Majority will support NYSC because of the stipend they are being paid. I've seen those who are not qualified because of their age doing all sort of things just to go to NYSC.

Since unemployment abound in Nigeria, NYSC will afford some people the opportunity to earn for the main time. It's only people who are well to do, but very few will want the program scrapped.
Who the hell go to NYSC because of 30k? How many days can such amount take them?

Why do you think people reduce their age just to participate in the program?

The results would be the same either way. The vast majority of Nigerians want this institution to exist for a paycheck after graduating and to foster inter cultural relations.

This is a lie, Nigeria has 200 million people and they used a sample size of just 1000?

How do we even know the 1000 aren't NYSC employees or their family members?

This is why I don't trust most statistics coming out of the government.

Who's sweating, I just told you the facts? I'm not sending anyone and nobody is forced to participate in the scheme. I dont even care for it my self even if it's safe. Its waste of time and money. People should just raise there kids better and travel and experience Nigeria on your own dime.

Thank you o jare. That excuse of NYSC being a means of integrating Nigerians is bollocks! I wonder if Nigerians are naturally daft.

If anyone wants to discover Nigeria, let it be on his/her own terms (travel and experience Nigeria on your own dime)

Gowon introduced the NYSC scheme in the 70s - after the Civil war- as a means of fostering unity.

The threats to Nigeria's unity in 1973 are not the same threats to our unity in 2021. So after 40 years the govt still believes that the challenges to Nigeria's unity are still the same as they were in the 70s ***smh***

Forcing young men/women to travel and live in places they may not like, paying them a PITTANCE as a wage, exposing them to security threats as well as using them as ad hoc staff is something I just can't comprehend. It is so retrogressive to me.

The choice to go for NYSC should be optional. Making it mandatory is unconstitutional (because it negates your rights to freedom of movement/association . You are forcing people to do what they would not have done if given a choice.)

Gone are the military days when you could "force/coerce" people. And with the current security challenges, the need for the scheme is called into question.

Whatever thread that exists and still unites us is not the result of the benefits of NYSC.

Nonsense govt that is just interested in subjecting youths to danger and hardship ***spits***

No Nigerian youths would pray they should scrap NYSC, it's a dream while still in school. You want to graduate and wear the khaki and also let people know you've made it in life by wearing the khaki.

Only those on d verge of finishing their service year and those that have served will vote for d scrapping after it must have dawned on them that they are on d long thing to secure a job after d service...

They should keep wasting people time with useless thing. Some countries now their BSc is 3 years then 2 years for Masters making it 5 years but here in Nigeria u will see someone spending 7 years a course of 4 years due to strike and after spending those years the person will be force to spend another 1 year for NYSC.

You need the certificate to work in most places. Even more people decide to disappear after camp or get fake certificates because they don't want to do it.

Only people from privileged homes who are insensitive and spoiled would want the nysc scrapped.
The nysc sustains graduates after graduation, gives you a little working experience where one would be searching for a job, and some also have gotten permanent jobs when they are retained.

NYSC has actually affected more of our graduates negatively, normally final year students are supposed to make preparations to get jobs and make themselves employable in their finals, but due to this NYSC we see final year students being lazy and praying or running things for a good PPA instead of thinking of how to add value (cant really blame them, since it's the system). Funny enough, NYSC also encourages cheap labor. I think the program has overstayed its welcome.

A survey conducted amongst 1000 people is enough to determine what 150 million people are thinking?

I still remember the family members who died in 2011 after the dullard's supporters started slaughtering youth corpers because he didn't win the election that year.

Can you get the enjoyment in grave? And if you are looking at the 33k stipend; is something the govt can still pay if they want by giving the money for 1year after graduating without sending anyone to war. Lives and security matters first

That an exaggeration.. NYSC has helped a lot of youths with jobs which they retained after the service...more over..so ur saying that only those from Lagos be posted to Lagos and those from zamfara be posted to zamfara...excuse me but... What advantage does that bring to the table of insecurity.. How does it make them any safer..
After all many non indigenes in different states will still have to travel to their state.. So what d point.. Or u think the average youth will run his entire education and life in his state b4 service?

How many copers have been kidnapped since 2014 when all this extreme security started..
Security challenge isn't enough reason to scrap it..besides y not deal with the problem of insecurity rather than avoid ...it will still eventually hurt everybody in their respective state with or without nysc
vanbonattel:

Stop sweating, if there were any gains of NYSC since the past 40 years, buharri erased them all in 6 short years.

Students shouldn't be sent to war zones where they will be kidnapped in the north.

I feel Nysc should not be scrapped.

It has suitably evolved from just cultural integration to a work experience scheme for the youths of Nigeria.

Many got retained in their PPAs while many were able to get good jobs from the work experience they garnered during NYSC.

Also, many secondary students in the rural parts of the country have benefited from the knowledge of the corps members posted to their school. You would be surprised at the mediocre level of the teachers in these rural schools.

I'm still in close and frequent contact with the students I taught during my NYSC many years ago offering assistance when needed.

Aside from the security aspect which can be easily solved by blacklisting states with high security risks, I see no reason why it should be scapped.

Not to talk of the 33k wink

What if they don't blacklist states with high security risks?

I think it should be optional and more rewarding financially

30k is not the solution

Really?
So we have to wait till all Corp members are kidnapped?
Insecurity isn't enough reason? Then what else can be?
