Why doesnt Mauritus or Rwanda pain me? I telling your the truth you do not want to hear. Your country is dealing with serious structural and systemic issues that wont be easy to solve.
1) Income Inequality - the World Worst - by far.
2) Poor education - poorer than even Ghana!
3) Immigration - 10M illegal immigrants from mostly Zim that doesnt look likely to fix their mess.
All that is manifesting in xenophobias, riots and crime - and of course out migration of skilled labour -
if Ghana and SA have poor education... Have you asked yourself how poorer that of Kenya is, since SA and Ghana turn to come out with the best education systems to represent Sub Saharan Africa on the global stage in all things education?

Informal sector=poverty. Kenya also has big informal sector - but we are trying to formalize them - by growing them to become enterprise.

I dont know if you have improved - I have seen data that your private sector employs only 300k (2007 data) - while Kenya private sector is approaching 3m.

You need to grow your formal private sector.

You are not making sense here.
Since you started with the formalization *how is market naw*? How many Kenyans have you taken out of poverty? give us the stats.

Finish with your formalization, get results first then come and tell us those nonsense you typed up there.

Mind you, Kenya has more poorer people than Ghana so stop making Ghana your headache.

Mauritius is a tiny little island bru with little over a million citizens....granted they have done very well, but let's compare apples with apples.

Also according to the IMF our gdp nominal is now $415 bil divide that by 60.5 million then we get a gdp per capita of nearly $7000 while Kenya is still at $2200

Did I mention our economy is projected to out grow yours in 2021?

let me explain to you..

At the upper income poverty line of 5.50 dollars, the poverty rate increase to 90% for Kenya...
This means that only 5 million people in Kenya are at the comfortable middle class.

And we all know that those people are mostly foreigners to the 90th percentile.

To be diverse, your economy must create a trickle down effect.

Even if we use the middle income line of 3.20 dollars per day which is currently used in Ghana, the poverty rate is still as high as 70% for Kenya...

Which means only between 15 and 18 million Kenyans will find themselves in the shaky middle class.

grin I don't have a background in Economics maybe thats why am still lost.

16M paying taxes less than Uganda - 6B dollars?
We have made a conscious effort not to tax our businesses out of existence so that businesses can keep more of their profits which turn to have a greater trickle down effect than taxation will have...

Thanks to Prof Atta Mills, the tax expert, we know this.

Less Taxation is the principal reason why Ghanaians are better off than Kenyans and living greater quality of lives.

We have focus more on indirect taxes which is a fairer way to tax both the rich and poor base of their economic power to spend.

It mostly how much each gov spend on education. Countries that suceed spend a lot on education. Countries in West and Central Africa - spend very little - in their notorious low budget. Kenya for example use to out spend anyone in education in africa in 70s and 80s - that explain historical high quality of education - but now smaller serious countries invest a lot more.

unfortunately Ghana economy is not dependent on mineral export and neither is Ghana ..

Ghana is solely dependent on the service sector and this is why Ghana is not in trouble even when minerals are trading for less.

Too bad Kenya is an agrarian economy and highly dependent on it...
See how just corona has dealt a massive blow to your country..

Kenya uses to spend 25 percent of its gov budget on education - but now it's falling every year.

You're lucky the commodities rallied and your rand recovered. We would be talking about 250B dollars. Yes my shocking maths is telling me Kenya gdp per capita is growing very fast...while South Africa is struck...and I do not see any change that would make you escape middle income trap.

If you want to understand what's going on in your country - watch this video of South America - that is plagued by say middle class trap.

Literacy will not make you become developed country. That is just enough to make your a middle income country. To get the next level - then you need to start thinking of acing the PISAs and such assessment - meaning your kids are getting very high quality education - that imparts the neccesary skills for the next level - of high productivity.
