi-national manufacturing company as a store keeper.

For prosperity sake your boss is never your friend. In your workplace you keep only official friends. Divulging your personal information to your HR who is your boss no matter the hierarchy will make you vulnerable.

Note all the jobs you mentioned are more of a one man business hence the need to plan your stay for not too long as a work place.

Everything depends on your future ambition and life style choice. Appraise each opportunity, job security if any and pray for God guidance.

Best of luck

This really depends:

Edu training operations executive might be better for long term growth.

Store manager job may have more opportunities to make money, more responsibility, path for growth if it is a big company (which it doesn't seem to be).

Could you land Business Manager of a top school through the edu training job? Working for an NGO? Opportunities to get trained yourself?

Whatever you choose, you have to cancel the edu job. Even if they agree to take you back, just know that you're now staying on their terms. They will have all the power and they will know it and use that knowledge.

If you're choosing the edu job, get ready to be frustrated out of that job.

Take the hotel job sharp-sharp.

Your stay at your present job especially future isn't guaranteed. They will bear a grudge against you which may limit promotions, even if they keep you.

You see that your operations job you are currently on ern, its a ticking bomb. You goofed already by giving them too much disclosure. Nigerians are generally very vindictive and they will pretend to want you up until they are sure u have lost all the other job offers then they will relieve you of the job. Move on already and I think you should go for the hotel job which it seems your mind is with already. Reason is to avoid feelings of regrets later. The mind is a tricky thing. You may take the other job only for your mind to not be in it and regretting at any sign of trouble. All in all sha, pray over it. You are the one gonna be wearing the shoes so...

To me I would like you to go for the hotel job because from your write up it seems that the edu-traning people are not sincere. If you've not gotten the second offer and inform them they wouldn't have increased your pay.

Just follow your mind if getting more knowledge in your present work is all you need now

Then, if getting money is your present priorities go for the one with the bigger package

In all, consider the present economic situation and the responsibilities ahead of you

Hello Op,

Staying on your current job is dangerous as your loyalty to your present employer is already in doubt. Next time, don't give all details of event especially to HRs.

I will suggest you go for the Store Manager role. Below are my reasons:

1. You can make a career from the role. If you're doing this, I will suggest you enrol for a professional certificate in Supply Chain Management (CIPS) while you plan your exit outta the hospitality industry (hotel). With your professional certificate, I can guarantee you of better pay and secured role as a store manager or any of the roles in Supply Chain. Hotel is not the place you should stay for more than a year, you only need to stay there to boost your CV and acquire job knowledge

2. What structure is in place in the Educational training organisation? What's their staff strength? What's their client base like? I believe an hotel with HMO and other bonuses you mentioned is structured to an extent but can't say that about the educational institution considering the way many of them sprout out this season.

3. You need the money!

That is not correct. From store manager, he can build a career in inventory and supply chain management. The opportunities in this sector are limitless, globally.

Depends!

1. Which job makes you fulfilled.
2. Which job comes with self-improvement.
3. If your goal is money, which one pays the most? Before you choose one, consider distance, stress/ effort, & environment. Some will change jobs because of N10000 salary increase, even when they will spend twice as much on fare.
4. Which of the jobs can you set up on your own after learning it well.
5. Which one offers you a future, be it short time or long term?

Actually the main goal is to JAPA...I really don't have a long term goal in Nigeria.
