I graduated with 2nd class upper division in Linguistics/ Literary Studies in 2016 and while waiting for service I linked up with a University Campus Radio to gain more experience and stay relevant in my field. I served in a state owned radio station and I was very active in the news department, I was also a program co-anchor, voice over artiste and a producer and I rounded off with service in 2018.
I came back to Enugu and knowing too well that there were no jobs anywhere, I decided to serve as intern in one of the biggest radio platforms in the whole of South East, here in Enugu. I learnt a lot and it got to the point that I would be left in the live studio to handle things especially during weekends and I did great, I was also co-hosting programs and I as well functioned as a voice over artiste, producer and studio manager whenever we had some notable guests in the studio especially during the weekend. I spent a whole year and they weren't paying me or giving me transport allowance, after a year and six months, I spoke with the then Head of Production and he assured me that I would be absorbed, meanwhile, things were really difficult for me, I wasn't getting paid but they were assigning tasks for me to do and I was spending 300 naira daily from Mondays to Saturdays, on Saturdays, am always expected to be in the studio before 6:am to produce the morning program and eventually go home at 7:30 to 8:pm and I never failed and whatever money that got into my hand, I used it for transport and so two years passed and the Head of Production rose to the position of the Acting Managing Director and I approached him again and explained things to him and he told me he was working on it and additional six months rolled by. I have participated in different modern mass media training and drilling in order to meet up with the present challenges in the broadcasting industry, am also a script writer, poet, literary and social critic. Towards the end of last year, there were these three new interns that came on board (two females and a male) and I was always trying to put them through things and they were learning gradually, so earlier this year I heard one of the interns mention that she would soon be made a junior staff and her official ID card is on the way and actually, three of them were absorbed and I left the station in anger and disappointment and it was recently that I found out that the parents of those three individuals were connected and close to the corridors of power, in fact, one of the girls dad was a former LG Chairman and now a commissioner.
I'm here in Enugu and I just don't know what else to do with my miserable self, I've as well done couple of things for the state owned media house and other private media houses, I can do a lot in the media and for the media firms, it's my calling and something am never tired of doing and I've gone for some top notch training in this field but it seems like am worthless and less a human. where do I go from here and how do I even start off again?

This is what happens when u don't define the nature of your engagement. You should hav asked the right questions right from the outset so as get things clearly. Questions like duration of internship,pay,promotion etc. Seems your demeanor was more or less that of a volunteer.

Not really, when I came in they actually needed someone with little experience that would be absorbed after getting familiar with their mode of operations (their house style) which I quite fitted in for because I've done lots of freestyle in production, presentation and other necessary areas.

Still points to the fact that the terms and conditions of engagement were not clearly spelt out from the beginning, otherwise there shouldn't be this kind of misunderstanding. You saw urself as an intern but they saw you as a volunteer seeking for experience. No thanks to the exploitative tendency of most Nigerian employers. You played into their hands as a willing tool and they used you without conscience. This is where the problem lies. Sorry there is nothing much you can do since there wasn't any concrete agreement. Move on and learn from your mistake.

Op. You are not worthless. Since you say you can do voice over and other things why not look for some online platform to offer these services as a freelancer while you await your biggest breakthrough. Don't give him something better is coming your way.

Even IT student collect weekly fee...perhaps the OP is being paid weekly stipend.
