Honestly op,I can't do such kind of jobs at this moments..... Personally,I don talk am say by latest January I go carry keke begin ride for this Warri... Imagine my immediate elder bro wey carry keke just on the 25th of last month, the nigga don make not less than 100k from that time till now..

All these mumu teaching work wey person take dey stress himself, yet at the end, Nothing to write home about, dem no follow again.......Very soon, once my keke don reach my hand, ennnnnnn,I go first breathe, then my bakery work go come resume fully again.
If we tell una say, those jobs you look down on pays better than white collar jobs.
I was in bus in PH when a driver and conductor where in a conversation.

Driver: after this turn I dey go park motor, I don tire today.

Conductor: how much wey we don work wey you want go rest?

Driver: 38k dey my hand, how much dey your hand.

Conductor: na 4k something dey my hand, we never work anything na. If you want rest go rest, give me key make I dey road passengers still plenty.

I can deduce that those guys makes and average of 40k in a day. Do the maths, how much do they make in a month.

Hi guys,
I trust this meets you well?
I am 25 years old, I'd soon be 26.
I'm a graduate, I served in Kano and stayed back after service doing a teaching job. I am paid 35, 000 naira per month. The 35k finishes on transportation and feeding even before the month ends.

I started learning a skill in tech about a year and half ago, I've gained some confidence already in web development, I can call my self a Front-End Developer now with some knowledge of back end development... I have made up my mind to keep learning everyday. I have a dream of going fully into tech and at this point in my life, I need a job that will offer me the opportunity to learn what I'm personally interested in. I want to work in a team that will help me to grow, not a teaching job where I am overworked and get home tired everyday and have little time to code.

After sitting and considering all these, I made up my mind to resign my teaching Job by the end of December. I'm going back to my hometown (a state in the North central) where I hope to go down to Abuja in search of a better life or better still if I get one in my state.

The thing is that I'd need to take this bold step now while I'm still a bachelor before I get married and unable to.

I understand that it is a hard decision to take, but if I let fear hold me down here, Many years will pass and I will be here held by fear. A colleague shared his story with me, that he was afraid of leaving and for him, it's 11 years now teaching and he is still struggling. He's married and it's now difficult to take any step as such.

I need advice, if possible share your experiences so that I will learn.

Thank you very much
take the bold step.if u fail,at least u will know u have tried. and u keep on trying.

Exactly my thoughts! Those encouraging him to resign Asap won't be there to lend him a listening ear when he's all broke and dry. It's better to quit when he's fully grounded in the tech skill and also with a financial back up of a duration of at least 3 months.
Calibrator:
You will never know how precious the "half bread is better than none" concept is till you are dead broke and you don't know where the money to eat your next meal is gonna come from.

The shame associated with being unable to pay your bills assuming you are living independently should also be factored in.

Don't leave a job in this present economy unless you already have a solid backup in tow.

A female teacher in my area is doing well Financially!
After school, she sells Snacks (buns, eggroll, puff-puff) and Black market Fuel/Diesel at Nights!
I believe she is doing better dan even Bankers!

In Nigeria, Everybody must get Sense, otherwise Poverty go use you shine! sad cheesy
Someone is talking of going into I.T , you are talking about someone else selling puff puff that has little knowledge about WhatsApp (talk more of I.T).

The fear of leaving your comfort zone and taking a bold step is the beginning of poverty, that is not even your comfort zone, that is a stress zone, cause you're working just to pay transport with your whole salary.

Guy with your present skill you can create employment for yourself, get a remote job, receive your salary in dollars.

If your mentality adapt to that teaching job, you're finish. You will start wearing those Mumu okrika teacher trouser, start dating a cleaner from another school, start eating mama put around the school, eating beans pie and coke.

Just take the bold step and watch how your life change in a year, make reach on trading also.
You think it is easy doing remote development work without skills and experience.

You can try get a job as a tech instructor. It's like a mixture of teaching and tech. I did this for a while and even got a full time tech job but couldn't resume coz I haven't completed my nysc. This would afford you time to learn and also teach what you've already known.

This is almost one of the numerous and surest ways of getting into tech.

Make sure you don't take up any other contemporary subject!! Just a tech instructor teaching web development and programming.

Op, where are you based presently?

I made a similar decision at ur age also, retained by my PPA on a salary of 25k. I kept telling myself, dat he bad as he bad, I fit get job of 25k anywhere I go. So I resigned to look for a greener pasture. D next 2years after that decision was hell for me, the most terrible times ever, so much rejections that made felt like a worthless been but after the 3rd year, I got a good job and now I'm doing way way way better than my colleagues that stayed behind. I will advise u to take the step but be prepared for a very difficult time that will eventually get better

Except you have alternate source of income, I suggest you transition gradually. Not easy thinking clearly while hungry.
Suggest you look for company where you could be groomed. If you are a Male, try looking for a job that gives you time.

Whatever you do, ensure you can survive till your new skill starts paying (if it does) your bills.

Hopefully you aren't picturing a rosy environment so soon. Prepare for the worst so you aren't caught unaware.

Good Luck

Re: I Want To Quit My Teaching Job: Advice Needed by evil1:
If everyone rejects teaching job, I bet you that you won't see someone to teach your kids or even teach you that programming skills you are learning via YouTube. Teaching someone programming is one of the hardest not to even mention blogging via a drag and drop builder.

Teaching isn't a bad thing, its just the pay and I tell you that even people who studied professional courses with the mindset that they would see a good paying job on completion, end up in the same dilemma.

For example, people see doctors as rich or persons that are well to do. My dear until you enter the real life practice then you will know as it is now in Nigeria and the world, its Survival we all are fighting for. Only people that work for government agencies and parastatals are sure of a stable income and secured job.

One of those reasons I look forward to building my own company from scratch and investing is the idea of working for someone and the day I out perform or even become unproductive I will be laid off at the slightest opportunity.

I'm not good at tech, but I have improved over the years at a snail speed. If not for my gf, I even forgot I had a personal skill.

Finally, Tech takes time and patience. You have to learn, unlearn, build and sell to the right market.

You are doing the right thing. Teaching In Private school is like helping the mourners to bury their dead
Resign and begin with what ever you got.
I resigned my appointment as vice principal last March this year. During the lock down, we were in hell. I saw that it's a waste of time to continue.
