Good evening experts in the house,

I'd like to seek your advices, I am at the roofing stage of my building, I have bought most of the materials except woods and workmanship.

I decided to get quotations for burglary, front and back door as well as windows. (Mhen prices were kinda high especially the windows)

Now my question is, would it be advisable to divert the little fund I have now into the burglary and windows because I learnt the prices of these materials keeps going up almost on daily basis, or should I just roof the house.

Thank you.

NB: na Kobo Kobo project, save and use, save and use.

Good evening to all Esteemed engineers on this platform.. I have a quick question.. Does a building having chain lintel require a roof beam again?

SO CALLED CHAIN LINTEL is a waste of money.... why do people do it?

If it's without concrete facial 'parapet' you can live without the roof beam..... but next time, skip the chain lintel and do a roof beam...

Egun, it would have been ok but the windows in your post seemed quite elevated. I won't be able to see the outside surroundings at that window level. I want to have the luxury of viewing through a clear fixed glass windows, both at day and night without being noticed by passersby.

Got it.

Thanks.

In support.
Better to do roof beam.
Just ensure you cater for the load from inception. I.e. Your columns must have been there.

I know we've discussed this here before, but seeing it again today, kind of raises the question, can this really be substituted for iron, on a serious note somebody please tell me it's photoshopped, @n3xt and others, have you come across it's usage anywhere in construction.

Want to know if we can port....... Prices are not smiling

This is the way if you care for quality home theatre audio Available in the market is appalling the best audio system sold by Fuani house (primary dealer of LG) is a dated 5.2 system that was discontinued sometimes in 2015 by LG and does not even support 4k.

For home automation. I have it integrated with my solar energy management system. The system is set to prioritise the cheapest source of power available at any given time.

Solar if solar is not available then grid if grid is not available then battery if battery drops below a voltage set point then generator.

I also use sonof smart switch to turn off heavy duty appliances like freezers during heavy rain and cloudy. Days when solar is not sufficient.

The whole setup is self running without human intervention mostly DIYed using open source tools like home assistant and some python scripts.

For home entertainment. I have a 60 Terabyte storage system
16TB for an active Network Attached Storage configured in redundant array for fail over in case any one drive fails.

There is a 10Tb active backup of 16tb storage
And 30tb cold storage full of backed up content.

Movies are automatically downloaded by a torrent tracker and saved to the NAS. This means over 2k movies in 1080p and 4ƙ ( including most classics like all James Bond release, all Harry Potter , complete star wars, complete marvel cinematic)

Complete Season of Voltron classic (84)
Muppet babies
Super Ted
Courage The Cowardly dog etc

Internet is handled via fibre for now. However I would be moving to a new place which doesn't have finer so so am preparing a dual SIM cat6 external LTE router which would have MTN and Airtel in failover mode for Internet. The external LTE router comes built in with a 9Dbi gain antenna allowing it pick signals 14km away.
Is this real Omoooorrr!!! Lollll

Just thinking. Why is it that ordinary clay when baked, it turns into a beautiful ceramic plate we use for dinning but builders can't do the same directly on walls, instead they use tiles which is virtually the same process?

What I mean is simple, plaster the wall with white clay and then heat it to turn to ceramics.

Imagine the beauty if you could have whole sections of the walls as continuous glossy shiny ceramics. Do you think the heat required would be too much for the blocks behind to withstand? If that is the case, could the house be built with blocks made from clay instead of the conventional blocks?

Secondly, do you think the finished product would have expansion issues since it would cover a wider area?

Thirdly, do you think there is nothing to generate enough heat to achieve such in an unclosed environment?

This will lead to us to the option of bricks as wall partitioning. Bricks made from heated clay baked in ovens.

You would have to turn the building into one big furnace to fire the clay to the required temperature.
The ceramic tiles are coated and polished very smoothly.
I don't think cement blocks can withstand the temperature that would cure clay. Clays are among the materials that withstand very high temperature best. They are used in bakery oven, kilns and furnaces.
What you are asking isn't practical and feasible.

It can't.
It can never be substituted for wrought iron used in reinforced concrete.
Note:
We don't just use any iron for reinforcement in concrete. The name of the iron used is called wrought iron.
Why?
It has a high tensile stress: when acted upon, it does break at a go, it stretches instead (bends).
When that bamboo dries inside the concrete, it will turn to some thing like galvanised pipe.
If there's a reason for it to break, it will let go easily.
This is a topic 4 anoda day.

Well so many of the mud houses were built with bambo as support.....recently i was looking at a mud house which was built 1974 was later modernized; cement plastered late 90s.....it was just brought down..the bamboos were still intact ...
I am not saying it can act as replacement or substitute but bamboo been used for years....
Check out this video and many others on YouTube....they are using reinforced glass fiber rebar....
